Chapter 32: Chapter 32: On Employees’ Professional Ethics
"Truly, birds of a feather flock together! No wonder you’re not resistant at all, they’re just like you." Aunt Wang comfortingly patted Fu Xiaoxiao.
"It’s fate, so I won’t treat them like a mother demanding obedience. The two kids are sensible, and these past few days at home, they’ve helped me quite a bit." Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head; it was the original owner who was pitiful, not her. She never felt sorry for herself.
It’s just that the starting point in life is different; the world is like a game, passing one level after another, until life’s end, it finally finishes.
She considers herself a player, refusing to wallow in self-pity; that’s the best start for herself.
To love others, you must first love yourself.
"You’ve really had it tough, girl, but your mindset is spot on. There’s no hurdle in life that can’t be overcome. Stay happy, and you won’t suffer." Aunt Zhang gave Fu Xiaoxiao a big thumbs up as they watched her still smiling cheerfully.
"Thank you, aunts. It’s such a joy to be with you all!" Fu Xiaoxiao leaned playfully against their shoulders and laughed.
"Oh my, this girl!" The four aunts were amused by Fu Xiaoxiao, laughing heartily.
"Ring ring ring~"
The school bell rang for class.
The students quickly ran back to the classroom, and seeing them return, Lu Chen came out to look for Fu Xiaoxiao.
Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao chatting with Aunt Zhang and others at the school gate, Lu Chen jogged over. He remembered Fu Xiaoxiao had taught him: when in the village, call the older ones ’Granny’ and the younger ones ’Auntie.’
"Hello, grannies." Looking at the four elders, Lu Chen obediently greeted them.
"Oh my, what a sweet talker." Hearing Lu Chen call them grannies, Aunt Wang and the others quickly searched their pockets but found them empty.
The sunflower seeds were long gone.
"Next time, Granny will give you something tasty!" Aunt Zhang promised as she patted Lu Chen’s cheek.
"It’s okay if Granny doesn’t have anything, I’m not greedy." Lu Chen shook his head, remembering Fu Xiaoxiao told him not to accept things from strangers. What if they were kidnappers?
But these words were truly rare in the ears of the aunts.
"It’s rare to see such a good kid. Fu, meeting them is fate; the future won’t be bad." Aunt Zhang patted Lu Chen’s head fondly.
"The little rascals at my house, I just want to use firewood on them. They’re always causing trouble, either on the roof taking tiles off or making chickens fly and dogs jump at home." Aunt Zhang sighed.
Compared to Lu Chen, the little monkeys at home were worlds apart.
"You aunts are lucky; in the future, your sons and grandsons will be filial. A little bit of mischief is good! Boys should be tough." Fu Xiaoxiao smiled.
"Only you would praise them." Those words hit the aunts’ sweet spot; as much as they complained about their little monkeys, they still wanted to hear good things.
They looked at Fu Xiaoxiao with more kindness and affection.
After a while, Zhao Qing and a young intellectual named Wu Shucheng ran over, and upon seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, they both froze.
They were somewhat afraid of this seemingly delicate, soft woman who looked like she needed protection but actually left people speechless, bending them to her will.
They were already late returning, so Zhao Qing nodded at Fu Xiaoxiao and hurriedly led Wu Shucheng into the school.
"Xiao Chen, shall we go back too?" Fu Xiaoxiao held Lu Chen’s hand and asked.
"Brother said we don’t need to pick him up, he’ll come home on his own." Lu Chen remembered something and told Fu Xiaoxiao.
Lu Lin was more familiar with the road from the village to the troop camp than Fu Xiaoxiao was.
"Aunts, I’ll take the child home now, and we’ll chat next time." Fu Xiaoxiao said goodbye to the four aunts.
"Alright. When you come next time, be sure to visit our home." Aunt Wang and the others waved cheerfully at Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Chen, watching them leave.
"This girl is really nice." After Fu Xiaoxiao left, Aunt Zhang said with a smile.
"She chatted with us for so long and never got impatient." Aunt Zhang nodded in agreement.
"Much better than those other young intellectuals, not at all aloof. She’s a good girl." Aunt Zhang agreed too.
Aunt Zhang and Aunt Zhang rarely disagreed with each other.
"She talks just like I did back in the day, I like it." Aunt Wang smiled; she was fond of Fu Xiaoxiao.
Her demeanor of taking on ten at once left those young intellectuals in awe.
She had the style from back in the day.
The three Aunt Zhangs didn’t argue. After all, Aunt Wang’s formidable past was still legendary in the village.
When Fu Xiaoxiao and Lu Chen returned to the family compound, Chen Xiu happened to be returning with her groceries. Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, she waved urgently.
"Sister, everyone from the latest mission is back, but I just didn’t see your Camp Commander Lu..." Chen Xiu went to see her own man, who was only slightly injured, and would recover in two days, so she was relieved.
But after looking around, she didn’t see Lu Feng, and a wave of panic hit her.
Could it be Fu Xiaoxiao just got married and would have to be widowed?
Fu Xiaoxiao shook her head. "Sister, Xiao Lu just told me, Lu Feng was more seriously injured and won’t be back until the evening."
"That’s good, that’s good!" Chen Xiu patted her chest, not daring to say the taboo word.
They most dreaded using the word ’S.’
"Sister, I wanted to ask, where can I buy a chicken? I want to make Lu Feng some soup." Fu Xiaoxiao asked Chen Xiu.
"If you want to buy a chicken, go to the canteen and ask them to get you one!" Chen Xiu directed Fu Xiaoxiao to the army’s canteen.
"Alright, thank you, sister." Fu Xiaoxiao took Lu Chen and headed to the canteen.
Arriving at the kitchen, it wasn’t meal time yet, so the canteen hall was deserted.
Fu Xiaoxiao found the back kitchen door, where the cooks were diligently doing their work, the kitchen organized and methodical.
"Hello...?" Fu Xiaoxiao gently knocked on the door, asking with some embarrassment.
All the cooks froze in shock, abandoning their tasks, turning their heads in unison.
Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, their eyes widened.
"There, there, there... there’s a woman..."
"Sergeant, there’s a woman..."
"Am I seeing things? Where did such a beautiful woman come from..."
"Is the army finally arranging wives for us?"
A few soldiers excitedly pinched each other, thinking maybe they’d gone crazy from working.
"Stop being silly, that’s the sergeant’s wife!" The sergeant rolled his eyes and slapped them each.
The only women who would come to the army would certainly be wives, what did it have to do with them, each of them dreaming in broad daylight.
"Ma’am, is there something you need?" The sergeant walked up to Fu Xiaoxiao, smiling.
"Sorry to bother you at work. I was wondering if you have any chickens, I’d like to buy one to make soup." Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the sergeant, asking politely.
"May I ask who you are..." The sergeant nodded knowingly, confirming Fu Xiaoxiao was one of the wives, though he hadn’t met this wife before; whose wife could she be?
