A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 1134 - 1134

Dirk Carter pointed to the bottom of the steps.

Several police cars parked there had their doors opened.

Rows of people were being escorted out.

Leading the group was the familiar face of Doyle Paxton's sidekick, Iron.

Even without counting each individual, there were at least twenty to thirty people arrested.

"This morning, our precinct received a report from a female colleague, saying she went to Platinum One Club for a job interview and was gang-raped. There are accomplices, lookouts, and direct participators involved, while Doyle Paxton is the instigator. Captain Sawyer, as the captain of the City Bureau's Criminal Investigation Team, you should be aware, if cases like this are not handled swiftly and seriously, the social impact could be enormous, right?"

Dirk Carter spoke deliberately and calmly.

Grady Sawyer's heart, however, was racing.

Before coming here, he already had a plan.

Taking Doyle Paxton away shouldn't be a problem; even Dirk Carter couldn't go against procedural protocol.

Even if the task force needed to gather evidence of Doyle Paxton's crimes, it wouldn't act so quickly. As long as he held Doyle Paxton, the precinct wouldn't have a pretext for action.

But now, the situation had changed.

The task force already had ample reasons to detain Doyle Paxton.

Trying to take him away seemed increasingly impossible.

"Oh, I see, then I was presumptuous. The case is significant. How about my team stays and assists the precinct in the investigation?"

Grady Sawyer was quick to react.

Immediately, he changed his tone.

Dirk Carter smiled slightly and said to Eoin Sadler, "Chief Sadler, it seems Chief Sawyer doesn't quite believe in your abilities?"

The words seemed like a jest.

But were actually a reminder.

Upon hearing this, Eoin Sadler quickly waved his hand and said, "Captain Sawyer, I appreciate your goodwill. There are plenty of cases at the City Bureau, and our precinct's Criminal Investigation Team is quite busy. I've already called in reinforcements from the Anti-Triad, Security, and National Protection units, so there's no problem; we can manage."

Grady Sawyer was filled with hatred.

Almost to the point where his teeth were itching.

If Dirk Carter weren't present.

He could have scolded Eoin Sadler severely, but that wasn't possible now, especially with the Secretary General present; he didn't dare.

"Alright, then. I'll take my leave."

Eaten a loss.

Grady Sawyer knew staying wouldn't accomplish anything.

He greeted briefly and prepared to leave.

Just at that moment.

Two officers from the Commission suddenly blocked his path.

"Secretary General Carter, what's the meaning of this?"

Grady Sawyer asked, puzzled.

Dirk Carter kept his calm smile and said, "Captain Sawyer, there are some matters our Commission needs to discuss with you. I've been busy, and didn't have time. As they say, 'strike while the iron is hot,' so since you're here today, why don't you go with my people for routine procedures, to cooperate with the Commission's work..."

For some reason.

Grady Sawyer's heart started to pound.

A strong sense of foreboding loomed over him.

As his hand moved to his holster.

A hand suddenly pressed down on his wrist.

It was none other than Dirk Carter's secretary, Elbert Rivers.

Elbert Rivers swiftly removed his holster.

Chuckling, he said, "Captain Sawyer, I'll handle the submission of your firearm."

These words actually saved face for Grady Sawyer.

He clearly saw Grady Sawyer had intended to draw his gun, and these words instantly quelled his urge to resist.

"Oh, sure, I'll trouble you, Secretary Rivers."

Grady Sawyer said.

Elbert Rivers immediately handed the gun to Manuel Brooks, saying, "No trouble at all, Captain Sawyer..."

The gesture just now took only a moment.

But those who saw it felt chills down their spines.

Everyone knew Grady Sawyer's true intention.

If Elbert Rivers hadn't been prepared, the consequences could have been disastrous.

With "escort" from two Commission officers.

Grady Sawyer was taken into a temporary Commission office set up in the precinct.

This signified another significant figure had walked into the trap.

"Secretary General Carter, how should we interrogate?"

Athena Meyer stepped forward, asking Dirk Carter.

"No interrogation for now, just detain him."

Dirk Carter replied.

Athena Meyer paused, asking, "Not interrogate? Then we can't hold him for long."

"No worries, twenty-four hours is enough. As key figures disappear one by one, those behind them will be anxious. We'll wait here, the next one should appear soon."

Dirk Carter said confidently.

Athena Meyer had witnessed Dirk Carter's brilliance.

Naturally, she knew he already had a strategy in place.

She nodded and said, "Alright, we'll do as you say."

...

Around five in the afternoon.

Municipal Committee Building.

Propaganda Department office.

A minute ago, Alexis Lewis heard the news that Grady Sawyer had also been taken by Dirk Carter.

Now things were dire.

She was completely thrown off track.

Could it be that Dirk Carter had already seen through her plan?

Her mind repeatedly questioned itself.

But this assumption was immediately dismissed.

That's impossible.

Her plan had no flaws, everyone who needed to keep quiet had done so; Dirk Carter couldn't extract the truth from the deceased.

If Dirk Carter didn't know about her plan.

Why were Doyle Paxton and Grady Sawyer consecutively arrested?

It didn't make sense.

No matter how hard she thought, she couldn't figure it out.

After pacing countless circles in the office.

She finally couldn't resist.

Took out her phone, dialed a number.

The call was quickly answered.

On the other end, a man's voice said, "I've heard about the happenings in Silverwood City, I'm already on my way there; don't worry."

Upon hearing this voice.

Alexis Lewis' frantic heart calmed considerably.

"Is it possible that Dirk Carter knows about our plan?"

She asked, somewhat skeptically.

The call was silent for a moment.

Then said, "That's impossible, I didn't expect him to break the norm like this, but it's okay, he just reported to me, I have ample reason to appear, I can handle it."

"Alright, my entire hope now rests with you."

Alexis Lewis sighed heavily, saying.

"Got it."

On the other end, the man responded and hung up.

Alexis Lewis walked to the window.

Gazing at the distant sky filled with sunset colors.

Reassuring herself, "It's fine; it'll surely be fine. I'll definitely get through this."

At six-thirty in the evening.

Upper Lake District Police Precinct Director's office.

Dirk Carter was discussing the case progress with Eoin Sadler.

At this moment, there was a knock on the door.

Elbert Rivers peeked in, saying, "Leader, Vice Secretary Alexander Camden of the State Commission for Discipline Inspection is here."
