Chapter 127: Chapter 127 — The One Beyond the Seal

Chapter 127: The One Beyond the Seal

Deep within the Primordial Sealing Ruin, the ancient chamber was silent.

The old man sat in his chair, his wrinkled face hard to read.

Across from him stood Duanmu Cang and Gongsun Lie, both of whom had been listening to his explanation about the anomaly in this world.

For a while, nobody spoke.

Then the old man, Zhuge Tianyan, slowly raised his head and looked at the two men.

"I want to attempt the divination one more time."

Duanmu Cang frowned.

"Again?"

Gongsun Lie’s expression changed.

"You’ve already tried it countless times. Every attempt has cost you through backlash, and you nearly lost your life the last time. Why insist on doing it again?"

Zhuge Tianyan shook his head.

"I need to be certain."

He paused.

"We have waited for countless years. The seal is weakening, and the demons are preparing to return. If my suspicions are correct, the anomaly may be our only hope of surviving what comes next."

His gaze sharpened.

"Before the battle begins, I want to see what awaits us beyond the seal."

Duanmu Cang shook his head.

"At least wait until you have recovered further."

"There may not be enough time," Zhuge Tianyan replied.

Before either man could object again, he closed his eyes.

A faint spiritual fluctuation spread through the chamber.

The intricate formations covering the walls began to glow, and ancient symbols rose from the stone floor, forming a complicated pattern beneath his chair.

Duanmu Cang and Gongsun Lie stepped back as the divination formation came alive.

Zhuge Tianyan brought his hands together and formed a series of mysterious seals.

His spiritual consciousness spread outward, passing through layers of spatial restrictions and ancient formations.

He wasn’t trying to predict an ordinary event.

He wanted to look beyond the Primordial Sealing Ruin, toward the existence that had threatened their world since the Primordial Era.

The formation trembled.

Then Zhuge Tianyan’s consciousness finally broke through the veil.

He saw them.

Demons.

Countless demons filled an enormous expanse beyond the seal.

Their terrifying figures stretched across the darkness, a seemingly endless army.

Some had huge bodies covered in dark scales, while others had strange shapes that defied understanding.

Their auras were frightening.

Zhuge Tianyan’s expression changed.

"So many..."

He had known the coming battle would be difficult.

But seeing the demons’ numbers with his own eyes was something else entirely.

He wanted to see further.

Were the demons planning to attack as soon as they broke through the seal?

Was there something even more dangerous hidden among them?

His consciousness pushed deeper, and something looked back.

BOOM!

The formation shattered.

The symbols on the walls flickered and died, and Zhuge Tianyan spat blood across the floor.

His skin withered as though years were being stripped away.

"Zhuge Tianyan!"

Duanmu Cang and Gongsun Lie shouted together.

They rushed toward him.

Zhuge Tianyan’s body swayed, and he nearly fell from his chair.

Duanmu Cang caught him while Gongsun Lie hurriedly took several jade bottles from his storage ring.

"Take these!"

Gongsun Lie poured the pills into Zhuge Tianyan’s mouth.

Every pill was an Ancient Grade pill.

Duanmu Cang immediately took out several more and helped him swallow them.

Medicinal energy surged through Zhuge Tianyan’s body.

The death qi around him weakened slightly, but his dwindling life qi showed little sign of recovery.

The two men watched anxiously until his breathing finally steadied.

Zhuge Tianyan slowly opened his eyes.

"How are you feeling?" Duanmu Cang asked.

Zhuge Tianyan looked down at his trembling hands and let out a bitter laugh.

"I’m afraid I may no longer be able to help much when the battle begins."

Duanmu Cang’s face darkened.

"Don’t say that. Those pills should help you recover."

"They can steady me, but they can’t restore everything I’ve lost." Zhuge Tianyan shook his head. "My life qi is almost completely gone."

Gongsun Lie clenched his fists.

"Then we’ll find another way to restore it!"

Zhuge Tianyan said nothing.

The backlash had been far worse than he had expected.

Even with the Ancient Grade pills, he could feel his remaining vitality slipping away.

Duanmu Cang took a deep breath.

"What did you see?"

Gongsun Lie turned to him at once.

"Was it the demons? How many are there?"

"I couldn’t count them. There were simply too many."

Zhuge Tianyan’s face grew grave.

"Many of them have strength far beyond what ordinary cultivators could imagine. If they all descend upon our world, the consequences will be disastrous."

The two men stayed silent.

They had fought the demons in the Primordial Era.

They knew how terrifying those creatures could be.

Yet Zhuge Tianyan’s next words made their hearts sink.

"The demons were not the most frightening thing I saw."

Duanmu Cang’s eyes widened.

"What do you mean?"

"Just as I was about to probe further, I sensed something beyond them."

Zhuge Tianyan paused.

"Something far more terrifying than the demons we fought in the Primordial Era."

Gongsun Lie stared at him in disbelief.

"Are you certain?"

"I would rather be wrong."

Zhuge Tianyan lowered his gaze.

"I couldn’t glimpse its true form. The moment my consciousness drew near, the backlash struck. If I had continued, I might have died on the spot."

Duanmu Cang’s face paled.

The three of them had survived the Primordial Era.

They knew how much their world had sacrificed to seal the demons away.

If something even more terrifying lay beyond the seal, the coming battle might surpass anything they had faced.

Gongsun Lie gritted his teeth.

"Then what are we supposed to do? If even you can’t investigate, how can we prepare?"

Zhuge Tianyan slowly raised his head.

"There is still one possibility."

The two men looked at him.

"The anomaly."

His voice turned serious.

"I still can’t measure its strength. It has interfered with my calculations again and again, and I have never been able to see through it."

He paused.

"Perhaps it is the only existence able to change the outcome of this battle."

Duanmu Cang fell silent.

Gongsun Lie’s face stayed grim.

"And if the anomaly can’t help us?"

Zhuge Tianyan stared at the floor for a moment.

"If the anomaly can’t help us overcome this threat..."

His eyes darkened.

"...we may have no choice but to surrender to the demons."

Neither of them answered.

---

Far beyond the ancient chamber, on the other side of the Primordial Sealing Ruin, an entirely different scene was unfolding.

An endless expanse stretched beneath a dark sky.

Countless demonic figures stood across the land, their auras twisting together into a terrifying pressure that wrapped around the space.

At the center of this vast gathering stood an enormous palace.

Its dark walls rose into the sky, and strange patterns covered its surface.

A terrifying aura poured from within, keeping the surrounding demons at a respectful distance.

Deep inside the palace, a man sat on an enormous throne.

His eyes had been closed for an unknown length of time.

Suddenly, he opened them.

Immortal qi surged from his body, and it was nothing like the qi of any cultivator in the Mortal World.

The entire palace trembled as his aura spread outward, forcing countless demons to lower their heads.

The man slowly raised his gaze.

A cold light flashed through his eyes.

Someone had just tried to probe his existence.

The intrusion had been brief.

But he had sensed it clearly.

A faint, disdainful smile appeared on his face.

"Lowly human, you want to probe this Immortal?"
