Chapter 278: Chapter 278: The Animosity from a Kick (Part 2)

An exquisite Black Forest cake sat before Martin Quinn. It was hard to imagine such a cold-blooded man enjoying sweets—and he was the type who couldn’t live without them.

Martin Quinn elegantly cut a small slice of cake and placed it in his mouth, savoring it as if it were the greatest pleasure on earth. The sight could tempt even those who disliked sweets to take a bite. With looks as handsome as his, if he were to shoot a commercial, the cake would undoubtedly be a massive hit. Of course, that was just a fantasy. Who would have the nerve to ask the heir of the Quinn Family to film a cake commercial?

Seraphina Sterling’s mind wandered as she quietly watched him slowly polish off nearly half of the Black Forest cake.

He sat while she stood.

He ate while she watched.

’Isn’t this a little too pathetic?’

Just as Seraphina Sterling was about to drift off, Martin Quinn finally spoke.

"Seraphina Sterling, eldest daughter of the Sterling Family. A year ago, after Orson Sterling passed away, you left Aethelgard and returned with your mother to your family home in Sanford. You only recently came back to Aethelgard."

"Your intelligence is quite impressive, Mr. Quinn," Seraphina Sterling said with a faint smile, showing not a trace of fear. It was as if she were speaking to a complete stranger.

Martin Quinn’s interest was piqued. His eyes lit up with the excited gleam of a hunter spotting his prey. "Few people, after offending me, dare to speak so calmly. You’re brave. Braver than some men, even."

A flicker of surprise crossed Seraphina Sterling’s bright eyes. "You must be mistaken about something, Mr. Quinn. I just got back to Aethelgard. How could I have possibly offended you?"

"And here I was just complimenting you. Showing your true colors so soon?" The interest in Martin Quinn’s eyes faded. "Thanks to you, my brand-new Maybach is already in the shop before I even had a chance to break it in."

"That truly is a shame," Seraphina Sterling said, a look of pity on her face. "But you shouldn’t be thanking me. You should be thanking the one who scratched your precious car. And here I was, just complimenting your intelligence, Mr. Quinn. I didn’t expect you to show your true colors so soon." Her smile deepened as she threw his own words right back at him.

A bloodthirsty smile spread across Martin Quinn’s face. The cake knife he had just used was now twirling rapidly in his hand, the silvery spine of the blade flashing with a blinding light.

"If this is your way of getting my attention, of trying to impress me, then let me be clear: it’s the stupidest method imaginable. You’re just being a smart-ass. And there’s nothing I hate more than a smart-ass." As he spoke, the sharp knife shot out of his hand with a WHOOSH, flying straight for Seraphina Sterling’s eyes.

The instant he threw it, Seraphina Sterling sidestepped, narrowly dodging the sudden attack. It had been a close call, but the sensation of the blade whizzing past her ear still made her heart leap. ’If Faye Sterling had been standing here today instead of me,’ she thought, ’she probably would’ve lost an eye!’

’This man is an absolute lunatic! You can never guess what he’ll do next. He has no scruples, no forethought. He does everything based on his mood!’

"You’re lucky, Seraphina Sterling." Though Martin Quinn was somewhat shocked by her reaction, he still didn’t take her seriously.

Seraphina Sterling’s expression remained calm. She took his words as a compliment and accepted them gracefully. "I get that a lot."

"Don’t celebrate too soon. You may have been very lucky in the past, but unfortunately for you, you ran into me today. In my presence, all that luck of yours will vanish." Martin Quinn’s smile grew more sinister, his icy expression plunging the private room into the bitter cold of winter.
