A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1118 - 1118
About three minutes later.
The neatly dressed Daoist opened the meeting room door.
He happened to see Dirk Carter and Elbert Rivers taking photos in the garden.
With a frown, he pointed at the two and asked, "You two, what are you doing? How did you get in here?"
Dirk Carter, seeing this, pointed at the door in confusion and said, "The door was open, and the scenery here is nice, so we came in to take a look."
Estimating that the Daoist was still thinking about the young married woman inside, after all, being interrupted while "casting a spell" is quite frustrating.
He immediately said with disdain, "Go, go, go, leave quickly, no idlers allowed here."
"Oh, you must be Master Daoist, truly Master Daoist... I've met The Living Deity today..."
Dirk Carter shouted exaggeratedly.
Immediately, he warmly walked up to him.
Holding the Daoist's hand and sizing him up.
The Daoist, with a dignified appearance, could not lose composure in front of a believer.
He said, "Benefactors, I am indeed Zhuanxu, but I have an important matter to attend to; if you don't mind, how about you come back in an hour?"
"Master Daoist, I'm so excited, we came from out of town just to find you,"
Dirk Carter said excitedly.
The Daoist looked disdainful.
He asked, "Why are you two looking for the old Daoist?"
At this point, Elbert Rivers took a step forward and said arrogantly, "My big brother back in our hometown is also an expert in fortune-telling and divination. We heard that Master Daoist's skills are remarkable, so we came to challenge you."
Whoa, running into a challenger in such an event?
The Daoist naturally felt disdainful.
He was just about to refuse.
At that moment, the door of the house behind him opened.
The young married woman, now dressed, inexplicably walked out.
In such a setting, the Daoist naturally couldn't lose face; after all, once word of this spread, if it gets out that he was afraid of a challenge, how would he continue to scam people?
On top of that, the commotion in the yard was so loud.
It had also attracted some outside believers and junior Daoists.
In the blink of an eye, fifteen or sixteen people had already gathered in the garden.
"A person of the faith should not be overly aggressive, but if you two benefactors insist on having a contest with the old Daoist, it's not impossible. Tell me, how do you want to compete?"
The Daoist stroked his beard and said, proudly standing tall in front of everyone.
It's rare to see someone dare to challenge Master Daoist. Such a scene sparked quite the discussion; of course, in their eyes, Dirk Carter and Elbert Rivers were just here for a laugh.
Dirk Carter smiled slightly.
He said, "I've heard that Master Daoist is most adept at fortune-telling and divination, so let's compete in what you're best at. You divine for me, I'll divine for you, and we'll see whose prediction comes true."
"Alright."
The Daoist confidently agreed.
With a wave of his hand,
two junior Daoists brought over a table.
Complete with brushes, ink, paper, and inkstones, along with tortoise shells, copper coins, and other divination tools.
"Benefactor, do you need the old Daoist to prepare some ritual tools for you?"
The Daoist asked disdainfully, seeing Dirk Carter empty-handed.
Dirk Carter waved his hand and said, "No need, I can simply divine using my fingers, I don't need any external objects."
Such arrogance.
At this point, the Daoist could almost be certain that this young man in front of him was just a fraud, coming to Pearson Temple to compete, likely just to leech off his fame.
Thinking to hold off the situation first.
After the contest, he could settle accounts with these two without hurry.
"Alright then, let's begin. Will the benefactor go first, or should the old Daoist?"
The Daoist asked.
Dirk Carter said, "Master Daoist's reputation is like a cauldron, so you can go first."
Finished speaking,
he picked up the brush from the table and wrote down his birthdate and time.
The Daoist put on a show.
First, he placed three copper coins into the tortoise shell, pretended to shake it, then poured out the coins, pondered for a moment, and said, "The hexagram shows that the benefactor is proud and has a dominating presence, but lives in poverty, frequently hitting walls. The fire element is too strong in your life. If you can restrain it, you'll achieve something; otherwise, if not restrained, you'll burn with anxiety, and the outcome won't be good."
"What nonsense, vague statements, and you call that fortune-telling? Let me do it. Write down your birthdate and time, will you?"
Upon hearing this, Dirk Carter laughed heartily.
The believers nearby also had their critiques.
"This kid is quite arrogant; you can tell he lacks real skills."
"Exactly, I think the Master Daoist's words were spot on; this guy is just a fraud."
"..."
Such remarks were incessant.
Seeing everyone was on his side, the Daoist felt even more smug.
With a grand flourish.
He wrote down his birthdate and time.
He said coldly, "Please, benefactor."
Without even looking, Dirk Carter raised his hand, mimicking gestures from the movies with his five fingers, sometimes frowning, sometimes relaxed, then shouted loudly and looked coldly at the Daoist, saying, "Master Daoist, I divined that in a few hours, you'll face a jail sentence."
As soon as he finished speaking,
the Daoist burst into laughter.
He said, "Benefactor, we monks value compassion. You've come to provoke, and I won't blame you, but if you spread nonsense in front of everyone, don't blame me for being rude. Somebody, escort this fraud out!"
With this order,
four or five junior Daoists stood out from the crowd.
But Dirk Carter remained calm and composed.
He asked, "It seems Master Daoist doesn't believe?"
"Hahaha... Even if you said I might catch a cold or fever, that's something that could happen, but jail time, you really have the imagination. I don't want to waste any more time on you. Be quick and leave, or it'll be you who ends up embarrassed."
"Oh! If Master Daoist believes, I have a way to avert the disaster, but since you don't, I can only express regret."
Finished speaking, Dirk Carter glanced at Elbert Rivers.
Elbert Rivers nodded, pulled out his phone, and made a call.
"Come in."
Shortly after hanging up,
swift footsteps were heard from the corridor behind.
Everyone turned to look.
At the entrance of the courtyard, a line of police officers appeared.
The one in front walked in and directly saluted Dirk Carter, loudly saying, "Manuel Brooks from the Criminal Investigation Team of the Upper Lake District Police Precinct, reporting to Secretary General Carter as ordered."
Dirk Carter nodded.
He gave a signal to Elbert Rivers.
Elbert Rivers handed the DV camera to Manuel Brooks.
He said, "The evidence is here."
Manuel Brooks didn't even look at it and directly handed the DV camera to an officer behind him.
Then he waved his arm and said,
"Arrest him!"
Two fully armed police officers rushed up, grabbed the Daoist's shoulders, and with a click, cuffed him with handcuffs.
The Daoist was dumbfounded.
He hadn't even registered what was happening.
Feeling the cold metal of the handcuffs, he immediately struggled, panicked and said, "On what grounds are you arresting me? On what grounds? Let me go! Release me immediately!"
