Chapter 1563: Chapter 1553: One Daughter, a Hundred Suitors?
The small town was bustling at night, adorned with lanterns and decorations as if it were New Year’s.
Many shops had colorful lights hanging outside. Young men and women strolled along the streets, holding flower lanterns, small hands intertwined, carrying sunflowers, exchanging glances filled with affection.
It is said that this tradition has been passed down from ancient times, and only this remote town still preserves it; tourists find it fascinating.
The innkeeper followed behind Jiang Jingheng, hesitated for a moment, and asked, "Sir, would you like to buy a flower lantern?"
Jiang Jingheng didn’t speak and continued walking forward, his hat brim pulled so low that others couldn’t see his facial expression at all.
The innkeeper was used to his quiet demeanor, and explained on his own, "There’s a custom here that on the night of the Qixi Festival, men confess their feelings to their beloved girl with a flower lantern. If the girl is interested, she will accept the flower lantern, give the man a sunflower, and they will wander together."
He thought that after saying this, Jiang Jingheng might be somewhat tempted, but to his surprise, Jiang Jingheng’s pace quickened.
The innkeeper felt very conflicted—had he listened or not?
Seeing him walk farther away, he hurriedly chased after him.
Perhaps due to Jiang Jingheng’s towering height, he walked with a unique elegance, combined with the mystery of his face being hidden by a hat, drawing many glances his way.
But he walked swiftly, seemingly in a hurry, not sparing a glance at the people around him.
After rounding the street, Jiang Jingheng suddenly stopped, gazing at the burning bonfire ahead, where many people had gathered, seemingly engaged in some activity.
Someone was speaking in dialect, but he couldn’t understand; most were young men and women, including tourists and locals, men holding flower lanterns, women holding sunflowers.
Suddenly, those people dispersed, heading in all directions.
"Quick, quick, quick, let’s see if anyone is confessing." A girl eagerly pulled her boyfriend forward.
"Just look over there." Her boyfriend tugged her arm, pointing at a couple nearby.
The boy looked young, around twenty, handing a flower lantern to the girl in front of him, saying something unknown, and the girl bashfully accepted the flower lantern, then handed him the sunflower in her hand, seeming too shy to meet his gaze.
The boy took it, immediately grasping the girl’s hand, and they walked forward together, with the boy occasionally speaking, making the girl shy.
"Wow, so romantic." A girl said enviously, then commanded her boyfriend, "I want to be confessed to just like her, hurry up."
"You’re so troublesome. We’ve been together for so long, why confess?"
"What do you mean, get me and then stop cherishing me?" The girl was clearly upset.
"No, when did I ever say that? Don’t put words in my mouth."
"So will you confess or not?"
"Yes, yes, of course I will. Babe, don’t be mad." The boy immediately sweet-talked to placate her.
"Why didn’t you say that earlier? You had to wait until I got mad."
...
Jiang Jingheng pressed his hat brim down and turned to leave.
Just then, a sudden exclamation was heard, "Everyone look over there, that girl is surrounded by several men. So many suitors for one girl? Wow, she must be as beautiful as a fairy."
"Hmm, did I see wrong? That girl looks so much like Mu Yan."
Jiang Jingheng abruptly turned and saw several tall men surrounding a girl, her being surrounded making her seem small and pitiful.
His gaze turned cold, exuding a gloomy aura as he quickly walked towards them, grabbing one man’s shoulder and pulling him aside.
