Chapter 201: Chapter 137: The Strongest Genius of the Era, The Golden Clan’s Joint Challenge
This was because Basic Elemental Finger was, to a certain extent, the beam equivalent of attacks like Frost Slash and Flame Slash.
Of course, he had also incorporated a few elements that attacks like Frost Slash and Flame Slash lacked.
For example, a spiral!
This was an addition inspired by the effect of rifling on a bullet.
Although Fighting Qi wasn’t a bullet, it would still be affected by air resistance after being launched from his body, which would impact its accuracy.
Putting away the parchment, Roy got up and walked to the center of the square, where he began practicing Basic Elemental Finger.
Just as he expected, his practice with Basic Elemental Finger went incredibly smoothly, since he had long since mastered attacks like Frost Slash and Flame Slash.
He was indeed incapable of manipulating Fighting Qi and constructing a Magic Model at the same time.
However, manipulating his Fighting Qi and firing it from his finger as a spiraling beam posed no difficulty for him whatsoever.
After just two or three practice attempts, he successfully fired a laser-like, high-temperature beam from the index and middle fingers of his right hand.
This spiraling, high-temperature beam easily flew over 150 meters and struck the gray fog enveloping the square.
’It really works!’
A satisfied smile appeared on Roy’s face.
Just as he was about to switch his Fighting Qi’s attribute and fire a Fighting Qi Beam with a different effect, a proficiency message only he could see appeared in his vision.
[Flame Ray Skill Level +1]
[Flame Ray: Tier One (1/1000)]
’This...’
Looking at the proficiency message before him, Roy frowned slightly.
He wasn’t too surprised that the Skill Proficiency Panel would display the proficiency information.
But he hadn’t expected the Skill Proficiency Panel to name the high-temperature beam he had just fired "Flame Ray."
Furthermore, this also meant that, in the Skill Proficiency Panel’s judgment, beams of different attributes were considered different Secret Techniques, just like Flame Slash and Frost Slash.
’"Basic Elemental Finger" doesn’t sound that bad!’
Roy complained inwardly.
After his silent complaint, he changed his Fighting Qi’s attribute and fired an ice-blue beam imbued with Basic Frost Power.
[Frost Ray Skill Level +1]
[Frost Ray: Tier One (1/1000)]
’So that’s how it is!’
Roy sighed helplessly and changed his Fighting Qi’s attribute once more.
This time, he fired a pale cyan beam.
Unsurprisingly, the Skill Proficiency Panel displayed a message about his Tornado Beam Skill Level increasing.
He then fired an earthy-yellow beam containing Basic Earth Power, followed by an intertwined red and blue beam containing both Basic Frost Power and Basic Flame Power. In turn, messages for Earth-Splitting Beam and Ice Flame Beam appeared in his vision.
Judging by the proficiency information alone, the Skill Proficiency Panel recognized the Secret Techniques he had created.
But judging by the names of the Secret Techniques, the recognition wasn’t complete.
Otherwise, the names of these five Fighting Qi Beams wouldn’t follow the exact same pattern as attacks like Frost Slash and Flame Slash.
Although things weren’t going exactly as he had originally planned, Roy didn’t let it bother him too much.
He had already achieved his goal, after all.
He wasn’t currently lacking in long-range attack methods.
Secret Techniques like Dragon’s Battle Roar and Frost Slash, as well as Level Zero Spells like Scorching Beam and Elemental Missile, were all ranged attacks.
However, all of these methods had minor drawbacks.
Dragon’s Battle Roar was an area-of-effect attack, and it was extremely loud.
Attacks like Frost Slash and Flame Slash required a weapon.
And Level Zero Spells like Scorching Beam and Elemental Missile required a few seconds to construct their Magic Models.
In gaming terms, their wind-up time was too long.
More importantly, constructing a Magic Model produced strong Spiritual Power fluctuations that could easily be detected by Apprentices and Wizards.
But the newly developed Secret Techniques like Flame Ray and Frost Ray didn’t have these problems.
They required no weapon, could be released instantly, produced no obvious Spiritual Power fluctuations, and couldn’t be detected in advance.
They also had the advantages of long range, high accuracy, low consumption, and long duration.
Aside from the somewhat repetitive names and the fact that they currently only contained Basic Elemental Power, Roy had no complaints.
However, these weren’t major issues.
The Basic Elemental Power could be upgraded further.
As for the names...
...whether they were plain or amazing wouldn’t affect the techniques’ power.
For the next while, Roy practiced the Secret Techniques like Flame Ray and Frost Ray in Chaos Square.
He only ended his practice session after the Skill Level for all five Fighting Qi Beams reached 100 points.
After standing in the center of the square to calm his Fighting Qi, he returned to the desk in the Learning Area. He took the parchment he had written on earlier from the drawer, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it aside.
Then, he took out five new sheets of parchment and recorded Flame Ray, Frost Ray, Tornado Beam, and the others one by one.
After putting the five parchments into the drawer, he glanced at the gray fog beside him to check on the situation in his guest room.
Only after confirming that no one was in the room did he leave Chaos Square.
He rested on the sofa for a few minutes, then went to the window, climbed out, and left the guest room.
He was going to an appointment!
To be precise, he was going to fight the Chimera Knight.
The Chimera Knight, Mark Ridley, was one of the nine Golden Great Knights of the Sal Empire, ranked second in strength.
The previous morning, the Six Great Clans, excluding the Royal Family, had jointly sent him a letter of challenge.
The Chimera Knight would act as the representative for the six clans in a one-on-one duel against him at Sunset Cliff, outside Storm City.
If he won, the Six Great Clans would hand over their Breathing Technique Inheritance Maps, publicly announce the results of the duel, and admit that they were no match for him.
If he lost, he would have to publicly apologize to the Six Great Clans for his previous act of sending them a challenge.
Roy wasn’t at all surprised that the Six Great Clans had chosen the Chimera Knight as their representative.
Not knowing the full extent of his strength, having their strongest available champion, the Chimera Knight, act as their representative was the safest choice.
As for why they didn’t have the number-one-ranked Golden Great Knight represent them...
...the reason was simple: the number-one-ranked Ashen Knight was the Golden Great Knight of the Royal Family.
After climbing out the window and leaving the guest room, Roy burst forth with a Speed befitting a Golden Great Knight’s Level and swiftly departed from Evil Spirit Cat Manor.
The two sisters, Harvey and Selena, knew that the Six Great Clans had jointly sent a letter of challenge, but they didn’t know the specific time or place of Roy’s duel with the Chimera Knight.
However, even if they had known, they wouldn’t have gone to Sunset Cliff to watch.
This was a private duel, not open to the public.
Although the results would be made public, the duel itself would have no spectators.
