Chapter 474: Chapter 419: Crisis of a Million Lives (Part 3)

"...It might be a huge tragedy, but we’re powerless to stop it," Li Meng said.

But then, Bai Xuewu suddenly said, "I’ll do the guiding. With the Mecha’s mobility, as long as I shut down the visual module, I won’t be affected by the Crimson Fear."

The others stared at her in surprise.

"How are you supposed to operate with the visual module shut down?" Li Meng immediately shot down the idea. "Absolutely not!"

"...I... I can help," Chen Na said softly. "My Perception Realm doesn’t ’see,’ so it won’t be affected. If you need me to... I can be Bai’s ’eyes’."

A grateful smile touched Bai Xuewu’s lips. Moved, she patted Chen Na’s shoulder and gave her a thankful look.

"You two..."

Li Meng hadn’t expected them to make such a choice and was momentarily at a loss for words.

Silver Fox sighed, pressing a hand to her forehead. "Well, I guess that means I’m staying too. As the oldest one here, I can’t let the kids show me up."

"Then I’ll help too!" Yang Ran piped up, mustering his courage. "If everyone’s in, I can’t be the one left behind!"

The only one who hadn’t spoken was Guan Tong, and all eyes turned to him, their captain.

"If that’s how it is, then there’s nothing more to say," Guan Tong said. "I’ll have Shadow shut down its sense of sight and use a combination of touch and hearing to determine the enemy’s position to help with the guiding."

"Guan Tong, you too?" Li Meng had thought Guan Tong would take a more logical stance and overrule his teammates.

"I think that with Na’s Perception Realm, we really do have a chance to pull off the guiding and save the nearly one million people in the city." Guan Tong paused. "Besides, I really want to kill those Parasites."

The others were taken aback.

They weren’t surprised by the first half of his statement, but the second half made them realize that Guan Tong seemed to harbor a deep-seated hatred for the Parasites.

"Come on, Na. We’re short on time. We need to practice our coordination," Bai Xuewu said, taking Chen Na’s hand and quickly heading out.

She would have to pilot her Mecha with its visual module shut down, guided solely by Chen Na using her Perception Realm. That was easier said than done.

Yang Ran went with them, but Silver Fox, seeing that Li Meng had something to say, stayed behind.

Once the other team members had left, leaving only Silver Fox and Guan Tong, Li Meng spoke. "Bai Xuewu and Chen Na are both young; it’s easy for them to be impulsive and let their emotions rule them. But you, Silver Fox, and you, Guan Tong... you’re more experienced. Are you really determined to take this risk?"

Silver Fox replied candidly, "Section Chief Li, I do think Chen Na’s ability can help, but I also believe the risk is very high. I’m choosing to stay simply because I don’t want to abandon my teammates. Even if this decision is wrong, I’ll bear the consequences with them."

Li Meng said, "And you, Guan Tong? I want to know what you’re thinking. I could tell that after learning those Cultists were just Parasites in disguise, you became a bit impulsive yourself. That leads me to believe you’re choosing to stay because of some other personal vendetta against them. Am I wrong?"

"You’re not wrong," Guan Tong admitted. "They once tried to harm someone close to me, so I’ve decided to wipe them from this planet completely... But personal vendettas aside, my Shadow and my Shadow Realm, combined with Na’s perception, can be remarkably effective in a combat environment with no visuals. Millions of lives are at stake. If we have a chance to save them, it’s better than giving up."

Li Meng was silent for a few seconds before taking a deep breath. "I understand... I’ll report this to Mr. Gao. But I have one condition: you must have a backup plan. If things go south, you must guarantee you have a way to pull out at a moment’s notice!"
