World Evolution: Starting With The Wind Monarch
Chapter 110: Completing Task (Part 1)
A few minutes before Evan shot the bolt...
Inside one of the buildings of the Chaos Alliance base, seven people sat with serious expressions.
All seven of them were also Rank One Evolvers, like the three Dark Elves who went out to meet Alice and the others.
In this small base, there were a total of ten Rank One Evolvers and over forty unranked Evolvers.
"It’s good we got news about those elite students coming here and deployed the barrier. If they had caught us off guard, we would have been in trouble." One of the Dark Elves sitting at the side spoke in a low voice.
"Are you sure that barrier can stop them until our reinforcements arrive and we evacuate from here?" Another Rank One Evolver asked, and unlike the other Dark Elves, he was a normal elf like Alice and the others.
But even though he wasn’t a Dark Elf, the aura of Chaos Essence emanating from him indicated that he had also been injected with Chaos Essence.
"Don’t worry, if they try to break the barrier, they will have to use a lot of energy. At that time, we can use those unranked lowlifes of the base to stall them and safely escape from here..." An elf woman with curly hair spoke in a calm voice. She paused for a second before adding.
"Besides, at most, in two hours, our reinforcements will arrive here. Even if these students are strong, it will take them at least more than an hour to break the barrier. Even if we can’t escape by that time, stalling them for some time wouldn’t be a problem."
Another Dark Elf sitting at the corner tore off a piece of cooked steak and spoke in disdain.
"Why are you all so afraid? Not to mention their level is similar to ours, we even have the number advantage on our side. If you ask me, all of us should go out and kill those brats to make a statement."
"You don’t underst—" One of the elves was about to say something to him when suddenly, all seven of them felt a sense of impending doom like never before, and a heart-palpitating energy fluctuation engulfed the entire base.
"What’s going on?"
All seven of them looked at each other in horror and immediately rushed out of the building.
As they came out, they followed the direction the energy fluctuation was coming from and saw someone hovering above their base, aiming at the barrier with a dark purple crossbow.
There was a dark green bolt in the crossbow with purple lightning arcs crackling around it.
"That’s... A human?" One of them realized that Evan wasn’t an elf and spoke in a baffled voice.
The other people also looked at Evan in confusion, their hearts pounding loudly.
"Was there any news about this human in the information we received?"
"No. The information stated that only four students of the academy were coming. There was no mention of this human."
The expressions of the seven Rank One Evolvers were grim as they could feel a life-threatening aura coming from the dark green bolt.
"Let’s go and ask those three idiots. Why the hell didn’t they tell us anything if a variable occurred?" The Dark Elf who had been speaking about fighting earlier cursed and immediately looked towards the three people who had come out earlier.
At this moment, all three Dark Elves who had talked to Alice and the others earlier had looks of disbelief on their faces as they stared at Evan in the sky.
Just as the seven people were about to go to them to ask what was happening, the feeling of danger in their hearts intensified, and they saw a dark green streak of light coming towards the barrier.
The bolt covered the distance of over one hundred meters in less than a split second and struck the barrier.
The hearts of everyone inside the barrier nearly leaped out of their chests when they saw this, as they felt they were going to die.
But when they saw that the barrier only rippled violently and successfully stopped the bolt, their hearts calmed down.
But not even a second later, a sense of danger that was far stronger than before erupted from every cell of their bodies.
All of them looked at the small bolt that was stuck at the top of the barrier, and the next second—
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
A powerful explosion engulfed everything.
Evan, who had flown away right before the Explosion effect of the Arch Eagle Crossbow triggered, felt powerful shockwaves hitting his body from behind, and he swayed slightly.
His ears were ringing, and as he glanced back at the utter chaos behind him, he couldn’t help but gulp down.
’I think I went a bit overboard...’ He thought inwardly, looking at the destruction behind him.
Alice and the others, who were standing two kilometers away from the barrier watched with their eyes wide open as the barrier that had irritated them shattered like glass under the explosion and disappeared completely.
But the thing that shook them was something that happened after the barrier shattered.
Once the barrier disappeared, the powerful shockwaves came crashing down from the sky like a tsunami.
Even though Alice and the others were about two kilometers away from the barrier, they could feel its impact, and their hair swayed wildly.
The base that used to be in the clearing crumbled like a sandcastle under the shockwaves.
All the buildings collapsed into rubble, and the ground sank inward.
Almost all the unranked Evolvers that were inside the base exploded into blood mist the moment they were touched by the shockwaves and disappeared from the face of the world.
The three Rank One Dark Elves who had come out earlier were standing right beneath the center of the explosion. As such, they faced the full brunt of the shockwaves and were blasted away, their skin ripping apart as all of their internal organs shook.
All of them crashed against crumbling buildings and coughed out blood, their eyes rolling back as they fainted.
[You have killed unranked Dark Elf Kilos Level 23.]
[You have killed unranked Elf Adam Level 21.]
[You have killed unranked — — — — —.]
[You have killed unranked — — — — —.]
Tens of notifications of many unranked individuals dying flashed before Evan’s eyes.
Evan glanced at the rapidly refreshing notifications and felt a bit strange in his heart.
Although he had killed people before, they were people who had in some way threatened him or people close to him.
It was the first time he had killed people who hadn’t done anything to him, and he didn’t even know who they were.
Taking a deep breath to clear his head, he glanced at the devastated area from the sky before landing beside Alice and the others.
As he landed, he saw the way Alice and the others were looking at him with their mouths slightly open, their eyes still filled with shock.
Evan shook his head inwardly, as even he didn’t expect the power of that bolt from the Epic Grade artifact to reach such a level.
He coughed lightly and spoke in an awkward voice.
"I think I went a little overboard with my attack. But I think the result is quite good. See, that barrier is broken."
The eyes of Kevin and the others twitched when they heard Evan.
"Brother, not a little, you went completely overboard..." Liam said in a shocked voice.
He pointed towards the destroyed base.
"Everything out there, including the buildings, has been destroyed by you. At this point, I’m not even sure if anyone is still alive out there."
Kevin and the others also nodded at Liam’s words, as they were also wondering if anyone was still left alive in that destroyed base.
"Don’t worry, I didn’t receive a notification about any Rank One Evolver dying..." Evan said calmly. "Only the unranked individuals inside the base should have died under my attack. Those of a higher level are still alive."
Hearing Evan, Liam and the others immediately perked up and looked towards the destroyed base with narrowed eyes.
Although their task would have been completed even if Evan was the one who killed those guys, they still felt somewhat uncomfortable about it.
But now that Evan was saying they were still alive, they immediately rushed towards the base.
As Alice and the others reached the destroyed base, they noticed the three Dark Elves who had been talking to them earlier.
At this moment, their breathing was shallow, and they were buried under the large rubble.
"According to the task details, there should be ten Rank One Evolvers in this base. Search carefully, those seven missing Rank One Evolvers should be here as well."
Just as Alice finished speaking, Evan sensed something through his Wind Detection and rasied an eyebrow.
"I don’t think we need to search for them."
Alice was taken aback by his words and was about to ask what he meant.
But before she could—
Bang!
A pile of rubble some distance away from them exploded, and seven figures appeared before them.
