Chapter 560: Going to the Mercer Family to Cause Trouble

“Don’t even think about hiding in there! I’m telling you, I know you have to come out eventually. You can’t stay in there forever, can you?”

“And don’t even think about getting security to throw me out or calling the police. I’m not afraid of making a scene and letting everyone know. In fact, let them all come and see what an ungrateful wretch of a daughter I’ve raised! Now I, her own mother, can’t even get a glimpse of her!”

Mrs. Scott’s voice was exceptionally loud, not at all befitting a high-society lady. She sounded more like a shrew.

From inside, Nina Scott opened the door. “Fine. Why don’t you shout even louder? Let everyone else see just what kind of mother you are.”

Although Nina Scott opened the door, she didn’t let Mrs. Scott in. She stood blocking the way. “Spit it out. What do you really want?”

“I don’t want anything. I just came to see you. I even brought you breakfast. It’s still hot, so you should eat it while it’s warm.”

“Also, Nina, you haven’t been home for dinner in a long time. Why don’t you come over tonight? We can all have dinner together. I’ll call your brother, and you can bring your husband. Our family hasn’t had a proper meal together in ages.”

Standing in front of Nina Scott, Mrs. Scott had put on a completely different face.

The moment she invited Miles Mercer to dinner, Nina Scott knew her mother’s real motive.

“You found something out, didn’t you?”

Mrs. Scott feigned ignorance. “Found out what?”

Nina Scott said, “Stop acting. You’re a terrible actress. It’s all over the internet, and even Yara knows. I don’t believe for a second that you’re completely clueless.”

Nina Scott added, “I’m not coming home for dinner, and Miles won’t be coming either. So just give up on that idea!”

With that, Nina Scott slammed the apartment door shut. She needed to get to work.

She started walking, and Mrs. Scott followed right behind her. “I just asked you to come home for dinner! Why are you giving me this attitude?”

“Nina Scott, I’m talking to you, didn’t you hear me?! This is all your fault anyway! Why did you have to lie and hide this from me?”

If Nina Scott hadn’t said that man was poor and didn’t have much of a job, she never would have looked down on Miles Mercer.

The first time she saw Miles Mercer, she had thought he was very handsome and felt it was fate that brought them together.

“This apartment, did he buy it for you? Let me tell you, he has no respect for you at all! Forget not meeting the parents before the wedding—he didn’t even give a bride price! There was no ceremony! Are you stupid, marrying him for nothing like that? How much of his family’s fortune do you think you’ll get?”

“Can you just shut up? Can’t you see I don’t want to hear a single word from you?” Nina Scott was absolutely fed up.

She was waiting for the elevator, and Mrs. Scott was waiting too. It was clear her mother was determined to pester her relentlessly, and Nina Scott was incredibly annoyed.

She ducked into the stairwell, ran down two floors, and then took the elevator from there.

Mrs. Scott was furious. Pointing at Nina Scott’s retreating figure, she complained to the driver she had brought with her, “Look at that ungrateful wretch! Aren’t I just doing this for her own good?”

“I just want her to get what she deserves. Besides, our Scott Family raised her for so many years. Shouldn’t she give something back?”

“Just giving her away for free like this… they’re getting a massive bargain.”

“No, I can’t let this go. We’re going to the Mercer Family’s estate. I found out where the Mercer Family’s property in Lustre is.”

When Mrs. Scott arrived at the Mercer residence, the butler came out to open the door.

“You are…” The butler looked at the unfamiliar woman, wondering what she wanted.

Mrs. Scott’s face was plastered with a smile. “Hello, this is the Mercer residence, correct? I’m Nina Scott’s biological mother. I’d like to pay a visit to the Old Master.”

Mrs. Scott had also found out that Old Master Mercer was currently in Lustre.

After the butler went to announce her, he let Mrs. Scott in.

Mrs. Scott gazed at the huge villa. ‘As expected of a wealthy family,’ she thought. ‘I remember this villa used to belong to someone else, and it didn’t look like this. It’s been completely renovated so quickly, and the new decor is so grand and beautiful.’

She had always thought the Scott Family was quite wealthy in Lustre, but compared to this, they were nothing.

Mrs. Scott followed him inside to the reception area. Soon after, Old Master Mercer arrived.

“Hello. I hear you’re Nina’s mother?”

“Yes, Nina Scott is my daughter.” Mrs. Scott smiled. “It’s not much, but I brought a little something as a sign of respect. I hope you don’t mind.”

“We’re all family here, no need for such formalities.” Old Master Mercer didn’t know about Nina’s strained relationship with the Scott Family. Since this was Nina’s mother, he naturally considered her family.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Mrs. Scott began to reveal her true colors. “We’ve known about my daughter and Miles Mercer for some time now. We were just surprised that the Mercer Family hasn’t made any gesture. It’s not easy to raise a daughter, you know?”

“Of course, I understand completely.” The Old Master was actually a very reasonable man.

“Since that’s the case, the Scott Family’s demands aren’t high. A bride price, however, is essential. You can just transfer it directly to me. It was hard enough finding my biological daughter again, and I raised her to be so outstanding. She only secretly married your Miles because she likes him so much. She didn’t tell me until after the fact, which makes me wonder if your family tricked her into this marriage.”

How could the Old Master not realize this woman was just here for money?

Mrs. Scott continued, “The Scott Family can’t compare to your Mercer Family. You’re a great and powerful family, so I’m sure you won’t be lacking in these formalities, right?”

“Of course. So, how much are you asking for the bride price?”

Mrs. Scott held up three fingers without hesitation. “Three hundred million.”

This was no small sum. For the Scott Family, it was possibly their net profit for an entire year, or even two or three.

If this weren’t the Mercer Family, Mrs. Scott wouldn’t have made such an outrageous demand. Knowing the Mercers were rich, she naturally had to ask for more.

Old Master Mercer didn’t actually think it was that much. If the money was for his granddaughter-in-law, he would have no problem with it and would gladly pay.

Old Master Mercer was about to agree when a voice came from the doorway. “No problem. I’ll pay the bride price.”

‘Last time, I only transferred fifty million to Nina. Since the Scott Family wants three hundred million, I’ll just give her some more.’

“I’ll have someone make the transfer.”

Just as he said, Miles Mercer acted without a moment’s hesitation.

But the money wasn’t transferred to the Scott Family. It was transferred to Nina Scott.

Miles Mercer had transferred another three hundred million to Nina Scott, but Mrs. Scott waited for a long time. She even had someone check the bank account, only to find that the family’s funds hadn’t increased at all.

She shamelessly asked, “Has the transfer not gone through yet? Why haven’t I received it?”

Miles Mercer said, “It’s already been deposited into Nina Scott’s account.”

“What? Isn’t this the bride price? It’s supposed to be for me!” Mrs. Scott couldn’t accept that the money she had demanded had gone to Nina Scott instead.

“I don’t need to tell you how you’ve treated Nina since she was a child. The Mercer Family is wealthy, but we’re not stupid. As long as the money is for Nina, I have no problem with it. But if the Scott Family wants it… I’m sorry. You can go ask Nina for it. It’s hers to give, if she’s willing.”
