Chapter 318: Shit Happens, Leon

Grunting, he sat up and looked around. The golden cat suddenly walked toward him, staring at him curiously with its large eyes.

Leon patted its head and stood up.

"Selene?"

He called, expecting a response. However, there was none. Frowning, he took out his spear and stepped out of the room.

Arriving in the living room, he saw a bonfire with meat being grilled on it. However, Selene was nowhere to be found.

"Tsk. Isn’t she being irresponsible? What if the meat gets burnt?"

Giving it one last glance, he went outside the house to find her, becoming irresponsible himself.

Unwilling to go search around with his own two eyes, he switched to Shadow Sense. It didn’t take him long to find her.

"What is she doing on the wall?"

Stepping into the shadow of a house, he appeared beside her on the wall, startling the young lady.

She turned to him and hissed. "Can you give me some warning before randomly popping up like that?"

Leon shook his head and looked outside the city. The sight made him frown.

"What’s happening?"

Selene shrugged. "I’m not sure. But I think one of the parasites there wasn’t killed, and it’s trying to fuse with the others. Do you think we should kill it now?"

Leon’s eyes narrowed with a thoughtful expression on his face. "No."

"No?" Selene blinked. "You know it’s coming after us once it completes its fusion, right?"

"That’s only if we’re still here," He added. "Leave it for now. It would be useful later."

Selene frowned, still uneasy. She glanced back at the squirming mass of flesh, remembering the monstrosity on Staten Island.

"Then we should leave this place very quickly."

Leon nodded. "Not before breakfast, at least."

He stood up and jumped off the wall, with Selene following behind as she flew down while riding an ice board.

He watched her land, then remarked, "Immortal Ice Fairy Selene, huh?"

She stared at him in confusion, not familiar with the context. Ignoring her confused look, Leon headed back to the house they were staying.

"By the way, thanks for changing my clothes," He said casually.

Selene froze briefly, then nodded. "Yeah. You look less revolting now."

Ignoring the jab, he made a face when he caught the smell of burnt meat.

’Fahhhhhh!’

Selene’s eyes widened, and she rushed inside. The meat she was grilling was completely burned. Her lips twitched, and she shot a glare at Leon.

"You saw it. Why didn’t you put out the fire?"

The young man shrugged. "I saw it. But I didn’t realize it was going to burn so soon. My bad."

"Tch."

She snorted and waved her hand. The entire bonfire and the meat were immediately frozen before shattering to pieces.

Leon smiled and took out a plate of mutated chicken meat from his storage ring.

"You can still have this."

Selene stared at the plate, her stomach churning. "I think I’ve grown tired of meat in general. I miss vegetables."

"Well, we could go to a Vaelari restaurant or something, y’know?" Leon remarked sarcastically.

Grunting, Selene snatched the plate from him and sat down to eat. Leon chuckled and took out a plate for himself too.

Sitting opposite her, he began to eat. Before long, the golden cat approached him with a gaze that demanded its share.

The young man complied and gave it a full plate, still wondering what kind of beast the cat was. Especially considering its ability to calm someone’s mind.

It felt a little strange to him.

Shaking his head, he focused on his meal and ignored the cat.

"Are you still headed to the Dome?" Selene suddenly asked.

Leon met her gaze and nodded. "I have a feeling that’s where it is. Besides, they’re the only ones I can ask about its whereabouts."

"What is that?" She asked, needing clarification.

Leon paused, then answered quietly. "The heart... of this world."

Selene blinked, her eyes widening slowly. "The... heart? Why would you need the heart? And how do worlds have hearts?"

He shrugged, chewing on a drumstick. "I don’t know. My requirement is to obtain the heart. Not use it for something. Maybe I just need to hold it for a few seconds."

Selene’s gaze dropped to the ground as she thought about it. Several thoughts flashed in her mind, and she couldn’t help but frown.

"We’ll have to infiltrate the Dome without being discovered, blindly search for the heart or information about it without being discovered, and obtain it without being discovered."

"Easy peasy." Leon smacked his lips. "Trust me, it’ll be fun."

"Yeah, right. Seeing you injured is very fun," She said, laughing lightly.

Leon shot her a look, then nodded. "It’s fun as long as we don’t die."

Selene’s smile vanished. She set down her plate and sighed.

"Once again, I’m starting to regret following you."

Chuckling, Leon shook his head. "Look at the bright side. You quickly became Tier Two, got a new armor, a cat, and a weapon that makes you go mad. That’s like four benefits. You really shouldn’t be complaining, woman."

"Getting to Tier Two just to face more than one Tier Three? I’ll pass," She countered, rolling her eyes.

Leon pursed his lips but didn’t bother arguing further. He simply continued to eat in silence. Selene and the cat did the same, focusing on their meal.

While they had breakfast, an abomination was forming outside the city, slowly evolving from Tier Two to Tier Three in the process. As for whether it could evolve further, that remained unknown.

An hour later, the two humans and the cat sneaked away from the city, avoiding the abomination and continuing their journey toward the Dome.

"I miss that unicorn," Leon complained as they walked under the sun. "It was a pretty good mount."

Selene agreed with him. "It was fast too. Sadly, it died in that ambush."

Leon went silent at the mention of that, and Selene noticed.

She glanced at him and asked, "Do you feel stupid for trusting Merlin’s parents? I do."

Contrary to what she expected, Leon shook his head. "I don’t feel stupid. Just... surprised and disappointed."

Her gaze lingered on him for a few seconds before she looked away.

"Well, shit happens."

"Language, Selene. You’re ruining your image."

Bantering, the two humans and the cat walked together towards their destination.
