Chapter 1524: Chapter 1524: I Really Love Him

"Scarlett, if Matthew Saxon knew you were going to do this, he would never agree." Stella felt a bitter ache in her heart. Why is it that people who love each other are always torn apart for all kinds of reasons?

The two of them just want to live a good, simple life together—does it really have to be that hard?

She thought of herself and Hayes Simmons.

Hayes had once told her that he admitted he truly liked her, and he admitted he wanted to marry her, wanted to make her his wife.

But so what if he confessed his feelings to her? It still couldn’t change anything.

As the future heir of the Simmons Family, the person who could accompany him through his whole life would never be her, Stella Nelson.

With a voice filled with pain and sorrow, Hayes had told her: Stella, I like you, I really like you, but we can’t be together. I’m sorry, I’ll remember you for the rest of my life.

This life is still so very long, but after Hayes said that to her, Stella felt like her lifetime had more or less already come to an end.

He was her whole lifetime.

If he left, then her life would probably be nothing but an empty shell. She might still be breathing, but she’d be living like the walking dead.

She knew very clearly that she would never again be able to love another person the way she loved Hayes Simmons.

In this life, the only person Stella Nelson would ever love was him.

Scarlett Yates turned her head, her eyes dull and vacant as she stared at the end of the corridor.

There was actually nothing at the end of the corridor, just a cold, bare wall, yet her gaze seemed to pierce through it, looking at the world beyond.

She stared at that wall for a while, then suddenly curled her lips. In the blink of an eye, tears silently rolled down. She sniffed, her voice low and desolate: "Stella, I really love him."

Stella’s eyes grew red too; with a blink, tears spilled out of them as well.

She wrapped her arms around Scarlett Yates: "Scarlett, I understand, I really do."

She herself loved Hayes Simmons so deeply too.

Sorrow can be contagious.

Scarlett turned around and leaned into Stella’s shoulder. The two of them silently let strings of scalding hot tears fall.

The test results came out.

They’d already known in advance that Matthew Saxon had been poisoned, so when she saw the report, Scarlett Yates wasn’t all that surprised.

Hayes Simmons spoke a lot of technical jargon to her. She listened quietly, and when he finished, he looked at her with a gaze full of sympathy and reluctance: "Scarlett, unfortunately, Matthew, just like Uncle Saxon, has been poisoned. The toxin in his body isn’t the same as Uncle Saxon’s, but its nature is even worse."

"The virus will slowly invade his immune system, seep into his blood. This process will take about a month, and once the virus has completely breached his body’s defenses, he’ll very likely lose some of his motor functions in certain areas."

Hayes was actually putting it rather mildly. He was afraid that if he suddenly blurted out the word ’paralysis,’ it would be too much of a shock for Scarlett.

"You mean paralysis, don’t you."

Scarlett actually spoke the word in an eerily calm tone.

Hayes froze, staring at her in surprise: "You already knew?"

What startled him even more was how calm Scarlett’s expression was—so calm it was as if Matthew Saxon had only caught a common cold.

Scarlett nodded lightly: "Mm, I know."
