Chapter 206: Chapter 206: The Arrogant Family (2)
"You..." Leo Jennings stared at Seraphina Sterling, utterly shocked. He had originally thought she was just a little clever, never imagining she knew this much!
"Don’t be surprised! Did you really think your plan was that confidential?" Seraphina Sterling shot Leo Jennings a look. "Anyone with a logical mind could figure it out! You’re in construction, you mentioned giving back to the community, and your company is based in Veridia. A project that would make you abandon the Veridia City market, yet also be connected to ’giving back to the community’... Other than the resort The Grant Group is building in town, I can’t think of any other possibilities!"
Seeing the shocked look on Leo Jennings’s face, Seraphina Sterling felt quite satisfied. ’This expression is far more pleasant than the condescending one he had just a moment ago!’
’To figure out so much just from a few snippets of conversation... She’s incredible! Even he had to admire her skills. This girl is not to be underestimated!’ That was Leo Jennings’s gut feeling.
Leo Jennings had this profound realization, but his sister lacked his ability to read people.
Quinn Jennings scoffed. "Since you know our family is about to work with The Grant Group, shouldn’t you have a better attitude toward us? As soon as we land this project, our family’s company will be connected to The Grant Group!" As she spoke, Quinn Jennings’s eyes shone with boundless adoration.
"You’ve heard of The Grant Group, right? The Grant Family of Aethelgard! Their power and wealth are immense. In Aethelgard, the Grant Family’s status is anything but ordinary! No one dares to openly oppose them! As long as our company secures this project from The Grant Group and gets on their good side, our future will be limitless!"
Quinn Jennings could almost see her family’s company expanding at a breathtaking pace, see herself as a revered Miss Jennings. Thinking of her future status, and then looking at these common folk—especially this tacky, unsophisticated girl—a wave of vanity washed over Quinn Jennings. Her gaze toward Seraphina Sterling became filled with haughtiness and arrogance.
"It’s like they say, a big tree provides the best shade. Once we’ve latched onto the Grant Family, it’s going to be smooth sailing for our company! We’ll grow in a flash! The fact that you’re sucking up to our family now shows you have some foresight. In the future, if something happens, you won’t be left completely in the dark without a single person to help you!"
Quinn Jennings had the simple mind of a little girl; Seraphina could read her thoughts at a glance. ’She’s just too desperate to succeed, too desperate to be better than everyone else.’
"Do you think you’re nobler than we are? You’re just sucking up to The Grant Group! It’s all the same—Ivy and Zoe suck up to you, and you suck up to The Grant Group! What gives your family the right to look down on them?"
Seraphina’s voice was soft, but it lifted at the end of her sentence, carrying a hint of sarcasm that reached everyone’s ears. The expressions on Elias Jennings’s family’s faces turned even fouler.
Ivy Cheney and Zoe Jennings stared at Seraphina Sterling in astonishment. Neither of them had expected Seraphina to actually speak up for them.
Zoe Jennings’s brow furrowed. She had only wanted Seraphina to help smooth things over for her father, but instead, Seraphina had pulled their entire family out of this awkward predicament.
Seraphina Sterling calmly met Quinn Jennings’s rigid expression. "Remember, you’re no different from us. We are all just struggling to get by. No one is any nobler than anyone else. You have no right, no qualification to act superior, to be arrogant, to mock or despise anyone. When you mock them, you’re mocking yourself. Because, in essence, you’re all cut from the same cloth."
