A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1133 - 1133:
"It's not that your words don't carry weight, it's just..."
On the other end of the phone.
Eoin Sadler hadn't finished speaking.
Another voice interrupted.
"Minister Lewis, Doyle Paxton wasn't someone I was trying to catch; he turned himself in, so... directly releasing him doesn't seem quite right..."
Upon hearing this sentence.
Alexis Lewis froze.
The voice on the other end belonged to Dirk Carter.
She immediately recognized it.
Recalling how forcefully she had spoken to Eoin Sadler earlier.
Her tone shifted quickly, "Oh, it's Secretary General Carter, you're aware that the bureaucratic world is full of nuances, right? His family approached me, and I thought it wasn't a big deal. Since Secretary General Carter is personally handling the case, then just let it proceed as it should."
"Alright, with Minister Lewis's approval, my mind is at ease."
Dirk Carter replied cheerfully.
He hung up the phone.
Alexis Lewis's mind began to spin with confusion.
What was going on?
Things were not supposed to unfold like this.
Everything she did was to ensure Dirk Carter investigates Case 626, so why is Dirk Carter now targeting her?
Doyle Paxton was her right-hand man.
If this arm was severed, many of her unsavory dealings would come to a halt.
What should she do? What should she do? What should she do?
She asked herself three times in succession.
Finally, at the last moment, she thought of a solution.
Once again, she took out her phone and dialed a number.
As soon as the call connected.
Alexis Lewis eagerly said, "There's been an incident, Doyle Paxton has been arrested."
"I've received the news on my end. What are you planning to do?"
Asked a man on the phone.
Alexis Lewis paused for a moment.
Then said, "You know what Doyle Paxton's done; once exposed, we'll all be finished, so I don't care what method you use, you must eliminate him."
There was a brief silence on the other end.
Then said, "I'll find a way then."
After saying this, the call was hung up.
The remedial measures have been initiated.
The anxious mood was finally somewhat restored.
An hour later.
At the entrance of the Upper Lake District Police Precinct.
Three police cars drove in one after another.
From the first police car, a middle-aged man in uniform got out.
As he appeared.
Eoin Sadler, who had been waiting at the entrance, came down the stairs with a cheerful demeanor.
He approached the man, reached out his hand, and said, "Hello, Chief Sawyer."
The man's expression was solemn; he merely nodded slightly.
Who is Chief Sawyer?
None other than Grady Sawyer, Vice Director of the Silverwood City Police Department and Chief of the Criminal Investigations Unit.
He was also the suspect reported in Case 626.
"Chief Sawyer, what brings you here today?"
Eoin Sadler inquired.
Grady Sawyer glanced behind him.
His subordinate handed over a piece of paper.
Grady Sawyer received it and immediately slapped it onto Eoin Sadler.
He said seriously, "This is an edict from the city bureau; I'm here to take Doyle Paxton away."
At this moment, Eoin Sadler's face showed signs of difficulty.
He stated, "Chief Sawyer, it's not that I'm refusing you, but Doyle Paxton's case is already being handled by our precinct. If you take him away now, we'll have a huge mess..."
"Eoin Sadler, this is a direct order, not a negotiation. Don't mess with me. Have your people bring Doyle Paxton out immediately, or I'll go in and get him myself."
Grady Sawyer stated definitively.
Typically submissive, Eoin Sadler.
Today, he seemed to have transformed.
He shook his head and said, "No, Chief Sawyer, you can't take him."
"Are you aware of what you're saying? Are you intending to violate the city bureau's order?"
Grady Sawyer never expected Eoin Sadler to be so adamant.
"Since we arrested him, we're responsible for handling the case. Though the city bureau will take over eventually, it must be after we've processed the case here."
Eoin Sadler stated.
Grady Sawyer was known for his temper.
He pushed Eoin Sadler aside.
Turning to his men, he said, "Follow me in to get the person."
He had come with a team of ten officers.
Those ten heavily-armed criminal police officers followed him towards the precinct building's entrance.
Just as he was about to step into the building.
At the doorway, a row of police officers rushed forward, blocking the entrance; leading them was Precinct Detective Unit Commander Manuel Brooks.
He had only eleven officers.
Whereas Manuel Brooks had at least twenty.
Each was fully armed.
In terms of both numbers and presence, they were superior.
"Manuel Brooks, what is the meaning of this?"
Grady Sawyer asked coldly.
Manuel Brooks responded calmly.
He said, "Chief Sawyer, I mean no harm. Chief Eoin has already stated, Doyle Paxton, the suspect, cannot be taken away by you, so I believe there's no need for you to go inside."
"Damn it, is the Upper Lake Precinct staging a revolt? Get out of the way immediately, or I'll arrest you this instant."
Grady Sawyer was visibly furious.
He spoke without regard.
"Once this case is over, do as you see fit, but today, you won't be able to arrest me."
Manuel Brooks stated firmly.
"You want to force me to act, is that it? Get out of the way!"
Grady Sawyer finally couldn't restrain himself.
He reached for his holster.
Took out his service weapon.
Without hesitation, pointed it at Manuel Brooks's forehead.
Manuel Brooks didn't even blink.
He said, "Chief Sawyer, like I said, even if you shoot me today, I won't move."
"You think I won't fire?"
Grady Sawyer was incensed.
He roared at Manuel Brooks.
"I bet you won't fire."
Amid the tense stand-off.
Suddenly, a voice was heard from the rear.
Grady Sawyer's fury erupted once again.
Swiftly, he aimed the gun at the speaker.
But he paused for just a second, then quickly lowered the weapon.
His face showed fear, and he respectfully addressed, "Secretary General Carter, what brings you here?"
Indeed.
Standing behind him was Dirk Carter.
Dirk Carter smiled slightly and said, "Chief Sawyer, don't be so angry; we're all on the same side. Whoever handles this case will do it right, won't they? Doyle Paxton isn't running anywhere; after the precinct wraps it up, you can bring him over later."
"Secretary General Carter, I heard your side was handling Doyle Paxton's attempted case, while I've been working on the completed assault case. Considering the severity, the city bureau should be overseeing this, and from the hierarchy standpoint, the city bureau does take precedence over the precinct, so my request is procedurally sound."
Facing Dirk Carter.
Grady Sawyer maintained a polite demeanor.
Dirk Carter chuckled.
Then said, "Chief Sawyer does have a point, but the precinct is indeed handling a deliberate injury, forced prostitution, and gang rape case. Considering the nature of the case, the precinct's matter seems far more severe and urgent."
No sooner had he spoken.
Grady Sawyer froze.
He involuntarily blurted out, "Gang rape? What gang rape case?"
