100x return : My Strength Is the Sum of My Clan
Chapter 42 The Protective Patriarch, Julian Mercer!
Chapter 42: Chapter 42: The Protective Patriarch, Julian Mercer!
To boast so shamelessly in front of Julian Mercer, the Patriarch of the Mercer Family, was practically an invitation to humiliation.
After all, Old Rowan had already suspected that Julian was the reincarnation of an Ancient Great Emperor who had begun to awaken. Even setting that aside, the sheer quantity of resources Cedric Whitmore had been boasting about was enough to make the old soul laugh.
"Heh! Even an old man like me, a Celestial Human Realm cultivator, wouldn’t dare boast so recklessly in the Mercer Family. Yet this narrow-minded fool actually believes he can impress everyone with a few empty promises!"
At that moment, Cedric looked at the silent Adrian Mercer and Ethan Mercer and finally realized that he had been rejected once again.
Being turned down three times in succession by two young men was an embarrassing experience, even for a cultivator at the Ninth Layer of the Purple Mansion Realm.
A wave of irritation rose within him.
However, considering the importance of recruiting these two geniuses into the Silvercrest Order, he ultimately restrained himself from taking his anger out on them.
Instead, Cedric turned toward Julian, who sat beside him.
Seeing the Patriarch remaining calm and composed, as though he were watching an amusing performance, Cedric felt even more frustrated.
"Patriarch Mercer, you’ve seen the talents of these two young men with your own eyes. Surely, you’re a reasonable person who understands that keeping them here will only waste their potential."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"If they remain with your family, I’m afraid they might struggle even to reach the Origin Sea Realm during their lifetimes."
"Only the Silvercrest Order can provide them with a broader world. Under our guidance, reaching the Star Wheel Realm would no longer be an extravagant dream. Furthermore, our Order can offer protection to your entire family, allowing everyone to develop together. Why would you refuse such an advantageous arrangement?"
As Cedric finished speaking, Julian suddenly let out a chuckle, as though he had just heard an exceptionally ridiculous joke.
"A broader world?"
He shook his head slightly.
"Hahaha! So this is how the Silvercrest Order elevates itself? By belittling others to make itself look impressive? You certainly know how to polish your own reputation."
Julian slowly rose from his grand chair.
He lowered his gaze toward Cedric, his expression turning cold.
"There’s something I believe I neglected to make clear earlier."
"I already told you that I wouldn’t interfere with my clansmen’s futures. Whether they leave or remain is entirely their decision. If Adrian and Ethan wish to join the Silvercrest Order, I won’t object. I will respect their choices."
His voice grew firmer.
"But they’ve already given you their answer. They’ve clearly refused."
Julian’s gaze sharpened.
"So long as I remain here, nobody will force them to change their minds!"
The moment those words fell, the entire reception hall fell silent.
Adrian and Ethan abruptly raised their heads, staring at Julian’s tall figure.
Their eyes flickered with emotion.
They had heard plenty about the Silvercrest Order. It was a powerful organization overseen by a cultivator at the Moon Wheel Realm, a force far beyond the reach of an ordinary family.
Yet even when facing such a powerful organization, their Patriarch had openly declared that he would protect their right to choose.
He was willing to risk offending the Silvercrest Order simply to defend their decision.
At that moment, both young men felt an overwhelming sense of pride in belonging to the Mercer Family.
They were fortunate to have been born into a clan with such a protective Patriarch.
The contrast between their emotions and those of the two visitors couldn’t have been greater.
Cedric’s expression had become increasingly gloomy, while Darius Fenwick stared at Julian in disbelief.
Darius had never imagined that Julian would dare risk offending the Silvercrest Order so thoroughly for the sake of two young clansmen.
Fine. Let’s see how you handle this situation now.
Remembering the humiliation he had suffered during his previous encounter with the Mercer Family, Darius’s eyes gradually filled with resentment.
He had originally come here hoping to witness Cedric recruit the two geniuses. Now, however, he was more interested in seeing Julian face the consequences of his stubbornness.
Meanwhile, Cedric finally lost his patience.
Seeing that Julian remained completely unmoved by his offer, his expression darkened.
"It seems I’ve underestimated you, Patriarch Mercer."
His voice turned cold.
"You’re determined to reject my offer and keep these two geniuses trapped within your small family, refusing to seek a better future for them."
He slowly stood up, his gaze sweeping across Adrian and Ethan.
"Very well. I refuse to let two exceptional talents remain buried in obscurity."
"Today, I will take these two disciples back with me, whether you agree or not!"
Julian let out a disdainful laugh.
"So, when your offer is rejected, you resort to openly robbing people?"
He tilted his head slightly.
"Is this the way the Silvercrest Order conducts itself?"
Julian’s smile grew colder.
"Perhaps your name is inappropriate. Instead of the Silvercrest Order, you should call it the Silvercrest Bandits."
"Presumptuous!"
Hearing Julian insult his organization once again, Cedric’s anger erupted.
His eyebrows shot upward, and he immediately extended his right hand toward the long sword at his waist.
The atmosphere inside the reception hall instantly turned tense.
