Chapter 276: Chapter 276: Mr. Grant Is Very Beastly (4)
"However, this profound matter of pursuing someone is something I’ll need to study carefully. But rest assured, a genius like me will pick it up in no time! You just wait and witness my progress!"
Then, Terrence Grant went back the way he came.
Seraphina Sterling suddenly leaped out of bed and ran to the window, glancing at the height. ’Alright, it’s only the third floor. Not a problem for me, let alone Terrence Grant!’
’I just hope Terrence Grant, with his one-track mind when it comes to romance, takes a few more days to do his ’research’. He’d better not do anything to Wyatt Gallagher, or I’ll really owe him an apology!’
In truth, Seraphina Sterling’s worries were completely unnecessary. Terrence Grant just didn’t know how to pursue someone; he wasn’t an idiot. Seraphina had made it very clear that she had no other intentions toward Wyatt Gallagher. If he actually went and caused trouble for Wyatt, it would only make her feel guilty, indirectly giving him an opening.
At the Sterling residence, after the scene Seraphina had caused, neither Jasmine Faulkner nor Faye Sterling dared to give her any attitude or cause her any trouble. For a while, Seraphina’s life was relatively peaceful. However, she didn’t attend any of the parties held by the scions of high society. She had more important things to do.
A crisis had already erupted in Hale Corporation’s electronics division. All the time she’d spent preparing in the stock market was finally about to pay off.
The July weather was excessively hot, especially in Aethelgard. From a distance, it looked as if the very ground was steaming. For ordinary people, going out in such weather was torture. But for people of status, the scorching heat had little effect. With their chauffeured cars and constant air conditioning, the heat outside was of no concern to them.
That morning, just as Seraphina Sterling was about to leave, Jasmine Faulkner called out to her.
"Chloe, you’ve been back for over half a month now. Besides showing your face at Miss Chapman’s birthday party, you haven’t attended any other events. How can that be? Even if you don’t like parties, you’re a daughter of the Sterling Family. You’re destined to do these things. Just come with me and Faye today!"
"That’s right. It’s my cousin’s birthday today! She’s holding a small celebration at the Stelluna Hotel. It’s just family and a few of her friends from work. It’s not as big or as formal as the Chapman’s party. You should come with us. It’s a good way to get to know people in our circle. It’s all family, so you don’t need to feel awkward!"
This was a complete change from Faye Sterling’s usual behavior. After more than half a month, she was finally speaking to Seraphina Sterling.
"Forget it. I haven’t prepared a gift, so I’d rather not go." ’Seraphina didn’t believe for a second that Faye would so easily forget being slapped by her.’
The moment she heard the word "gift," Faye Sterling subconsciously thought back to Fiona Chapman’s birthday and her own scheme against Seraphina. For a moment, she was at a loss for words.
"What gift? Faye and I have already prepared one. You just need to come along! The main purpose of this trip is to help you gradually get familiar with the high society environment and adapt to the lifestyle!"
Jasmine Faulkner put on a magnanimous smile, looking very generous, as if terrified Seraphina wouldn’t show up. ’She had spent ages coming up with this plan to deal with Seraphina, one that would prevent the old man from blaming her. If Seraphina didn’t go, wouldn’t all her efforts be for nothing?’
"Yes, Seraphina, you can’t just stay cooped up at home all the time! Since it’s a birthday for one of the Faulkner girls, you should go and make an appearance. It’s good to meet people. There will be many more parties like this in the future. Your aunt was right about one thing: this is a life you must get used to, because you are a young lady of the Sterling Family!" Walter Sterling also spoke up.
"Alright, then. But I have some other things to do today. Just tell me the time and place. If I have time, I’ll go." ’Seraphina didn’t want to disappoint her grandfather, so she had to agree. It was obvious Jasmine Faulkner had ill intentions. Who knew what kind of trick the mother-daughter duo had waiting for her?’
"What could be more important than a party? You don’t get many chances like this, so you have to seize them! You might not get such a good opportunity to adjust later on!" ’Faye was getting impatient. She had been preparing for over half a month. If the main character didn’t show up, how could the show go on?’
Seraphina Sterling stood up and picked up her car keys. "To you, attending a party might be the most important thing in the world. But to me, it’s nothing but a waste of time and life."
Seraphina looked at Walter Sterling. "Grandfather, I’m leaving now. If I have time, I’ll be there." With that, Seraphina drove off in the sports car that had originally belonged to Faye Sterling.
"So arrogant! Just you wait, you’ll get what’s coming to you today!" Faye Sterling glared venomously at the direction Seraphina had gone, cursing under her breath.
"Dad, I’ll take Faye to get ready and give the Faulkners a heads-up. If Seraphina really does go, we can’t let them get too wild. We wouldn’t want to scare her and make her develop a phobia of parties."
Jasmine Faulkner was very savvy. Ever since Kimberly Jennings had put her in her place, she had been much more careful about her words and actions, terrified that Kimberly would find fault with her again and make the old man even more displeased.
"Go on, then. Remember to take care of Seraphina." Walter Sterling yawned. An old man’s energy is finite, after all.
Seraphina Sterling sped along the road. She had wasted too much time talking nonsense with Jasmine and her daughter that morning. If she didn’t hurry, she might be late, and there was nothing she hated more than being late.
She was driving along just fine when, suddenly, four cars appeared on the road—in front, behind, and on both sides—boxing her in.
