Chapter 209: Chapter 209: An Arrogant Family (5)
Leo Jennings offered a very rational analysis. As expected of someone who got into Yale University, his analytical abilities were truly exceptional. He made most of the company’s decisions, while Elias Jennings was merely the one who carried them out.
"I’ve tried to get in touch with this Vice Manager Hughes. I failed to get an appointment after several attempts. He’s rarely in the office and is incredibly elusive. On top of that, everyone at The Grant Group says he’s extremely diligent, but also rigid and old-fashioned. He hates it when people try to pull strings, and the only thing he cares about is capability. If you aren’t capable, he will absolutely refuse to work with you. Almost every project he handles goes to a competitive bidding process!"
When Elias Jennings mentioned the bidding process, his voice faltered. If it really went to bidding, their company wouldn’t stand a chance. Compared to those massive, powerful corporations, their company was nothing. A single sneeze from one of them could probably blow them away.
"We absolutely cannot let this project go to bidding! Investigate that Vice Manager Hughes thoroughly. Even the strongest men have a weakness! As long as we can find and exploit his weakness, this project will be as good as ours!"
Leo Jennings’s attitude was firm and resolute. This was their best chance to get in with the Grant Family! If their construction company was going to grow and thrive, it needed a powerful patron to watch over it. The Grant Family was the one he had meticulously chosen. If they missed this opportunity, their company, on its own strength, might never get another chance to establish a connection with them.
"I’ve already done a thorough investigation," Elias Jennings said, his voice lacking any of its earlier force. "The man is an iron fortress; there isn’t a single chink in his armor! Trying to use him as our way in is going to be incredibly difficult." He had hit a wall too many times over the past few days and had nearly given up all hope for this partnership.
"Leave it to me. I’ll handle it personally!" Leo Jennings declared, the very picture of an elite professional. No matter what, he refused to give up on this chance.
Leo desperately wanted to finalize this deal before he went abroad. That way, even when he was overseas, he wouldn’t have to worry too much, knowing the Grant Family was watching over the company.
However, Leo Jennings had overestimated his own abilities. Even a vice manager at one of The Grant Group’s subsidiaries wasn’t someone you could meet just by asking. For the Grant Family to have grown to its current scale and achieved such a high status, it would have been impossible without strict rules and regulations.
Leo Jennings spent nearly the entire afternoon at The Grant Group’s subsidiary office, but he still couldn’t get a meeting. This failed first attempt put him in a foul mood.
Elias Jennings and his family were all extremely anxious. Whether or not they could successfully partner with The Grant Group would determine their company’s future. It would also determine their own.
"Seraphina, school’s about to start. Have you finished all your homework? I don’t think I’ve seen you doing any of it," Kimberly Jennings said at dinner, casually raising a very serious question.
"Mom, did you forget?" Seraphina Sterling replied matter-of-factly. "I skipped a grade. I’ll be a senior when school starts, so of course my junior year winter homework doesn’t count anymore!"
A thought suddenly struck Kimberly Jennings. "You didn’t skip a grade just to get out of doing your winter homework, did you?"
Seraphina Sterling suddenly looked guilty, her eyes darting away. "Mom, you know me too well! This just proves you’re my real mom—you figured out even my most deeply hidden thoughts!"
Kimberly Jennings shot her a sidelong glance. She couldn’t help but smile at her daughter’s mischievous, quirky nature and her frankly dumbfounding excuse.
At the dinner table, Seraphina Sterling’s reply made the atmosphere exceptionally lively. One by one, everyone couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
