A Bumpy Road to Power
Chapter 1200 - 1200
Ellery Langdon didn't like being ordered around.
But at this point.
He had no choice but to do as he was told.
His eyes rolled once.
He said, "Fine, wait a second, I don't have it here, I'll go get one outside."
With that.
He left Dirk Carter behind and walked out of the office.
Two or three minutes later.
Ellery Langdon came back.
He set an ashtray down in front of him.
After sitting, he said, "Alright, lay out your conditions."
Dirk Carter gave a faint smile.
He held up one finger.
He said, "First, shut down the pirated game Three Kingdoms Battle and compensate Joywave Technologies for all the losses you've caused."
Then he raised a second finger and said, "Second, use public media to issue an apology to Joywave Technologies."
The third finger came up as he said, "You personally apologize to Joywave Technologies' President Seth and promise that from now on you will no longer infringe on Joywave Technologies' interests."
"You done?"
Ellery Langdon asked.
Dirk Carter nodded and said, "That's all I can think of for now. If there's more, I'll add it later."
"Okay, you're done, now it's my turn."
Ellery Langdon replied.
"I've got three conditions too. First, Three Kingdoms Chronicles is formally taken off the shelves. Second, Joywave Technologies is completely shut down starting right now. Third, you and Seth Dixon apologize to me in person. Do you think those terms are reasonable?"
Just moments ago he'd been helpless.
But in just a few minutes.
Ellery Langdon's attitude did a one-eighty.
And behind those gold-rimmed glasses, his gaze had turned dark and shadowy.
Dirk Carter, hearing this.
Still didn't show the slightest shock.
Not even a ripple.
He laughed and said, "Looks like our President Ellery already has a countermeasure ready."
Ellery Langdon casually crossed one leg over the other.
Leaning his body back into the sofa.
He said, "Me, I've never been afraid of running into problems. Sometimes when you can't solve a problem, you solve the person who created it. If you'd stayed out of sight, sure, I wouldn't have had a way to deal with you. But since you've delivered yourself to my door, I'm not going to be polite."
"Oh? And what is President Ellery planning to do?"
Dirk Carter asked.
Ellery Langdon let out a cold laugh.
Then snapped his fingers.
With a clang.
The office door swung open.
A bald middle-aged man came in with seven or eight guys who looked like his punks.
In a rush, they surrounded Dirk Carter.
Ellery Langdon stood up.
He rested his hand on the bald man's shoulder.
Pointing at that vicious-looking face, he said, "Mr. Carter, let me introduce him. This is the boss of our Pavilion District, people call him The Beard. This guy's my brother. I've got a pretty good temper, but his is more volatile. If someone pisses him off, breaking hands and feet is a common occurrence."
"So you're planning to have this Beard give me a beating, then I bow my head, and the man causing you problems is considered dealt with?"
Dirk Carter asked.
"Can't I?"
Ellery Langdon shrugged flamboyantly.
He said, "That's just how I am. I get to mess with you, but you don't get to mess with me. I don't care how capable you are, convincing Wave and Seapro to cancel their cooperation with me. In this building, what I say goes."
Dirk Carter, hearing this.
Slowly stood up.
He said, "Got it. Whether we can cooperate or whether the company can keep developing, none of that matters. What matters is nobody can afford to offend you. Anyone who offends you pays a price. Is that about right?"
"Hahaha, you're very smart… but figuring it out now is too late. So, tell me—keep a finger, or keep a toe, you choose. Either is fine."
Ellery Langdon laughed, full of smugness.
Dirk Carter shook his head.
He said, "I don't feel like keeping either."
"Then it's not up to you. Beard, this guy's all yours."
Ellery Langdon patted The Beard on the shoulder.
The Beard straightened up, puffed out his chest, putting on a ferocious look as he said, "Leave him to me, brother."
He was just about to raise his arm and rally the boys.
Dirk Carter put out his hand.
He said, "Hold on."
Ellery Langdon thought Dirk Carter had chickened out.
He laughed, "What's wrong? Regretting it?"
"Not quite. I just think before Brother Beard makes a move, I should show you something."
"What?"
The Beard asked suspiciously.
Dirk Carter pointed at the floor-to-ceiling window.
He said, "Go to the window and take a look downstairs."
The Beard curled his lip, giving a contemptuous laugh.
He said, "Alright then, let's see what tricks you've got."
He strode straight to the window.
Looked down at the parking lot below.
And was instantly dumbfounded.
In the parking lot below, more than a dozen black sedans were packed tightly together.
The moment he appeared at the window.
The doors of those cars all opened at once.
From each car.
Four men stepped out.
There were easily forty or fifty of them.
That wasn't even the scariest part.
The scariest part was the back seat of the first car.
Out stepped a middle-aged man in a traditional Chinese jacket.
The man walked to the front of the car, leaned his hip against the door, and the moment he tilted his head up, The Beard literally stopped breathing.
Th-that's Cosimo Griffin, the famous boss of Ronan City, isn't it?
Cosimo Griffin's face.
Anyone who's mixed around Ronan City would recognize it.
Cosimo Griffin raised his hand.
Waved at The Beard and even gave him a greeting smile.
Even though it wasn't crystal clear.
He knew these people had been brought here by Dirk Carter.
A jolt of raw electricity shot through his brain.
In an instant.
He made up his mind.
He turned around.
Bowed to Dirk Carter, swallowed hard, and said, "C–Carter bro, I'm really sorry, I didn't know you were… you were Brother Cosimo's guy… I've seriously overstepped, seriously overstepped…"
Ellery Langdon was completely stunned.
He paused, then asked The Beard, "What the hell are you doing? Aren't you my brother?"
The Beard didn't even dare look at him, just kept his eyes locked on Dirk Carter.
Waiting for further instructions.
Dirk Carter merely smiled faintly.
He said, "If you didn't know, I'm not going to hold it against you. Alright, you're done here. Go back where you came from."
"Got it, thanks Carter bro, thanks Carter bro…"
The Beard bowed again.
Ignoring Ellery Langdon's questions and tugging, he bolted out of there like he'd just been granted amnesty, practically jogging away in a panic.
The forceful intimidation from moments before.
Was instantly shattered.
Inside the office.
Once again only two people were left.
Dirk Carter turned to Ellery Langdon and shrugged, saying, "Looks like I get to keep both my fingers and my toes."
Ellery Langdon was beyond shocked.
He froze for a moment.
Then recovered again.
With disdain he said, "Didn't expect you had some juice after all. If the underworld doesn't work, we'll go the legit route. There's bound to be a game you don't know how to play, right?"
Dirk Carter glanced at his watch.
Sat back down again.
He said, "Originally, I promised someone I wouldn't play these kinds of games with you. But since you're still not thinking straight, I'll help clear your head today. Come on, whatever game you want to play, I'll play along…"
