Chapter 1518: Chapter 1518: Wouldn’t That Be Just Like a Living Dead
Until Stella Nelson shook her twice, Scarlett Yates seemed to come back to her senses, slowly lifting her head to meet Stella’s concerned gaze. She hesitated, then gently shook her head, "I’m fine."
The moment she spoke, her voice was unbelievably hoarse, as if she had a severe cold.
"You say you’re fine, but your voice is hoarse and you look terrible. Let me take you to the lounge to sit for a while."
Stella had already heard that Matthew Saxon was sent to the hospital.
However, she only knew that Matthew Saxon was in a coma when he was brought in; she wasn’t clear on the exact cause.
"No, I’ll wait here." Scarlett’s voice was soft, but her tone was resolute.
Stella knew her personality, so she didn’t try to persuade her further. She nodded and said, "Okay, I’ll wait with you. I’ll go get you a cup of hot water first. You’re so cold, have some hot water to warm up."
"You’re staying with me? Won’t it disrupt your work?"
Stella smiled, "It’s almost lunchtime; there’s nothing much to do right now."
After she said that, she got up to get a cup of boiling hot water, adding a bit of glucose to it.
"Drink some; with how you look, I’m truly worried you’ll faint at any moment." Stella sat down next to her, handing her the cup.
Scarlett didn’t even blink, as if she was lost in thought staring at something, not turning her head, rigidly extending her hand to take the cup, sipping it little by little.
"Scarlett, what’s going on?" Stella frowned slightly, looking at her worriedly, "What’s happened to Matthew Saxon?"
Given Scarlett’s current behavior, Stella felt that Matthew’s situation might be quite serious, not a typical coma.
"Stella, let me ask you a question." Scarlett slowly turned her head to look at her, silent for a few seconds, then softly asked, "If one day... I’m just giving an example, if one day you suddenly became paralyzed, would you still want to live?"
Stella was taken aback, feeling that her question was a bit abrupt and somewhat inexplicable.
Why bring up paralysis out of nowhere?
However, she still seriously thought for a moment before replying, "It depends on how severe the paralysis is."
Scarlett bit her lip, remained silent for a while longer, "Total paralysis. Except for above the head, every other part is immobile."
"Then what’s the point of living?" Stella said with a frown, without hesitation, "Wouldn’t that be like a living dead, needing help for everything? To be crude, what if you suddenly need to poop, and no one is around, and you can’t hold it? You’d end up soiling yourself. Living without dignity like that, it’s better to be dead."
After hearing her analogy, Scarlett’s expression changed.
Stella, upon finishing, suspiciously stared at her, her eyes shifting, questioning, "Scarlett, why are you asking me this?"
Just after asking, she seemed to have realized something, her face changing dramatically, and she jumped up, grabbing Scarlett’s hand, exclaiming in shock, "Could it be... could it be that Matthew...?"
The rest of her words were left unsaid.
But the thought that arose shocked Stella to the core, feeling it more absurd than a fantasy tale.
No way, how could Matthew Saxon be paralyzed? She must be mistaken.
After all, Scarlett had just told her something about Matthew yesterday, how could a healthy person suddenly become paralyzed in just one day?
