Chapter 148: Bunny Wolves
The nearest Bunny Wolf suddenly growled, and all of them charged.
Seraphina immediately raised her staff and slammed its bottom against the stone floor. "Ice Wall!"
Several thick walls of ice erupted from the ground around them, forming a protective barrier that covered their backs and sides while leaving only the area directly in front of them open.
The Bunny Wolves immediately changed their direction when they realized they could no longer surround the two of them.
Some rushed toward the open space while others slammed their bodies against the newly created ice walls, trying to break through.
Amon glanced at the walls before raising his hand. "Frost Manipulation."
A layer of freezing energy instantly spread through the ice, strengthening its structure and making the walls several times harder than before.
The Bunny Wolves continued throwing themselves against them, but the reinforced ice barely moved.
"That should hold them for a while," Amon said.
Seraphina nodded before turning her attention toward the creatures approaching from the front.
The first Bunny Wolf leapt. Amon disappeared from his place.
Spatial Steps activated, and his body instantly appeared above the creature.
He landed directly on its back with enough force to drive it into the stone floor.
The creature struggled beneath him, snapping its jaws toward his leg, but Amon had already raised his battleaxe.
The weapon came down with a heavy swing and severed the creature’s head from its body.
Before the body had even stopped moving, another Bunny Wolf lunged toward him.
Amon jumped backward.
Seraphina stepped forward at the same time. "Frost Wave!"
A massive wave of ice erupted from her staff and swept across the chamber.
Amon immediately extended his hand. "Frost Manipulation."
His power merged with Seraphina’s spell. The wave expanded.
The ice became denser and sharper, spreading across a much larger area than it would have normally covered.
The Bunny Wolves caught within the attack were thrown backward as their bodies became coated in layers of frost.
Amon jumped onto the top of the nearest ice wall.
His boots landed against the smooth surface, and he quickly adjusted his balance while looking over the battlefield.
Several Bunny Wolves were still moving.
Amon’s body disappeared from the top of the wall and reappeared directly above one of the creatures.
The Bunny Wolf looked upward and Amon was already descending.
He pulled out his short sword and drove it toward the creature’s throat.
The blade pierced through its neck, and Amon immediately pulled it free before jumping backward.
Another group of Bunny Wolves rushed toward him.
Amon raised his free hand. "Frost Spear."
Several spears of ice formed around him and with a flick of his hand, they shot forward.
The spears pierced through multiple creatures and pinned them against the stone wall behind them.
Amon landed on the ground and looked at the monsters who were approaching quickly.
He lowered his battleaxe and instead of gripping it near the center, he grabbed the very end of the handle, giving the weapon a much wider range of movement.
Three Bunny Wolves charged simultaneously.
Amon planted his foot firmly against the ground. His entire body twisted.
The battleaxe followed his movement as he rotated three hundred and sixty degrees.
The blade swept through the surrounding creatures.
Three bodies were cut down by the same attack, their momentum carrying them several steps farther before they collapsed onto the stone floor.
Amon stopped his rotation and immediately regained his balance. He looked toward the remaining creatures.
There weren’t many left.
Seraphina stepped forward. "You can leave the rest to me."
Amon glanced at her before stepping aside. "Go ahead."
Seraphina raised her staff. The remaining Bunny Wolves charged toward her.
Ice rapidly spread across the floor beneath them.
The creatures attempted to change direction, but the freezing ground caught their feet.
Seraphina brought her staff downward.
Several massive spikes of ice erupted from the ground.
One after another, the remaining creatures were struck by the attack until the chamber finally became silent.
Amon lowered his battleaxe. The last Bunny Wolf slowly disappeared into particles of mana.
Seraphina stood still for a moment before looking toward him.
Amon noticed her expression. "What happened?"
She stared at him for another second. "Why don’t you use mana more often when you’re fighting?"
Amon raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"You have so much mana, and you can use almost every element." She lowered her staff slightly. "But most of the time, you fight with your body and weapons."
Amon thought about it for a moment. "Because it can fuck up our coordination."
Seraphina frowned. "How?"
"It would be disastrous to have two mages constantly throwing large-scale spells around in the same team." Amon gestured toward the battlefield.
"If both of us start using powerful attacks without coordinating properly, we’ll interfere with each other’s movements."
Seraphina crossed her arms. "You can still use mana more than physical strength."
"I know." Amon looked down at his battleaxe.
"I’m still getting the hang of my battle style. I haven’t completely figured out how I want to combine everything yet."
He looked back toward her. "But I’ll use mana more as I get used to it. Don’t worry."
Seraphina sighed. "Just be careful."
Amon smiled. "I will."
The two continued deeper into the dungeon.
The deeper they went, the more the environment changed.
The stone passages became wider in some places and narrower in others, forcing them to occasionally walk side by side with their shoulders almost touching.
They encountered another group of monsters shortly afterward.
This time, small lizard-like creatures emerged from cracks in the walls and attempted to attack them in large numbers.
Amon dealt with the creatures closest to them while Seraphina froze the ones trying to escape.
A little farther ahead, they entered a chamber filled with thick roots growing through the stone.
The roots suddenly began moving.
Several plant-like monsters pulled themselves from the walls and attacked them with long vines.
Seraphina froze the vines with frost magic while Amon moved through the gaps between their attacks and destroyed the creatures at their cores.
Later, they encountered a group of armored beetle-like monsters whose shells were surprisingly tough.
Amon had to strike the same creature several times before finally breaking through its shell, while Seraphina froze the joints underneath their armor so he could finish them more easily.
The dungeon seemed determined to keep throwing different challenges at them but neither of them slowed down.
They continued moving.
Amon would open an opportunity and Seraphina would exploit it. Seraphina would restrict the monsters and Amon would finish them.
After several more encounters, the dungeon finally became quiet again.
They eventually reached another large corridor.
At the end of it stood a massive stone doorway. A green veil covered the entrance.
The strange barrier moved slowly like a curtain being disturbed by an invisible breeze.
Amon stopped in front of it and Seraphina walked beside him and looked at the green barrier.
Neither of them could see what was waiting on the other side.
Amon stared at the veil for a few seconds. "The boss won’t be that hard."
Seraphina turned toward him. "Nothing is too hard for you."
Amon looked at her with a faint smile. "Is that a compliment?"
"It’s a complaint."
Amon chuckled.
Seraphina looked toward the green veil again. "Honestly, I think you’ve gotten even stronger than me."
Amon turned toward her with a grin. "Are you jealous?"
Seraphina stared at him and she nodded.
"Yes."
Amon blinked. He had expected her to deny it.
Instead, she simply admitted it without hesitation. "You really are jealous?"
She nodded again. "I am."
Amon chuckled softly and shook his head. "Well, there’s nothing wrong with that."
Seraphina gave him an annoyed look. "You’re enjoying this."
"Maybe a little."
She sighed before looking at the green veil again.
Amon stepped forward. "Let’s get this over with."
Seraphina nodded.
The two stood before the strange barrier.
The air around the entrance felt different from the rest of the dungeon. There was a heavier pressure behind the veil.
Amon could feel mana gathering on the other side, as though something had been waiting for them.
He tightened his grip around his battleaxe.
Seraphina adjusted her grip on her staff.
Amon glanced toward her and she nodded her head.
Amon drew in a deep breat. ’Maximum effort.’
The two stepped through the green veil together.
