Chapter 475: Chapter 420: The Seventh Page of the Wordless Book

Time waits for no one.

After the North Star Team decided to stay behind and guide the Annihilators to complete their extermination mission, they began preparing in earnest.

The lieutenant general from Soloma was overjoyed when Li Meng told him the news. After all, besides Shangyuan Zi staying behind to represent the Sakura Prayer Team, every other team had already chosen to leave.

He had been planning to abandon the city and evacuate, but now that the North Star Team and Sakura Prayer Team were willing to stay and help, there was a chance for things to turn around.

After the lieutenant general reported the news up the chain of command, even Soloma’s high-level Senate was quite surprised. The King of Soloma himself even sent a video call to express his gratitude.

"On behalf of the city’s one million people, I thank your North Star Team for your help," the King of Soloma said from the screen. "I have already dispatched all trustworthy Ascenders from the eastern region and all our Annihilators to the battlefield. The authority to guide them will also be handed over to your team members. Regardless of whether the operation succeeds or fails, you will be well-rewarded for your assistance."

Li Meng replied respectfully, "We are fighting to protect the lives of this city’s million people, not for profit. We only hope the reinforcements can arrive as soon as possible."

After the call ended, the lieutenant general took out several specially made remote control devices and handed them to Li Meng.

These could be used on-site to designate targets and attack perimeters, guiding the Annihilators in combat.

After taking the remotes, Li Meng immediately went to regroup with his team.

He went to the temporary training ground and saw Bai Xuewu and Chen Na practicing their Perception Realm guidance coordination, with Silver Fox and Yang Ran assisting from the side.

Due to the nature of their abilities, although the entire team was staying, only two people were actually responsible for close-range guidance: Bai Xuewu and Guan Tong.

Silver Fox’s and Yang Ran’s abilities were not applicable in this operation, so their mission was simply to protect Chen Na, who would be using her perception in place of her sight from a medium distance.

As soon as Li Meng arrived, he noticed Guan Tong was missing and immediately asked, "Where’s your captain?"

Silver Fox replied, "He said he had something to take care of and would be over in a bit."

Li Meng frowned at his words. ’With the Cultist army at the gates and disaster imminent, what could possibly be more important?’

However, he also knew Guan Tong wasn’t an unreliable person. If he wasn’t here at a time like this, he must be making some important preparations. So, Li Meng waited with the others.

Meanwhile, Guan Tong, alone in his room, was indeed attending to a crucial matter.

The Wordless Book lay open before him, turned to the still-blank seventh page.

Although he had been developing the contents of the previous pages ever since Pinglu, he still hadn’t had any good ideas for what to write on the new page.

The dilemma was that infinite choices meant infinite distractions.

The result of wanting this and also wanting that was being unable to put pen to paper.

But things were different now.

He was now facing a tangible crisis.

This reminded him of his original purpose when he’d written on the previous pages—each one had been to solve a real problem he was facing at the time.

Aside from the first page, which he hadn’t put much thought into, the content of every page from the second onward had specifically targeted a particular predicament.

’So why should I be agonizing over it now? Using the power of a new page to deal with my current predicament is the simplest, most direct, and most logical choice.’

Guan Tong mused. ’The greatest threat we face right now comes from the brain—or rather, the psychic level. Conceptually, there’s the irrational fear induced by Crimson Fear, which can cause people to die from stress—that’s a psychic threat. On the enemy’s side, there’s the suspected Mind Controller in the Fire Worship Cult and the transformation caused by the Parasites. Those are also psychic methods of control and mutation... In that case, what I need now is perfectly clear.’

He knew what he needed now was the ability to resist psychic attacks.

And ideally, this ability should be able to help others resist them as well.

’My own Psychic Power has a high upper limit, so others’ psychic attacks probably won’t have much effect on me. But the same can’t be said for my teammates or other people.’

A thought struck Guan Tong, and he suddenly took out two items.

They were the two Go pieces—one black, one white—that Wenren Yizhi had given him.

’Why can’t I imitate her method of applying this ability?’

If he could give a product of his Psychic Power to others to help them deal with psychic threats, it would be a major breakthrough.

He had this idea because he was no longer the same Guan Tong from before—a lone wolf who traveled the world without a care.

Now, he frequently cooperated with others, receiving their help and helping them in return. It wasn’t strange for him to consider how a new ability could protect others, not just himself.

Guan Tong stared at the two pieces in his hand, his line of thought growing clearer.

Soon, his eyes lit up. He made his decision and, with a flourish of his pen, wrote a single word on the seventh page of the Wordless Book.

"Anchor."

Not the anchor of a ship, but the "anchor" in "anchor point."

That’s right. He was going to use the power of the Wordless Book to create an entirely new Psychic Power construct.

This construct was a type of "Spiritual Anchor Point." As long as someone held it, they could resist or weaken psychic attacks to a certain degree.

He had drawn his inspiration for this construct from Wenren Yizhi’s "Black Chess Piece."

Adopting the best aspects of others’ abilities or items to improve his own had been a strategy of his for a long time.

The moment the word was written, a massive amount of Psychic Power converged and poured into the page.

The word "Anchor" twisted and then peeled away from the page. The Wordless Book, understanding Guan Tong’s desire, transformed his imagination into reality.

As the word lifted from the page, Guan Tong suddenly felt a warmth spread across his right palm.
