Chapter 83: Inner Weakness
The pitch black surroundings were gone and it was replaced instead with brilliant brightness.
Bai He looked around, only to find that Ye Shiyuan and Xu Feng were nowhere to be seen.
He was not particularly surprised.
This trial was an individual trial.
Every person would face a unique challenge of their own.
No one could help another.
They could only rely on their own efforts to pass the trial.
Bai He immediately summoned the Xuantian Barrier to envelop himself.
Something seemed to approach him and emitting faint golden sparks of light...
Only to be rebounded away.
"Host, any spells cast upon you will completely disappear. You could simply wait here for Ye Shiyuan and Xu Feng to return."
"I’m a bit worried right now about whether something might happen to the two of them."
Mo Zhu spoke considerately. "If you’re uneasy, I can provide a real-time display of their situations."
Bai He sat down and stopped wandering about. "Then what are you waiting for?"
Two screens immediately appeared before him, showing Ye Shiyuan and Xu Feng respectively.
The expressions on both of their faces were filled with astonishment.
They had likely not expected things to turn out this way.
As Bai He watched, a man suddenly appeared beside Ye Shiyuan.
Why did that man look so much like him?
This trial tested one’s inner weakness.
Could it be that Ye Shiyuan’s weakness was related to him?
...
"Master, why did you and Junior Brother suddenly disappear?"
Bai He smiled faintly. "Shiyuan, do you think this place is nice?"
Ye Shiyuan looked at the beautiful scenery before him and nodded. "Yes."
"I think it’s very nice too. Shiyuan, here there is no Lingguang Sect, no one else at all, it’s only the two of us. We can stay here forever and never go anywhere."
Ye Shiyuan paused for a moment and a hint of surprise crossing his face as he turned to look at Bai He.
Bai He’s smile deepened and suddenly, she slowly reached out and held his hand. "Ye Shiyuan... will you, please?"
Ye Shiyuan’s lips moved slightly...
Meanwhile, on the other side, Bai He’s heart seemed to leap into his throat.
Could Ye Shiyuan really agree so easily?
Did he have no sense at all?
Would he really say such a thing?
He wished he could just think carefully for once.
He watched that smiling Bai He anxiously, wishing he could rush forward, yet all he could do was sit there feeling powerless as he staring at them.
That Bai He over there continued to smile, his expression so gentle and beautiful, it was something Ye Shiyuan had never seen before.
For a brief instant, his heart almost faltered.
"No... my Master wouldn’t do this," Ye Shiyuan suddenly spoke, his voice hoarse. "You’re not him."
Absolutely not.
In Ye Shiyuan’s heart, Bai He was kind and clever.
Sometimes he acted like a child and at other times, he carried a certain maturity and gravity.
No matter which version of Bai He it was, it had left a deep impression in Ye Shiyuan’s heart.
Yet the person before him, though identical to Bai He even his smile sweeter than the real Bai He was still unfamiliar.
This was a stranger.
This was not the Bai He he remembered.
"Ye Shiyuan, what are you saying? I am your Master. I am Bai He," he answered while still smiling.
There was no falseness in his expression.
It was simply that he had been created from an illusion. To him, he was truly Bai He.
He was the Bai He in Ye Shiyuan’s memory, manifested in this form with a single purpose: to make Ye Shiyuan stay.
As long as Ye Shiyuan agreed and nodded, he would remain here for the rest of his life, not only unable to leave, but he would also die a miserable tragic death.
Bai He exhaled in relief.
Ye Shiyuan was still Ye Shiyuan.
He had not been fooled.
But compared to Ye Shiyuan, in Xu Feng’s vision, the figure that appeared was indeed Ye Shiyuan.
This left Bai He somewhat perplexed.
Why had things turned out this way?
"As long as you kill Ye Shiyuan, your Master will have only you as a disciple."
The words seemed to echo in the air, pressing directly into Xu Feng’s heart and causing a momentary confusion.
Ye Shiyuan was bound, even unconscious.
If he were to be killed, it would be effortless.
Bai He frowned as she watched the scene unfold.
Could it be... that Xu Feng felt jealousy toward Ye Shiyuan?
Xu Feng slowly stepped in front of Ye Shiyuan and suddenly raising the sword in his hand.
Bai He didn’t even dare to watch that moment.
However, Xu Feng’s sword did not harm Ye Shiyuan, it merely cut through the ropes that bound him.
"You’re wrong. I am jealous of Senior Brother. I’m jealous that he can be this strong. I want to become that strong too. But I never once thought of killing him. If anyone harms someone from my Baize Peak, I would never let it go," Xu Feng admitted.
Bai He exhaled in relief.
It was healthy competition, after all.
He had thought so, considering how close Xu Feng and Ye Shiyuan were in the original story, it made no sense that it would escalate to the point of trying to kill one another.
The two screens in front of her disappeared.
Mo Zhu then spoke up, "Host, they are about to return. You need to be prepared."
Bai He nodded and took a deep breath.
He would not let them know what had just occurred.
Soon after, Xu Feng and Ye Shiyuan appeared together before Bai He.
"You’re back."
Both looked somewhat bewildered, clearly not yet accustomed to the situation.
"Master... I’m back?" Xu Feng lowered his gaze to look at his own hands and pinched his palm.
A sharp pain immediately shot through him, he really was back.
Fool, why didn’t you pinch earlier?
