Chapter 484: Chapter 484: They Shouldn’t Have Dirtied Shen Ningning’s Eyes

The night was deep and still.

Shen Ningning and Grandma Qin were sound asleep.

The grandmother and granddaughter’s cottage was surrounded by wolves, both inside and out.

There was hardly any room left to lie down.

The Black Wolf King, as the leader, had taken it upon himself to lie down just outside the courtyard, near the entrance.

Suddenly, a faint scream, carried on the wind, drifted from the mountains.

The Black Wolf King’s eyes, which had been feigning sleep, snapped open.

He pushed himself up and sniffed carefully in the direction of Wolf Mountain.

’The scent of blood.’

Wolf Three and Lang Si, the two brothers, were on patrol tonight.

As they came around from behind the house, they saw the Black Wolf King had gotten to his feet.

"Wolf Father?" Wolf Three asked, puzzled by his solemn expression. "What’s wrong?"

The Black Wolf King, unaccustomed to human speech, let out a low growl from deep in his throat.

He said someone was on a killing spree in the mountains; the smell of blood was thick.

One after another, all the wolves in the pack opened their eyes.

They milled around the courtyard, looking toward the mountains.

Wolf Three was unconcerned. "Maybe that rotten kid is just getting a beating. Why should we care if he lives or dies?"

’Besides, didn’t Wolf Father say that brat is always bothering our Jiaojiao, our Xiao Ningning?’

’Why should we bother with him?’

The Black Wolf King let out an angry howl.

’That’s a separate matter.’

’We may dislike him, but what if he really dies? Ningning will be heartbroken.’

His howl was so loud it woke Shen Ningning, who opened her drowsy eyes.

She sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Langlang, what are you all arguing about?"

The young girl dressed and stepped outside, only to see the entire wolf pack on high alert.

The Black Wolf King came forward and told her there were screams in the mountains.

Shen Ningning’s expression changed. "Could something have happened to Big Brother?!"

She quickly vaulted onto the Black Wolf King’s back.

In an instant, the Black Wolf King shot off like a gust of wind.

The pack instinctively split, with half staying behind to guard Grandma Qin and the other half following the Black Wolf King.

But as they passed the old village chief’s house, Shen Ningning caught sight of someone skulking outside the courtyard.

"Who’s there!" The girl signaled the Black Wolf King to stop and shouted sharply.

The suspicious figure’s back trembled, and something fell from their hand with a CLATTER.

Shen Ningning looked closely—it was a flint!

When the person turned around, she saw their face clearly in the moonlight.

"Wang Qiao’er, it’s you again! What are you trying to do?!"

Shen Ningning’s shout woke the surrounding villagers.

The Black Wolf King, smelling lamp oil, threw back his head and howled, rousing the entire population of Xiangyun Village.

Wang Qiao’er’s face went pale with fright. She turned and tried to run.

Lang Si was faster. He leaped forward, his massive body pinning her firmly under his paw.

His claws were sharp, instantly tearing through Wang Qiao’er’s clothes and drawing blood.

She screamed, "Help! The wolf is eating me!"

The old village chief, throwing on some clothes, hurried over.

"What’s going on?!"

"Grandpa Village Chief, I came out in the middle of the night and found Wang Qiao’er with a flint, skulking outside your house!"

After Shen Ningning finished speaking, Uncle Deng picked up the flint from the ground.

He stared at Wang Qiao’er, a mixture of shock and fury on his face. "I knew you were up to no good! You were actually planning to burn my whole family to death while we slept! And after we were kind enough to take you in."

Pinned under the wolf’s paw, Wang Qiao’er was in no position to explain.

She burst into terrified sobs.

"Princess Funing, please let me go! Let me go! I’ll never do it again!"

Shen Ningning had no time for her. She just said, "It seems like someone broke into Wolf Mountain. I have to go check. Grandpa Village Chief, you can deal with Wang Qiao’er yourselves."

With that, she rode the Black Wolf King and hurried back into the mountains.

Just as she entered the residence’s gate, she heard the sounds of someone screaming and begging for mercy.

"Big bro, sir, your majesty... We really didn’t know this was your house! We won’t steal again, we swear! It was Wang Qiao’er who put us up to this!"

It was an unfamiliar voice.

Immediately after, the sound of breaking bones, followed by a scream, reached Shen Ningning’s ears.

Her little face paled. ’It can’t be... Is Big Brother hurt?!’

Shen Ningning hastily pushed the door open and went inside.

However, the scene before her made her freeze.

The courtyard was stained with blood. Several men in unfamiliar clothes lay on the ground, covered in it.

Their arms and legs were bent at odd angles.

When Shen Ningning entered, Mo Lingwei was dragging a man by the ankle.

It looked like he was planning to drag him further away to kill him, otherwise he might get the nearby Lotus Pond dirty.

Hearing the door open, Mo Lingwei glanced back. In the moonlight, his deep eyes held a faint red glow.

After looking at Shen Ningning for a moment, the cold, murderous intent in Mo Lingwei’s eyes gradually dissipated.

"Shen Ningning?"

He subconsciously glanced at the bandits he had injured or killed around them.

His tone was somewhat nonchalant, which made him seem even more innocent.

"I couldn’t help it. I made a mess of your home."

Shen Ningning breathed a sigh of relief. "As long as you’re okay, Big Brother."

Just then, someone grabbed Shen Ningning’s pant leg.

The girl jumped in fright.

Looking down, she saw it was one of the bandits, not quite dead yet.

"Save me... he’s a madman... help me call the authorities..." he begged with all his remaining strength.

Before Shen Ningning could speak, the Black Wolf King shot out from behind her.

The bandit, seeing such a massive, pitch-black wolf appear right before him, let out a terrified scream and died of fright.

Mo Lingwei, standing not far away, frowned slightly.

"I shouldn’t have let them die in front of you."

He said this as he resumed dragging the man in his hand. "I’ll take him to the back of the mountain and finish this cleanly."

Seeing that the bandit he was holding seemed to be alive, Shen Ningning quickly stopped him.

"Big Brother, spare him! I just heard them say Wang Qiao’er put them up to it. We need him alive as a witness!"

Mo Lingwei’s sharp brows raised, and he obediently let go. "Alright. As you say."

He walked toward Shen Ningning, his eyes still red.

The Crown Prince, who had just been on a killing spree, now stood with his head lowered before Shen Ningning.

"My head was hurting when I found them stealing. I got angry and... acted. I promised you I wouldn’t kill indiscriminately, that I’d try to control myself. But they were bad guys, so this doesn’t count as disobeying you, right?"

Shen Ningning looked at him and chuckled. "No, it doesn’t count."

Under the moonlight, Mo Lingwei’s dark, cold expression relaxed, and a faint smile touched his thin lips.

Only a faint tinge of red remained in his eyes.

Shen Ningning took out a handkerchief, dipped it in some Spiritual Spring Water, and beckoned for him to lower his head a little more.

Mo Lingwei did as he was told.

The young girl gently wiped the blood from his handsome, pale cheeks, and the few specks that had spattered onto his sharp brows.

"If only I had stayed today, you wouldn’t have had to fight these men, Big Brother."

Mo Lingwei felt a faint sense of pleasure rise from the depths of his cool eyes as he experienced the girl’s meticulous care.

He thought for a moment, then said, "It’s a good thing you didn’t stay."

Shen Ningning blinked.

Mo Lingwei’s tone was light. "If they had hurt you, I wouldn’t have left a single one alive."

After Shen Ningning had the wolves take the surviving bandit to Xiangyun Village, Uncle Liu recognized him immediately.

"It’s those two! They were the ones snooping around the village entrance the other day, pretending to look for someone but actually casing the place!"

With this, no matter how Wang Qiao’er tried to argue, it was useless.

She was the one who had led the bandits there.
