Chapter 782: Chapter 779: President Quinn is So... Badass!
"No kiss scene? Why not?" Mason Holden asked with a frown, still looking confused.
"..."
Of course, this wasn’t Clara Grant’s idea. It was Seth Quinn’s.
Clara Grant was his wife. He gave her the freedom to act, but that didn’t mean she could film just *any* scene. In any show she was in, kiss scenes, bed scenes, and passionate scenes were all absolutely forbidden.
Even if the script originally included them, they had to be completely cut or rewritten.
Are you kidding? He was a man, and a particularly petty and jealous one at that. How could he possibly watch his own wife film scenes like that with another man?
And so, when Rhys Ryston was adapting the novel, every intimate scene was revised at his demand.
"What other reason could there be?" A teasing laugh came from behind them. The two turned around to see Rhys Ryston had walked over.
Rhys Ryston glanced at Clara Grant with a smile, then added, "It’s because Clara has a green-eyed monster at home!"
Banking on her close relationship with Clara Grant and knowing Seth Quinn couldn’t do anything to her, Rhys Ryston was bold enough to bad-mouth him.
"President Quinn?" Mason Holden finally snapped back to reality, scratching the back of his head. "I was so focused on how to make the plot more logical that I completely forgot about that. But this is part of filming. President Quinn must understand that, right? He can’t be so petty that he won’t even let Clara film a kiss scene, can he?"
"What do you think? Why else would there not be a single intimate shot in the entire show, aside from holding hands and hugging?" ’Because we were forced to change everything!’
"Wow, President Quinn is so... impressive!" He had originally wanted to say "domineering," but thinking of his career and his life, he decided it was better to change his wording.
"But Clara," Rhys Ryston said, turning to Clara Grant with a more serious expression, "I also think this scene would be much more effective if it ended with a kiss instead of a hug. What do you think?"
’President Quinn wouldn’t listen to small fries like us,’ she thought, ’but if Clara is willing to film it, there shouldn’t be a problem, right?’
Clara Grant looked conflicted. On the one hand, she wanted to give the audience the best performance possible. After all, as an actor, you had to be prepared to "sacrifice" for your art.
But then there was Seth Quinn...
Finally, she bit her lip hesitantly. "I... I’ll go home and think it over."
"Alright, Clara. Give it some serious thought. You really have to consider it," Mason Holden said as he stood up. He brought a hand to his forehead, gave them a two-finger salute, and left with a smile.
"Look at that kid—he’s really eager to film that kiss scene with you," Rhys Ryston joked, glancing at Mason Holden’s back as he walked away. She turned back to Clara Grant, teasing, "You’re a married woman, and you’ve still got it."
As the show’s original author and screenwriter, Rhys Ryston spent every day on set. She was constantly discussing the plot with the director and actors, figuring out what needed to be revised and the best way to do it.
On set, Rhys Ryston was clearly more vibrant and energetic than she used to be—far less sullen and withdrawn.
Clara Grant was actually happy to see it and hoped Rhys would become even more lively. After all, she was such a young woman, and it made Clara anxious to see her so gloomy all the time.
Seeing Rhys poke fun at her now, Clara Grant didn’t back down in the slightest. She teased her right back and took the opportunity to fish for some gossip.
"Hey, Ryston, I heard Brother Sterling has a crush on you, is that true? Do you like him back? Or should I say... how far have you two gone?"
