Chapter 492: Let’s Test It With Your Blood
Chapter 492: Chapter 492: Let’s Test It With Your Blood
Mr. Xiu Mu took a letter from his sleeve and handed it to Xie Suzhi and the others to read.
Xie Suzhi glanced at it, his expression growing somber. He then passed it to Shen Ningning and Mo Lingwei.
The young woman saw that the characters in the letter were actually written in the script of Cangyun Country.
But the handwriting... it was completely unfamiliar. Neither of them could recognize who might have written it.
Mo Lingwei lifted his cold, dark eyes. "This is not something we can help with."
’Find a daughter? Who knows if it’s even true?’
’There’s no telling what kind of trap lies behind this.’
Mo Lingwei had a gut feeling that they were targeting Shen Ningning.
Mr. Xiu Mu chuckled. "Crown Prince, please don’t be so quick to refuse. Our Great Sun King only wishes to find the Tenth Princess and has absolutely no other motives."
Mo Lingwei leaned back in his chair, his posture assertive.
"This is not up for discussion. If I say we can’t help, we can’t help. Ask for something else. Otherwise, I will return the rest of the Heaven Suppressing Pearl to you, and I will not require your help."
Tuo Ye couldn’t hold back and blurted out angrily, "It’s already been ground into powder! Even if you give it back, it’s useless to us now."
"How is it useless? Can the remaining powder not be used as medicine?" Mo Lingwei raised an eyebrow, an oppressive aura radiating from him.
Just as Tuo Ye was about to speak, Mr. Xiu Mu pressed his hand down under the table.
So, he swallowed his anger.
Shen Ningning held her teacup in her delicate hands, discreetly sizing up Tuo Ye.
’This guard... why does he seem even more hot-headed than Ambassador Xiu Mu himself?’
Mr. Xiu Mu still wore a smile, his words laced with a hint of sincerity.
"Crown Prince, I can understand your concerns. We have come to you in good faith. Otherwise, we would not have brought out our nation’s most treasured artifact."
"You must understand, in our Changliu Country, there are only three Heaven Suppressing Pearls left in the Blood Pool. We gave one directly to you, which shows our sincerity."
Mo Lingwei pressed his thin lips together and said nothing.
Mr. Xiu Mu could also see that he was the most difficult one to persuade, with a temper as hard as stone.
So, he turned to Xie Suzhi. "Prime Minister, what are your thoughts?"
Xie Suzhi, ever mature and steady, spoke slowly. "I share the Crown Prince’s sentiments. I feel this is somewhat inappropriate."
"Did the Great Sun King never doubt the authenticity of this letter? If someone sent it with the intent to stir up trouble, and he so rashly sent envoys... if we fail to reach an agreement, wouldn’t our two nations be at odds once again?"
Mr. Xiu Mu smiled faintly and nodded slowly. "The Prime Minister has a point."
"However, the feeling of missing one’s daughter... I believe that is something you, Prime Minister, can relate to, can’t you?"
A single sentence plunged Xie Suzhi into silence.
"This is not just a simple letter. In a father’s eyes, this is a clue to his daughter’s whereabouts. Our Great Sun King has few daughters, and he feels deeply indebted to the Tenth Princess."
"Allow me to ask you, Prime Minister, back when you had not yet found Princess Funing, were you not just as desperate for any news of your daughter?"
Mr. Xiu Mu was perceptive of human nature. With just a few words, he had struck a chord deep in Xie Suzhi’s heart.
Before he was reunited with Shen Ningning, he would set off immediately at the slightest news of his daughter’s whereabouts.
Even if she were at the ends of the earth, as long as he heard his daughter might be there, he would go without a second thought.
Seeing her own father fall silent, Shen Ningning spoke up. "I will take charge. I agree to this matter. I can help you search."
Mo Lingwei looked at her, his eyes narrowing slightly. He seemed to want to say something but held back.
He did not approve of helping these Changliu people, but if Shen Ningning had made up her mind, he would go along with her.
Mr. Xiu Mu beamed. "The princess is truly kind-hearted."
Shen Ningning’s dark, round eyes gazed at him and Tuo Ye.
"Ambassador Xiu Mu, don’t celebrate too soon. I’ve only agreed to help you. I can’t give you any guarantee as to when she will be found."
Mr. Xiu Mu’s eyes darkened for a moment, but in the next second, he was smiling and nodding again. "You are right. How could we possibly find someone so quickly? No matter. I will wait in the city for a few days."
"It could be a few days, or it could be a month, a year, or three years," Shen Ningning said, her voice clear as her pink lips moved.
Hearing this, Tuo Ye shot upright. "It could take that long?!"
Mo Lingwei shot him a cold, sharp glare, and Mr. Xiu Mu quickly pushed Tuo Ye back down.
Shen Ningning’s voice was unhurried. "Of course it will take time. Did you think finding a person is simple? You haven’t provided any distinguishing features. Trying to find the Tenth Princess based on her age alone is no different from finding a needle in a haystack."
"Besides, when I was lost, it took my father five or six years just to find out where I was."
Tuo Ye, knowing he was in the wrong, sat back down on the cattail cushion, annoyed but unable to retort.
Mr. Xiu Mu chuckled, smoothing things over. "The princess speaks the absolute truth. But as it happens, we have brought a piece of raw jade. With this item, we will be able to find our Tenth Princess."
As he spoke, he carefully took out a brocade box from his sleeve. From within, he reverently lifted a Chi Dragon Jade Ring. It was a yellowish-white color, but dark, dried blood was hidden within the grooves of the chi dragon’s carving.
Over the years, the blood had turned black, making the object look quite ancient.
"And what is this?" Mo Lingwei frowned.
Mr. Xiu Mu explained, "This is one of Changliu’s greatest treasures, the Heart Transmission Jade. It has been passed down since the generation of our founding Emperor and has a history of nearly four hundred years."
"It circulates only within the Imperial Family. After every royal scion is born, a drop of their blood is dripped onto it. The magical part is that if the person is a member of our own Imperial Family, the blood will merge into the Jade. If not, the blood will simply slide off."
Shen Ningning was surprised. "There’s such a magical jade?"
Mr. Xiu Mu nodded. "We just need to let blood flow onto it and see whose blood merges with the Jade. I believe this will lead us to the Tenth Princess."
Just then, Mo Lingwei suddenly stood up.
"Let me try."
As he spoke, he drew the sword from the waist of a nearby guard.
A cold light flashed.
Xie Suzhi was worried. "Your Highness!"
’What if this thing is poisoned?’
But Mo Lingwei was completely unconcerned. ’My body is already in this state. Could it get any worse?’
He strode over and snatched the Jade Ring from Mr. Xiu Mu’s hands.
Mr. Xiu Mu was stunned.
’What is this Crown Prince up to now?’
Suddenly, Mo Lingwei leveled the sword, pointing it directly at Mr. Xiu Mu.
Tuo Ye immediately shot to his feet, his voice rough. "What do you think you’re doing?!"
Mo Lingwei gave him a sidelong glance. "Just testing the sword. What are you so afraid of?"
The cold and stern Crown Prince was dressed in a Five-clawed Golden Dragon Red Robe, the coiled dragon on his chest looking fierce and menacing. Standing so close, Mr. Xiu Mu felt a profound killing intent radiating from his aura.
’How could a Crown Prince who has never been on a battlefield possess such an aura?’
"Mr. Xiu Mu is the ambassador sent by Changliu Country! If you harm an ambassador, it’s tantamount to declaring war, and..."
Tuo Ye said angrily, but he couldn’t even finish his sentence.
Mo Lingwei suddenly grabbed Tuo Ye’s wrist. With a flick of the blade, before Tuo Ye could react, he had cut his finger.
"AH!" Tuo Ye cried out in pain, his brow furrowing instantly.
He tried to pull his hand back, but it was too late. Mo Lingwei had already squeezed a drop of his blood onto the Jade Ring.
Mr. Xiu Mu’s expression changed as well.
Mo Lingwei’s voice was languid, his brow dark. "You wouldn’t let me harm him, so I’ll just use your blood for the test."
