Chapter 277: Chapter 277: The Kicked-Up Grudge (Part 1)
Seraphina Sterling had no idea what powerful figure she had offended for them to go to such great lengths. The four cars had appeared so perfectly on cue; she didn’t need to think twice to know they had been lying in wait for her on this road!
She kept such a low profile. Other than attending one birthday banquet hosted by the Chapman Family, she had never made any other appearances in high society! There was no way she could have offended someone she couldn’t afford to provoke!
Seraphina Sterling was forced to follow the black sedan ahead of her all the way to a bar called Westbound Bar. She glanced at the Maybach parked in front of it, and understanding dawned on her.
Faye Sterling had clearly been up to no good when she gave her this sports car. But the modified car was genuinely impressive. She had just arrived in Aethelgard and needed a vehicle to get around. Since Faye herself hadn’t hesitated to give it away, Seraphina had, of course, gladly accepted.
At first, she had been wary of Martin Quinn coming to make trouble. What kind of person was Martin Quinn? He was someone who would never, ever let himself get the short end of the stick. Given his supremely arrogant personality, it would have been a miracle if he hadn’t demanded compensation for a scratch on his car.
But after more than half a month passed with no word from him, Seraphina had started to wonder if the young master of the Quinn Family had experienced a sudden burst of benevolence. Perhaps he was capable of doing a good deed for the day. She never imagined that it wasn’t a matter of him *not* settling the score with the perpetrator, but simply a matter of *when*.
She had heard of a certain type of hunter, one who enjoys watching their prey become filled with terror and anxiety. It seemed Martin Quinn was just that kind of person. He had deliberately chosen not to settle the score immediately after the incident, instead dragging it out for over half a month for the sole purpose of plunging his target into fear.
He knew that anyone who could afford a sports car like that had to be from one of Aethelgard’s elite families. And anyone from Aethelgard’s elite wouldn’t even need to ask to know they had offended him, Martin Quinn. The entire upper echelon of Aethelgard knew the consequences of crossing him. Until he finally decided to show up at their door, his target would have no choice but to live in terror. And that was precisely what he wanted.
Without lifting a finger, he had already made his target unable to eat or sleep, living in a state of constant dread. What could possibly bring a greater sense of accomplishment? Martin Quinn was the type who loved to play with people’s minds. A man like that was far more dangerous than one who sought to conquer others with brute force.
In that short span of time, Seraphina’s mind had already run through countless scenarios. It seemed she was fated to be late today.
Westbound Bar was a very particular kind of establishment in Aethelgard. It wasn’t famous for its size or its services, but for its clientele: only those with status could enter. This was a bar belonging to the entire elite circle of Aethelgard, a networking venue for the upper class.
The staff here all had incredibly discerning eyes; with a single glance, they could identify which family you belonged to. No membership card was needed for entry—your face was the best credential. It was impossible for anyone to slip in unnoticed.
Seraphina Sterling was escorted into the bar by the four men.
It was morning, and the bar was empty save for a few staff members tidying up. Seraphina kept her eyes fixed forward, facing the situation with perfect calm. In her past life, she had come here on more than one occasion. She knew this place very well.
The man walking in front of her was somewhat shocked by Seraphina’s placid reaction. ’This girl really is something else, daring to scratch Mr. Quinn’s car and then flee the scene. We brought her here with this kind of muscle, basically kidnapping her with four grown men, and she hasn’t shown the slightest hint of panic! I have no idea where she comes from, but she’s got some serious guts!’
"Mr. Quinn," the man said respectfully. After leading Seraphina into a lavish private room, he moved to stand directly behind Martin Quinn.
