Chapter 243: I Wanted to Give It to You to Make You Happy

  • Next Chapter

Although Ian Sterling stayed over at Lynn Winslow’s place, he didn’t insist on sharing her room and had to sleep in the guest bedroom for the night.

The sky was clear the next day. Ian Sterling woke up early, opening the window to feel the temperature outside.

It had rained, so the air was cool and not too hot—perfect weather for an outing.

Lynn Winslow was probably still asleep, so Ian Sterling went downstairs first and had the chef make breakfast. By the time Lynn came down, the chef had just left.

“I’ll come find you at noon. We can have lunch near your company, and then tonight, I’ll pick you up and take you to a restaurant I’ve booked?”

Lynn Winslow frowned and asked in confusion, “Why wait until tonight?”

She thought Ian Sterling just wanted to explain what had happened.

Ian Sterling raised an eyebrow, teasing, “So eager?”

Lynn Winslow shot him a glare, finished her meal, and got up to leave. When she reached the entryway, she suddenly remembered something and turned back. “You don’t need to come find me for lunch. I’m planning to go back to the family manor at noon.”

“Hm? Why?” Ian Sterling frowned, clearly displeased.

“There’s something I need to talk to my grandpa about.”

Without further explanation, Lynn Winslow left. Left standing there, Ian Sterling lowered his gaze.

He thought for a moment. ‘It could only be one of two things: something about her uncle, or something about me.’

Thinking of Lynn Winslow’s troublesome uncle, Ian Sterling’s expression gradually turned cold. He stood up, found his phone in the living room, and made a call.

“Is it done?”

“Finn, it’s a bit tricky. We can’t be too conspicuous here in Morelia, so we have to take it slow.”

Ian Sterling said coldly, “Faster.”

The person on the other end said something in a low voice, and Ian Sterling’s expression softened considerably.

Lynn Winslow returned to Winslow Manor at noon. Elder Winslow hadn’t taken his afternoon nap yet and was a little surprised to see her.

“Why the sudden visit?”

Lynn Winslow pressed her lips together. “Grandpa, I want to discuss the matter of my uncle and his family with you.”

Elder Winslow was taken aback but quickly adopted a serious demeanor. He sat up straight and said earnestly, “Go on. Grandpa’s listening.”

“I can’t let this go on any longer. I’m preparing to increase the pressure on my uncle’s family. If he gets hurt in the process, Grandpa, I hope you won’t blame me.”

Elder Winslow lowered his gaze. Remembering the days with his younger brother, he couldn’t help but let out a long sigh.

“Alright, Lynn. Do as you see fit.”

Lynn Winslow looked at her grandfather’s aged face but said nothing more. She stood up, made an excuse to leave, and gave her grandfather space to reminisce.

Elder Winslow watched her figure recede. He then rose, walked slowly up the stairs, and entered his study. From a drawer, he pulled out an old photograph—a picture of him and his deceased younger brother.

In their youth, the two had relied on each other to survive. Later, they built what was now the Winslow Group.

The Winslow Group was split in two, half for him and half for his brother. But his brother’s son was a disappointment; after his father’s death, he squandered his entire half. It was Elder Winslow who had painstakingly brought the Winslow Group back to its current standing. He never expected his nephew to show up just as Lynn was about to take over, trying to snatch away Winslow Corp.

He cherished the memory of his brother, which was why he was reluctant to intervene. But now…

Elder Winslow sighed and stopped dwelling on it. He simply said to the butler by his side, “I’m getting old. It’s time to retire. Let’s leave the rest to the younger generation.”

The butler smiled and said, “Miss Winslow and Young Master Joel are all grown up. It’s time for you to rest.”

Elder Winslow stood up and went to the window, his hands clasped behind his back. “I asked you to look into that boy from the Sterling Family. What did you find?”

“The Sterling Family’s Finn is certainly worthy of Miss Winslow’s affection. Although he has a reputation for being hot-tempered, his character and the way he handles things are impeccable.” The butler retrieved and handed over the investigation file, which included documents on Ian Sterling’s daily conduct and style. Elder Winslow took it, glanced at it a few times, then tossed it aside with a humored snort.

“If he weren’t good enough, I wouldn’t have approved.” Elder Winslow said with a sigh and a smile. “Lynn’s parents aren’t close to her. I know how well that Sterling boy treated her in the past. And even after Lynn dumped him, he chased after her all the way here to make up. That shows this boy truly likes Lynn.”

He let out a long breath and said, “This way, I can rest a lot easier.”

Ian Sterling waited impatiently until evening finally arrived. He drove to Winslow Tower and, while waiting for Lynn Winslow from a distance, he somehow found himself remembering the time Lynn had waited for him just like this downstairs from his company. He had stood her up, and he’d even had to buy that bouquet back from the cleaning lady.

He pressed his lips together, deciding to make it up to Lynn Winslow. He glanced around, then headed towards a flower shop not far away.

After coming downstairs, Lynn Winslow spotted his car from a distance. When she got to it, however, she didn’t see Ian Sterling. Just as she was about to call him, she heard him call her name from behind.

She turned around to find Ian Sterling’s face completely hidden by a huge bouquet of red roses.

Lynn Winslow took a step forward and asked softly, “Why the sudden flowers?”

“I wanted to give them to you, to make you happy.” Ian Sterling tilted his head, peering out from behind the flowers. He said gently, “To make up for standing you up that time.”

Although Lynn Winslow didn’t quite understand what he meant, she still took the bouquet. It was heavy—the flowers, the floral foam, everything. Lynn nearly dropped it, so Ian Sterling had to take it back. “Let me hold it,” he said softly. “You probably can’t carry it.”

Lynn Winslow huffed, her complaining tone tinged with a hint of flirtatiousness. “Then why did you buy such a huge bouquet?”

Ian Sterling didn’t answer her, only saying, “Let’s get in the car.”

Lynn Winslow shot him a sideways glance and pulled open the passenger door. A smaller bouquet was sitting on the seat. Lynn was pleasantly surprised, but she didn’t let it show on her face as she bent down to pick it up.

Ian Sterling had already placed the enormous bouquet in the back seat. Seeing Lynn lower her head to smell the fragrance of the flowers, he chuckled. “Like it?”

“It’s barely acceptable.”

Lynn Winslow was clearly playing hard to get. Ian Sterling didn’t tease her any further. Once she was in the car, he walked around to the driver’s side and got in.

As the car pulled away, something occurred to Lynn Winslow. She asked in confusion, “When did you get a Morelian driver’s license?”

“Ah, I don’t have one.” Ian Sterling’s lips curved into a smile. “I’m driving without a license.”

Lynn Winslow paused, then raised her hand to hit him. Ian Sterling dodged, laughing. “I’ve had it for a long time.”

He had gotten the Morelian license after he and Lynn Winslow started dating. He’d wanted to be able to take a road trip with her when they came back to Morelia, to drive around the place where she grew up.

He didn’t elaborate, but Lynn Winslow could guess. Still, a question lingered in her mind, and it wasn’t about the driver’s license.

Although she and Ian Sterling had been together for some time, she had never felt they were so in sync that she could even guess his thoughts.

As Lynn Winslow was lost in thought, the car came to a stop by the sea.

Ian Sterling wasn’t in a hurry to get to the restaurant. He took Lynn Winslow’s hand, and they walked slowly along the beach.
