A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 1120 - 1120

Dustin Quill is a cadre managed by the province, so naturally he isn't restrained by Dirk Carter.

But after all, he is the deputy mayor in charge of agriculture and rural development, and looking at the current situation, if any accountability is pursued, he'll surely have to bear some responsibility.

However, his reaction was quick.

He immediately put on a distressed and angry look, stomped his foot, and shouted, "What the hell is the leadership of Riverwood District doing, damn it, Little Lu, quickly call Frederick Eames and have him get over here immediately."

He was calling Little Lu.

That's his secretary.

He deliberately showed emotional indignation to demonstrate his ignorance of the matter.

Just at that moment.

Elbert Rivers walked in from outside, came directly in front of the three leaders, and said, "Secretary General Carter, the people from Riverwood District have arrived."

Dirk Carter and Lane Quincy exchanged a glance.

Lane Quincy said, "Let's go hear their excuses."

Although it was phrased humorously.

No one could laugh at it.

On the flat ground where the unfinished building stood.

Four cars also arrived.

Once the cars were parked steadily.

Frederick Eames quickly opened the car door and jogged over to the three leaders.

Coming up.

He first shook hands with Lane Quincy, greeted him, then Dirk Carter and Dustin Quill.

Even though Dustin Quill was gnashing his teeth just a minute ago.

When he saw Frederick Eames, he didn't say a word.

It was still Dirk Carter who spoke first, saying, "Secretary Eames, we've come to Riverwood District for a survey. Hope we're not disrupting your work?"

"Not at all, I'm more than happy to have the leaders here to guide our work."

Frederick Eames said.

Seeing his composure, it was clear he had prepared his response on the way here.

"Alright, with Secretary Eames saying this, I'm relieved. Come on, Secretary Eames, show us around."

Dirk Carter said.

This was a wilderness area.

Apart from the unfinished building in front, there was nowhere to go.

Dirk Carter said this to see how Frederick Eames would handle the situation next.

He thought Eames would be nervous.

Unexpectedly, there wasn't a hint of it.

He said frankly, "Alright, leaders this way please. We've got a thorny issue here in Riverwood District. I've been thinking about how to report it to you. Since you're already aware, I'll give a post-event report."

"Oh? What issue?"

Dirk Carter asked knowingly.

Frederick Eames pointed at the unfinished building of Verdant Court and said, "Leaders, look over here. This Verdant Court development has been unfinished for over three years. The developer is Grandview Realty Co., Ltd., the CEO is Dean Ross. The district committee and government have coordinated about this, but Dean Ross has run away, leaving the district in a tough spot, not knowing what to do."

He sure is good at passing the buck.

Right off the bat, he pushed all the responsibility onto the developer.

"From what you said, you're aware of the situation here?"

Lane Quincy asked.

Frederick Eames sighed.

He said, "As the leader of the area, how could I not know? I've been coordinating to resolve this, but Dean Ross is a scoundrel; he ran off long ago and can't be found. We're at our wit's end too."

Lane Quincy wanted to rebut.

But Dirk Carter interrupted him.

He laughed and said, "Alright, as long as Secretary Eames knows the situation, it's fine."

After saying this.

He checked the time.

And said, "It's about lunchtime, is anybody hungry?"

Thinking he successfully dodged the issue.

Frederick Eames quickly said, "Leaders, please come back with us for lunch. I've already asked the canteen to prepare some simple meals."

Dirk Carter waved his hand and said, "It's half an hour to the district committee, too troublesome to go back. Secretary Quincy, why don't we find a place nearby to grab a bite? Secretary Eames, if you're not hungry, we can continue our work first."

The sooner to leave this place the better.

Frederick Eames quickly touched his stomach, saying, "Had a meeting early in the morning, skipped breakfast, I'm already hungry."

"Alright, since Secretary Eames is hungry too, let's grab a bite here."

After saying this.

Dirk Carter and Lane Quincy turned and walked into the iron wall enclosure.

Frederick Eames was stunned.

Even though he felt tense, he couldn't stay put since the leaders had gone in.

He followed them inside the iron wall enclosure.

Once inside.

A foul smell hit them head-on.

Flies buzzing everywhere, quite an annoyance.

Plus the sewage and trash on the ground, there was hardly a place to set foot.

Though the environment was unbearable.

If the leaders could endure it, what options did he have?

"Ma'am, could we trouble you for some lunch?"

Dirk Carter asked an elderly woman who was busy by an improvised stove.

Today's meal.

Dirk Carter had already arranged it with an aide.

So, the elderly woman naturally agreed, "Sure, of course, come on in."

At the elderly woman's invitation.

Dirk Carter, Lane Quincy, Dustin Quill, and Frederick Eames were invited into her iron room.

The room was as simple as could be.

No need to mention the flies and mosquitoes amid the 35-degree heat outside, making the place stifling and hot, and within minutes their entire bodies were drenched.

Once the four sat down.

Dirk Carter and Lane Quincy chatted cheerfully.

Frederick Eames, already overweight, was soon soaking with sweat.

But he dared not get up and leave, so he stayed firm.

After waiting about a few minutes.

The elderly woman brought four bowls of food.

Cooked with something unclear, sticky and looking hard to swallow.

"Ma'am, what's this?"

Dirk Carter asked.

The elderly woman laughed sincerely, "Nothing special, it's corn mush we eat, mixed with a bit of wild greens."

"Ma'am, this is an eco-friendly treat! You eat this regularly?"

Dirk Carter asked.

The elderly woman nodded and said, "We don't have a home, land, or money, just grateful to not go hungry with this."

"No complaints, ma'am. It's good, if you can eat it, we can surely eat too."

After saying this.

He pushed his bowl of mush towards Frederick Eames and said, "Secretary Eames, didn't you say you skipped breakfast? Here, have mine too."

"No need, Secretary General Carter, you're too kind, my own bowl is enough."

Seeing a bowl of such food.

Frederick Eames felt nauseous.

He hadn't planned to touch his own bowl.

Let alone Dirk Carter handing him another.

Seeing the scene.

Lane Quincy pulled a stern face, asking, "What's wrong? Fellow Eames, do you find this unfit to eat? Or were you lying about being hungry just now?"

Frederick Eames knew if he refused, the three fierce stars before him would explode.

He quickly nodded, "I can eat, of course, I'll eat, right away."

After speaking.

He picked up his bowl.

Ignoring his stomach's strong objections, he started consuming it.
