Zombie Apocalypse: Creation

Chapter 907: Uncle Wang

  • Next Chapter

The holes and gaps kept appearing throughout the entire aircraft. Half of the zombie’s body was starting to get inside.

Even with infinite ammo, Xiaoyun couldn’t keep up with it. Bullet holes riddled the wall as he kept holding down the trigger.

He was creating ammo on the spot right inside the magazine of the AKM in his hand, using his rifle as if it was a heavy machine gun.

The barrel was literally catching on fire. Yet, Xiaoyun didn’t stop. He couldn’t stop. He didn’t dare to move his finger away.

Zombies were peeking their claws through the side of the aircraft, some even crawling in through the ground from below the cargo space.

"Holy fuck, how long is this one minute going to last?"

Just as Xiaoyun was about to throw his on-fire rifle to the ground, he could hear a loud fan ringing in the distance.

Within seconds, the banging disappeared. The metal screeching was gone. The zombie had stopped peeking its head through the various holes.

In its place was gunfire.

Coming directly from the sky. A minigun attached to either side of a helicopter, raining down bullets on the zombies.

Line after line, mowing them down as the zombies chased after it, trying to catch it despite the impossible height.

Missiles launched down onto the dirt path, blowing the zombies apart as it easily maneuvered around the sky.

All of it was happening right out the window, also visible through the massive holes in the aircraft next to him.

"Thank the fucking god..."

---

When Xiaoyun was back to safety, he was sitting inside the back of a car, with Houqin right next to him.

They were on the highway, with fully armored cars driving alongside them acting as a barrier to any hostile threat.

In the passenger seat was Zhangfei, whose face did not look happy at all as he looked towards the senior officer in the driver’s seat.

"If you came here one or two minutes later, all of us would have died, Uncle Wang." Zhangfei immediately complained.

"You know how long it takes us to drive there... How did your plane even crash?" The senior officer questioned back.

"Malfunction. You’ll need to ask the pilot yourself."

As the drive continued, the senior officer glanced over to the rearview mirror for a second before looking back on the road.

"You’re the guest that General Zhang had invited?"

For a split second, Xiaoyun could see the disdain on the senior officer’s face before it returned to normal.

"Of course he’s the guest. What makes you think he isn’t, Uncle Wang?" Zhangfei immediately argued back.

"I just didn’t expect him to look so young. Sorry if it sounds rude." The senior officer quickly added the last part at the end.

"No problem, I get that comment a lot... I’m only a university student after all."

"A uni student?"

The disdain on the senior officer’s face reemerged as he properly turned around to look Xiaoyun in the face.

"You’re the Guangdong governor? This young?"

"I’m only a temporary governor. It’s just a title that people made for me. You can just call me Xiaoyun instead."

As the disdain turned into a confused look, Zhangfei had a smile on his face as if he was expecting Uncle Wang to have such a reaction.

"No need to be so humble, Xiaoyun. Not like anyone here is going to say anything against you being the governor."

"Formality is formality."

Seeing Xiaoyun continue to push himself down, the senior officer’s face started to change slightly.

The disdainful look was redirected towards Zhangfei, who still held up a careless tone in his voice.

"There’s nobody else outside of this car. No point in—"

"Zhangfei, maybe you should start learning when to keep your mouth shut sometime." The senior officer suddenly murmured.

"What’s the sudden insult for... Oh."

The car fell silent as Zhangfei quickly noticed his uncle’s face. Dead eyes that sent a chill down his spine.

"Ahem, okay. I’ll keep my mouth shut."

With nobody speaking up, the car ride went on smoothly.

Both Xiaoyun and Houqin were constantly looking out the windows, noticing the scenery outside changing rapidly.

There were barely any trees, nor were there any buildings along the roads—just abandoned farmland after abandoned farmland.

Soon, the farmland disappeared.

Hills, and endless small hills. Arid hills with little to no trees. Only grass, some even reaching into the highway itself.

The small town and the airport were long gone. All around them was more wilderness with no human activity.

It almost felt like entering some sort of wilderness encampment if it weren’t for the highway signs indicating the towns ahead.

"Can I ask where we’re going, Mr.Wang?" Xiaoyun asked.

"We’re heading towards a settlement in Tongxin County to refuel, then towards our base in Yinchuan."

Wang paused for a second, then turned around to look Xiaoyun in the eyes.

"You don’t mind meeting the General, right?"

"I have no problem with that. Actually, I’m more than happy to meet him. I have always wondered about the person on the other side."

As Xiaoyun took out a satellite phone from his backpack, Wang’s face flinched for a second before changing back to normal.

"Ahem, may I ask who’s this lady next to you?"

Wang suddenly asked as he quickly noticed the person who had been silent the whole time for most of the car ride so far.

"She’s my right-hand man... She’s also my wife." Xiaoyun answered.

"You from the north?"

"Yes, I am. How do you know that?" Houqin curiously asked, looking a little surprised by Wang’s ability despite not saying a word to give off any hint.

"Because I think I had seen you before."

This time, both Xiaoyun and Zhangfei were surprised. Even Houqin was a little surprised, as she couldn’t recognize Wang’s face in any of her memories.

"You worked in the Taihua City Office in Beijing. You were the clerk who helped me with my Certificate for Veterans card."

"Really?"

As Houqin tried to recall Wang’s face, her memory kept going blank. Yet, he had managed to perfectly describe her job location.

"You probably don’t remember it since there were a lot of people that day. But I just want to say thank you for helping me."

"No problem..."

"Uncle Wang, when did you retire? My dad never told me you retired from the military." Zhangfei questioned.

"That’s because you were still in school. I retired from duty like five years ago." Wang pointed out.

"Wait, you’re Wang Pao, aren’t you?" Houqin suddenly blurted out as a small bit of memory popped into her head.

"I’m surprised you remember my name."

"Of course I do. I remember you walking in and trying to get approval while everyone was on a lunch break."

"Ahem. I had an emergency. I needed to get that card without delays."

As Wang Pao cleared his throat, he looked a little embarrassed for a second before turning his attention back to the road.

"What kind of emergency was it?" Zhangfei curiously asked.

"None of your business. Keep being so nosy, and I’ll tell your dad to ground you for the next two weeks."

"Okay, okay. I won’t ask it again."

Zhangfei quickly apologized, keeping his mouth shut once again as he looked genuinely afraid of his uncle.

"That is some crazy coincidence," Xiaoyun murmured as he really didn’t expect the two to have such a random connection.

"I didn’t expect it either... Now I think about it, can I ask you something a bit personal, Mr.Xiaoyun?"

"Just call me Xiaoyun."

"Xiaoyun, I’ve heard some stories about you from a few friends of mine... Never mind, just pretend I—"

"Is it about me having multiple wives?" Xiaoyun asked, interrupting Wang Pao from finishing his sentence.

"Yeah..."

"When people say good news doesn’t travel far, but bad news travels fast, they aren’t wrong, are they?"

Both Wang Pao and Zhangfei scratch their head at the same time, as if they were guilty of something.

"To answer that question, yes, I do," Xiaoyun answered.

"I didn’t expect you to be so upfront about it." Wang Pao murmured as he looked a little taken aback by it.

"I’m not the type of person who’s hiding them as mistresses or concubines. To me, all of them are equal to each other."

As Xiaoyun started to get defensive, Wang Pao quickly shifted the conversation away, as the trip still had a long way to go.

"I see... How about the situation in the South? Is everything going fine in Guangdong?"

"Depends on how you define what fine means. Right now it’s stabilized, and we’re continuing to clear city after city."

Both Zhangfei and Wang Pao could see Xiaoyun lifting up his chin slightly, shifting away from humility to pride.

"We recently captured all of Zhuhai and Macao, with Hong Kong up next. After that, the entire Pearl Delta is cleared."

"That’s... Extremely impressive to hear."
