A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 1201 - 1201

The words were barely finished.

At the office entrance.

A cacophony of footsteps echoed.

Immediately thereafter.

A man in police uniform charged in.

As soon as he entered, he asked Ellery Langdon, "Where's the man, Mr. Langdon?"

Ellery Langdon pointed to Dirk Carter sitting on the sofa and said, "Look, over there, quite bold, claiming he has connections everywhere and can play however he likes."

"Wow, such a big deal on Pavilion District's turf? Let me see what's going on."

After saying that.

The policeman rolled up his sleeves and walked over to Dirk Carter.

Before he reached him.

The policeman halted.

Paused in place, not daring to move.

"Hmm, isn't this Chase Perry? What happened? Couldn't make it in Brookfield District and got transferred to Pavilion District?"

Seeing this policeman, Dirk Carter smiled slightly and asked.

Who was this policeman?

The former deputy director of Ronan City's Brookfield District Police Bureau.

Back when Dirk Carter had a conflict with Callum Hamilton, Chase Perry was called by the then City Government Secretary Brennan Ford to assist, but later suffered because of Yale Quill's interference.

Although they hadn't met in years.

Chase Perry remembered Dirk Carter's face vividly.

Moreover, he knew the latest city appointment, the man before him, Dirk Carter, though not yet in office, was the bona fide future mayor.

"Mr. Carter..."

Chase Perry was about to blurt out his title.

But was silenced by Dirk Carter's gesture.

He was too scared to continue speaking.

Swallowed nervously, turned to look at Ellery Langdon.

"What's wrong, Chief Perry?"

Ellery Langdon asked.

Chase Perry hesitated, glanced at Dirk Carter waiting for further instructions, who simply sat there nonchalantly, reluctantly said, "Mr. Langdon, this... I can't handle this, he hasn't committed a crime, how am I supposed to arrest him?"

"What do you mean? Chase Perry, I can't order you around, does my mom have to step in, right?"

Ellery Langdon frowned and said.

Chase Perry glanced at Dirk Carter, kindly reminded, "Mr. Langdon, I... I think you better not call District Secretary Langdon, no matter what conflict there is, stepping back can bring peace..."

"No way!"

Ellery Langdon stomped his foot.

Pointed at Chase Perry's nose, angrily said, "Oh, Chase Perry, all dignified normally, but dropping the ball at crucial moments, right? Okay, fine, you insist my mom steps in, right? I'll call her."

After saying this.

He took out his phone.

Chase Perry was anxious.

Dirk Carter had hinted he couldn't reveal his identity.

Yet he couldn't help but remind.

Standing there, neither talking nor staying silent felt right, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.

As he hesitated.

Ellery Langdon's call got through.

A minute later.

After finishing the call, Ellery Langdon returned.

Like lifting a heavy burden off, he sighed with relief.

Spoke to Dirk Carter, "Don't worry, I haven't used my trump card against you yet, just wait, you're in for it."

"You should have listened to Officer Perry, shouldn't have called your mom."

Dirk Carter said somewhat regretfully.

Ellery Langdon thought Dirk Carter was afraid.

Snorted coldly, "Realizing your mistake now? Too late, I've said, anyone who provokes me won't end well, you'll be no exception."

"Chase Perry, tell him."

Dirk Carter didn't want to linger.

Gestured to stunned Chase Perry beside him.

Chase Perry nodded repeatedly.

Went to Ellery Langdon's side, whispered something in his ear.

Ellery Langdon's eyes widened immediately.

Asked somewhat incredulously, "What? You say he's..."

He didn't finish, as Chase Perry had already nodded confirming.

Ellery Langdon gasped.

Re-evaluated Dirk Carter.

He could hardly believe this seemingly young man would be the next mayor of Ronan City.

His mother Clarissa Langdon was merely a district secretary.

In front of the mayor, there was a significant rank difference.

Even if she came, it wouldn't help at all.

"Mr. Langdon, I came here today offering an exit for you, before coming someone insisted I promise not to make things too hostile, it was you who escalated matters to this point, I still stand by those three conditions, if you accept, we can turn the page, if you refuse, we'll continue, I guarantee Seth Dixon's safety, no one can move him, even God can't!"

This was Dirk Carter's first stern warning after half an hour here.

And, he said it with a very severe tone.

Ellery Langdon shivered.

This moment he finally realized he had no chance.

"Mr. Carter... Mayor Carter... I..."

Seeing the fire in Ellery Langdon's eyes dim.

Dirk Carter extended his hand, stopping him from speaking further.

"Honestly, I still prefer your defiant look just now, we aren't enemies, there's no need for a life-and-death struggle, let's conduct business properly, be righteous, I won't trouble you further, how you plan to proceed is up to you, let's leave it at this today, I should be going."

After saying this.

Dirk Carter stood up.

"Mayor Carter, I'll escort you..."

Chase Perry saw a chance to impress.

Immediately scampered up enthusiastically.

As the two left.

Ellery Langdon grabbed the ashtray from the table and hurled it at the floor-to-ceiling glass.

With a crash.

The ashtray shattered.

The tempered glass cracked with a fissure.

He clenched his fist, gritted his teeth and said, "Damn it, just a mayor, what's the big deal, wanting me to apologize, wishful thinking..."

After saying this.

His gaze turned sinister and sly.

Dirk Carter didn't know at this time.

Ellery Langdon was fundamentally twisted.

He acted without a normal person's reasoning.

It was his promise to Caden Dixon to go easy this time, which would later cause him great trouble, even affecting those around him.

Of course, that's a story for another time, for now we leave it unspoken.

After dealing with Kaleido Group.

Dirk Carter headed to the State Hospital.

Just entered the inpatient department.

Saw in the distance, Caden Dixon playing with Penny in a wheelchair.

Dorothy Zechariah stood nearby, watching them tenderly.

Seemed to have heard footsteps behind her.

Dorothy Zechariah turned around, saw Dirk Carter, quickly said, "Look, they're having so much fun?"

"Looks like Seth needs to hurry up and get married and have kids, with grandchildren around, Uncle Dixon won't be restless."

Dirk Carter said with some sentiment.

"Is everything sorted out?"

Dorothy Zechariah asked.

Dirk Carter nodded.

Said, "It's resolved, but, I just received a call from the organization department asking me to report tomorrow morning."

Dorothy Zechariah knew what he meant.

Smiled slightly.

Said, "You focus on work, don't worry, I'll come by every day for Uncle Dixon, he'll be fine."

"Honey, you're so good, you always know what I'm thinking."

Dirk Carter felt warm at heart hearing this.

Embraced Dorothy Zechariah's waist, mumbling.

Dorothy Zechariah gave a mischievous smile.

Said, "I've been this good, shouldn't you satisfy me tonight?"

"Again? I've been resting these days, haven't stopped for a single day, alright?"

Dirk Carter asked in surprise.

Dorothy Zechariah pouted, a bit mournfully said, "You're just a magnet for women, if I don't exhaust you, who knows who you might stray with?"

"How could that be? It never happened before, alright..."

Dirk Carter gave a random defense.

But this defense was rather guilty.
