Chapter 574: Revival of the Night
Chapter 574: Chapter 226: Revival of the Night
KZZZT! KZZZT!
The face of McCarthy, the Master of True Slaughter, vanished from the storm clouds. The coalesced lightning suddenly scattered as if in an explosion. Hundreds, thousands of bolts tore through the dim sea, striking the once-again turbulent surface of the water.
RUMBLE—
The piercing clap of thunder and the crashing of waves kicked up by the lightning echoed for hundreds of miles.
As countless sparks of electricity flashed, the deep sea creatures hidden beneath the surface leaped into the air. The stimulation drove these deep sea abominations into a frenzied roar.
In the next second, the colossal waterspout began to spin rapidly again, devouring and sweeping up everything around it. It pulled up endless seawater and the creatures that had breached the surface, recreating the terrifying, apocalyptic scene from before.
Moments later, the rain began to pour.
“Clelia.”
Wei’en raised his head, letting the slightly salty rainwater wash over his cheeks and drip from his skeletal jaw into the sea below.
The image of Clelia still echoed in his mind: her figure being dragged through that deep, dark gate, shrouded in storm clouds, and that bewitching smile she left him with at the end…
Their first meeting in the Laos District—that enchanting figure, her bizarre abilities, her aura of slaughter.
The pursuit in the Dumitru District, which caused such a sensation and brought him both shock and a sense of threat.
Back then, he never would have believed he would become so deeply entangled with “Thousand Faces” Clelia.
But fate, it seemed, was a miraculous thing. Two people who should have never met were brought together by an equal contract, Era Relics, and some other mysterious influence…
And then… when he was at his lowest, she was the one by his side…
‘Right. Beyond her charm and disregard for life, she was mostly a mystery—a mystery like that of the Eternal Life Association, an organization with some hidden purpose.’
‘Calling her a villain was correct; she had indeed orchestrated many massacres.’
‘But her goal was to “let the world live forever”…’
‘Time flies. In the blink of an eye, it’s been over a month since I came to this world.’
‘But at the same time, it feels like it’s been so slow…’
“Clelia…”
Wei’en murmured, his voice echoing across the storm-wracked, cloud-covered sea, bizarrely overpowering all other sounds.
His voice seemed to carry an endless sorrow, provoking the deep sea creatures to breach the surface again and again, driving the abominations into a deeper frenzy, and filling the Grave Digger, still kneeling on the water, with despair.
As these memories surfaced time and again, the image of her being taken by the Master of True Slaughter grew ever clearer.
And with it, Wei’en’s appearance began to change—
The tentacle extending from his throat slowly grew longer, wrapping around his lower jaw again and again until it covered his entire face.
Then, four crimson eyes silently opened on the tentacle. One was as calm as still water, one was cold and deathly silent, and one was frenzied and filled with killing intent.
The last eye was filled entirely with the image of Clelia, like a portrait permanently etched into the depths of its pupil.
At the same time, his body began to writhe. Bulging muscles twisted and broke through his skin, forming barbed tentacles that danced slowly around him, joining the one on his head to completely encase his body.
“Clelia…”
At the fanged tips of the tentacles, sharp teeth scraped and collided, unnaturally forming her name.
“Tina…”
The white-haired girl stood by his side, shrouded in a layer of dark evil. An aura of misfortune and ill omen spread from her, yet bizarrely, it avoided the area around Wei’en.
Just then, the clown doll detached itself from her hand. Its fuzzy palm covered her mouth, stopping her from speaking.
“Hee hee… At a time like this, staying quiet is the best way to show you care…”
Tina didn’t struggle. Her vacant eyes gradually brightened, reflecting the image of Wei’en, who now resembled a terrifying abomination. A trace of bitterness slowly washed through her heart.
‘Is this… sorrow?’
‘Like the feeling that surged in my heart after being deceived by “Father” Ales Kilibali?’
‘Or… does he want to go home, too?’
“Clown, help him.”
Tina stepped forward to Wei’en’s side. Just as she had in Caster City State, she reached out her small, pale hand and held his tightly, waiting quietly for him to calm down.
Upon hearing her words, the clown doll’s mouth split into a grin. Its small, doll-like form then split open, and a tall, slender figure emerged from within.
The clown—no, it was Mr. Arnold Lilith Leonard, dressed in a neat formal suit. One white-gloved hand covered his large red nose, also hiding his crimson lips, which were stretched in a grin that reached his ears.
Arnold bowed. “As you wish, Little White Fur.”
As his voice fell, he, holding the empty doll skin, instantly appeared beside the Grave Digger not far away, chuckling gleefully.
“Scum, how do you want to die?”
“You…”
Agostinho sensed his presence. The eyes beneath his cloth wrappings could only ‘see’ a deep, dark shadow, like a piece of the night itself. The aura felt somewhat familiar, yet he couldn’t believe it.
‘Night?’
‘The pure source of Night?’
“The source of Night? In this world, how could the source of Night possibly appear again?”
The mouths on Grave Digger Agostinho’s chest gaped open, revealing withered, hollow organs within. Rivulets of blood-tinged ash flowed through them, sustaining his physical shell.
He staggered back a few steps, the tombstone in his hands clattering as he stumbled. He cried out in panic, “Weren’t they all sealed away in ‘Truth’?!”
