Chapter 2184: Chapter 2181: Seeded Contestant
The weapon halberd originated on the battlefield and has been around for a long time; initially, there were bronze halberds, but in later dynasties, they became tools for ceremonial display, mere decorations.
This is because the halberd demands a lot from its user, especially the Fangtian Halberd, which requires a complex skill set combining power and technique. As a heavy weapon, it can match the strength of hammers and the dexterity of knives and spears, thus typical Ancient Martial Artists generally cannot wield it.
If used well, it can defy ten thousand enemies on the battlefield; poorly used, it becomes cumbersome. Over time, the Fangtian Halberd became a royal ceremonial tool, which is rather lamentable.
At this moment, seeing the halberd surrounded by such a strong evil aura, Lin Tian couldn’t help but glance a few more times; this weapon was not merely an ornament.
"The head of the Yuwen Family is someone you probably haven’t seen before; Yuwen Chenghua is the father of the Yuwen siblings, with Innate Middle Stage strength. Unfortunately, the Yuwen Family’s population is sparse and talent dwindling; in a few centuries, the Yuwen Family may totally decline,"
Miss explained softly as she noticed Lin Tian staring toward the Yuwen Family.
"It’s said that the Yuwen Family’s dwindling population is due to the Sky Halberd; its heavy evil aura supposedly affects the family’s fortune," Ling Shuiyao added quietly.
Lin Tian found it amusing and shook his head, saying, "You believe such nonsense? Everyone in the Situ family has such heavy evil aura but their population isn’t dwindling. You could say it’s due to the Yuwen Family’s Cultivation Technique, which is somewhat plausible."
"By the way, who is that person from the Ji Family? Didn’t see him at the last Sword Appreciation Festival," Lin Tian turned his gaze towards the Ji Family, curiously asking.
"Ji Zimo’s grandfather, Ji Wancheng, is also at the Innate Middle Stage; however, the Ji Family’s cultivation of the Emperor Heart Technique is very special, seemingly suppressing other techniques. This makes Ji Wancheng the strongest fighter in the Innate Middle Stage," Miss furrowed her brow with apprehension.
Lin Tian raised his eyebrows, speaking casually, "No wonder Ji Wancheng is so calm; Ji Zimo cultivates the Emperor Heart Technique as well. Seems like winning the Ancient Martial competition is already set for the Ji Family as the number one."
"Ji Zimo is already at the Innate Early Stage, the first among the younger generation; who dares to contend with him?" Ling Shuiyao pouted, though reluctantly, as even Little La Jiao cannot best Miss, much less compete with Ji Zimo.
"Let’s see, perhaps there might be some unexpected changes," Lin Tian glanced at Miss, his tone indifferent.
As Lin Tian surveyed the Ancient Martial Artists in the field, they also looked at him, as his current appearance invited admiration, envy, and resentment, especially among the men.
Escorted by two stunning beauties upon entering, he was more high-profile than all other Ancient Martial families.
"What more could one desire in life!" An Ancient Martial Artist marveled.
"Indeed, having even one beauty is heaven’s gift; Brother Lin Tian is surrounded by them; how are we singles supposed to live?"
"I bet Lin Tian saved the world in his previous life," someone commented earnestly.
While some were envious, others were naturally resentful; Situ Yufeng and Li Wenfeng’s kind looked at Lin Tian’s setup nearly gnashing their teeth.
"A barbarian is indeed a barbarian; what a disgrace," Situ Yuanzhong scowled, displeased.
"No matter how high-profile he acts, he can’t compete; he can only watch as others claim glory," muttered a disciple of the Situ Family, his voice thick with jealousy.
Ling Zishan and Wang Wanxi observed this scene and smiled wryly, helpless; they knew well Lin Tian’s charm, never lacking in beautiful companions.
Lin Tian’s thick skin is as solid as a fortress wall; he didn’t bother about such affairs, allowing others to speak.
Miss and Ling Shuiyao were not the bashful type either, boldly entered the venue, and chose a spot gracefully setting things down. Miss knew Lin Tian didn’t want to associate with Situ Family members, so she picked a corner spot.
However, with such an entrance, even a corner became the focus.
Lin Tian looked around, not seeing the person he sought, wondering aloud, "Where is Ghost? Could he be absent? He has a scheduled duel with Li Wenfeng."
"Mr. Wang promised to bring him, he should be around here," Yun Xiaotian said softly, glancing, but her vision couldn’t locate Mr. Wang and Ghost.
"What are the rules of this competition?" Lin Tian asked again.
"Circles drawn on the ground; fighting must stay within the boundaries; drawing lots separates into groups for paired duels; the top two advance, then elimination matches determine rankings," Miss explained simply.
"If several top fighters are grouped together, isn’t it a waste? Top targets would be eliminated prematurely, while weaker ones advance based on luck," Lin Tian seemed puzzled.
Miss seemed to anticipate this, responding calmly, "Judges choose seed players based on past achievements and performance, distributing them evenly per group, ensuring relative fairness."
"That seems better, though some independent Ancient Martial Practitioners lack fame yet have solid strength; these might become the dark horses of the Ancient Martial competition," Lin Tian thought of possibilities, showing a slight smile.
"You’re right, even families can’t grasp all independent Ancient Martial Practitioners, hence dark horses may appear. But, you’re not one of them, since you showed your ability at the Sword Appreciation Festival; otherwise, participating in the Ancient Martial competition would make you the biggest dark horse," Miss laughed, having witnessed Lin Tian’s prowess along the journey.
Sometimes she wondered about Lin Tian’s methods but knew which questions to ask; when Lin Tian chose to share, he naturally would.
"Get out of my way, all of you, who dares block my path!" An arrogant voice interrupted their conversation.
Upon hearing this, Lin Tian furrowed his brow, turned to see Situ Ruoling.
"When was she released?" Lin Tian asked.
"Last night, saying if it weren’t for this Ancient Martial competition, she’d be kept locked longer," Ling Shuiyao said, clearly displeased.
"After being detained so long, still so arrogant; the confinement didn’t dull her edges but rather ingrained deep resentment," Xiao Manxuan saw through Situ Ruoling’s nature.
As people surrounded the periphery, Situ Ruoling scolded while advancing, the independent Ancient Martial Practitioners saw the unruly girl and retreated, avoiding trouble.
One chubby fellow moved too slowly, then Situ Ruoling’s expression turned cold, cursing "Commoner," before kicking him hard, sending his massive figure flying and demonstrating her significant force.
With a thud, the fatty crashed and fell at Lin Tian’s stretcher.
"Fatty Huang, it’s you..." Lin Tian recognized the fatty’s face instantly.
