Chapter 1612: Turned into a puppet?

Following the trail that the token led him on, Lin Fan’s group eventually arrived at one of the storage rooms of this main hall.

This was a room that they had passed previously and had actually ignored since they didn’t think that they would be able to enter it.

But now that they were in front of this room, it felt like there was something that had changed.

Or at the very least, it felt like there was something that had changed with Lin Fan’s ability to access this room. After all, Lin Fan could tell that this was the place that the token was leading him to.

As he stood there in front of the door, there was a strong feeling coming from deep inside of him that didn’t want to enter this room.

It was just that he couldn’t avoid this room just because he wanted to.

Since it was the token that had led him here, it was coming from the thing that was monitoring this place.

So in the end, Lin Fan had no choice but to reach out towards that room with the token in hand.

As soon as the token made contact with the door, what he expected to happen did happen. Though the speed at which the door suddenly flung itself open did catch him off guard.

He didn’t think that there would be this kind of reaction from the door, it was as if it was just trying to force him to enter with how enthusiastic this response was.

The more that things were like this, the stronger the bad feeling that came from inside of him was.

After the door opened, Lin Fan saw that this room didn’t seem to have much inside of it. There were only a few simple things that were here that made this place seem like a room that was made to hold records.

Only he didn’t believe that it was that simple.

After he opened the door, the sensation that came from the token didn’t stop. It was just that this time, it seemed to be guiding him towards something else.

From the sensation that came from the token, Lin Fan could feel that the pull of the token was leading him to the desk that was in this room. It was just that there wasn’t anything specific that was on the desk that the token might be leading him to.

It felt like it was just leading him to the desk itself.

Standing in front of the desk and looking over it a few times, Lin Fan couldn’t find anything that was special about this desk. Though he could still feel that sensation from the token that was telling him to approach it.

For a moment, he wanted to test what would happen if he were to go against the sensation of the token and move away from the desk. But he didn’t get the chance to do so as an answer came because he was hesitating.

"The pressure is increasing...It’s almost as if they aren’t planning on hiding themselves at all."

Though when he thought about it more carefully, Lin Fan realized that it wasn’t the case. Most people wouldn’t even know about the origin of the pressure, they wouldn’t be able to connect this pressure with the upper realm.

At most, they would think that it was something that came from the Dao Sect ruins themselves. They would think that it was because they had violated some kind of rule in the Dao Sect ruins, which was why they would want to fix that by following the pull of the token.

So if he were to hesitate any longer than this...

Whatever was controlling the pressure that fell onto him might realize that he knew the truth and that he was becoming resistant to the pressure that came from this source.

Once all of that was out in the open, there was no doubt that it would become even more dangerous for him.

There was no telling what kind of response had been programmed for someone that had already learned this much, but Lin Fan didn’t believe that it would be anything good.

Putting the token on the desk, Lin Fan saw that there was an interface that appeared.

This was something that he had seen before, but he had never actually seen anything that was this detailed. The only thing that he saw previously were just a few single line notifications related to what he was dealing with.

But this time, it seemed like a detailed panel had appeared that was displaying information about his token and his place in the Dao Sect ruins.

The most eye catching thing was how it showed the amount of authority that he had obtained.

This wasn’t something that Lin Fan had any information on previously, even though it was something that was being inscribed in his token. The only thing that he had to go on was a general feeling that came from the token itself.

Now there was a map that appeared in front of him that was just like the one that he had been using before. There were even marks that were on it, but there weren’t as many marks as the map that he had been using.

For the outer part of the Dao Sect, all of the marks were lit up.

When it came to the inner part of the Dao Sect, there were only a few marks that were lit up. However, it seemed like there were varying degrees of brightness for these marks.

"It should mean that I’ve only obtained a part of the authority for these places."

What made him certain of this was the mark that represented the cave with the illusion array.

This was only dimly lit, which showed that he had taken control of the array spirit alone. He hadn’t actually taken the full authority of the cave with the illusion array yet.

Still, this was at least a good visualization of how much he had collected.

At the same time, there was something else that was displayed on the display.

"Second level access."

Lin Fan didn’t really get what this meant at first, but then he figured out that this was most likely his current level of access in the Dao Sect ruins. Even so, that didn’t really mean anything to him since he had no idea which places in the Dao Sect ruins he could access with this.

"I’ll ask Old Duan later about this. He should know something."

Once all of the information had been displayed, it didn’t seem like there was anything else that he had to do. At the same time, Lin Fan could tell that the pull from the array had disappeared.

Only there was also this strange feeling that came from the token itself.

It was almost as if there was something unfamiliar that had been added to this token.

"For them to pull me here, there had to be something done to the token itself."

Only Lin Fan couldn’t figure out what they would want to do with his token.

After thinking about it for a bit, Lin Fan gathered his thoughts into a few main points.

The Dao Sect had been destroyed because they had learned information that they shouldn’t have learned.

After the Dao Sect had been destroyed, they made sure to destroy all of the facilities that could have been used to learn that forbidden knowledge. But at the same time, they had left behind this main hall to monitor those that came to search the Dao Sect ruins.

Perhaps the entire Dao Sect ruins had been left with this purpose, but the elders that were here didn’t seem to be under their control. So in the end, the elders were able to regain parts of their power and leave behind this inheritance.

There were many things that seemed to be missing with this, but Lin Fan was able to come to a conclusion in the end based on what he would do if he was from the upper realm.

"Turn anyone that comes here into a puppet. That way, we can control who will be able to enter this place in the future and make sure that no one knows more than they should know."

As he thought about this, Lin Fan felt that this was more and more likely to be true.

The thing that had entered the token was most likely in preparation for this.

He didn’t know what would happen as this continued, but he didn’t feel good about this.

In the first place, the token was supposed to give one the qualification to become the next sect master of the Dao Sect. A token like this really was considered the perfect bait for leading people into becoming a puppet.

Perhaps that was the reason why the owner of this token had even been allowed to escape to the magic continent. It was most likely why the owner of the token had also died and left the token to their descendants.

"Ha...There’s nothing that I can do about it right now." Lin Fan thought to himself with a sigh.

In the end, he really was just too weak to actually do anything to change the current situation.

"At least we can leave this place for now." Lin Fan said as he led Ye Qing Huan and Xiao Mu out of the main hall.

Once they were out of here, Lin Fan had quite a few questions for Old Duan and this time he wouldn’t let him play dead.
