’They’re on completely different levels...’

"Dean, I have another question."

"Hmm?"

"The people from Research Institute No. 66 aren’t here this time. Their project on ’The Fusion and Modification of the Undead and Machinery’..."

Dean Josue felt his throat tighten, his voice laced with annoyance. "Is that your question? Even if that project yields results, it could never compare to the other report. I have to wonder what your motive is for bringing this up."

"Your Excellency, I am merely concerned about Director Wei’en, who just joined our Research Center." The Great Mage chuckled softly. "It’s been so long, and he hasn’t even shown his face. One has to wonder..."

"That is not your concern!"

"I..."

"Scotty, the director is highly talented and very young. He just joined the Research Center; it’s not even certain if the project has begun. Your demands are putting the Dean in a difficult position, don’t you see?"

"Indeed, Great Mage Scotty. You’re in the wrong here."

"Yes, yes, of course..."

CLACK! CLACK!

Josue watched the dozens of Great Mages before him, their every word a jab at Wei’en, and he almost laughed in exasperation.

"You people..."

Just then, a Skeleton Warrior, its entire body encased in heavy armor, walked in.

CLACK! CLACK! (Master, you have a visitor.)

"Hmm?"

CLACK! CLACK! (It’s Lady Teresa from Research Institute No. 66.)

"Let her in."

A moment later, Teresa entered, bursting with excitement and carrying a thick research report.

"Dean! Our institute has achieved preliminary results! You..."

As she pushed the door open, she saw the office packed with Wizards. Her face flushed slightly. "My apologies, Directors."

"Not at all," said the Great Mage named Scotty, looking Teresa up and down. "You’re from Research Institute No. 66?"

"Yes, Director Scotty."

Teresa moved past the Wizards and placed the report she was holding on Josue’s desk. She glanced back at the crowd in confusion, wondering what all these institute directors were doing here.

"You said you have results?"

Josue stared at the research report on his desk, finding it all a bit surreal.

’It’s only been a month since Wei’en established Research Institute No. 66. How could they have results this quickly?’

"Are you certain?"

A smile returned to Teresa’s face. "Yes, Dean. Just this morning, our director completed a phase of the experiment. And not only that, there’s also..."

She trailed off, pausing to glance over her shoulder at the assembled crowd. She hesitated. "It’s not... appropriate for them to hear this."

"Oh, right."

Josue waved a dismissive hand. "You may all go back for now. I will summon you again after the Shadow School’s delegation has left."

The Great Mages exchanged glances, and then all eyes fell upon Great Mage Scotty.

"You all..."

Scotty knew what they were thinking: they wanted to stay and hear about Research Institute No. 66’s results.

As it happened, he wanted to know too.

’A project report with preliminary results in just one month... This is a first!’

"Uh, Dean... I was wondering if we might be allowed to listen in?"

"You..."

"Dean Josue, we’d like to hear it, too."

"Yes! You yourself said that Wizard Wei’en Loft is an exceptionally talented researcher, proficient in runology, and the fastest-promoted Wizard in the history of our school. So..."

Josue ground his pearly white teeth. GRIND. GRIND. He knew exactly what these people were thinking.

’Then again... perhaps it is time I showed these Great Mages what a true genius Wizard looks like!’
