Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Reaping What You Sow (5)
’Holy shit! You’ve got to be kidding me!’
’I’ve seen some shameless people in my day, but I’ve never seen anyone *this* shameless!’
’It just goes to show, as the saying goes: to be shameless is to be invincible! You’re just one of the Faulkner family’s less-favored daughters. What makes you think you’re worthy of getting a man like Mr. Quinn from a mega-wealthy family to come here? You’re not even fit to carry his shoes!’
’Aiden Faulkner sure knows how to take advantage of a situation and make herself look good!’
’Still, why couldn’t it be my birthday today? Then I’d be able to talk to Mr. Quinn! If I could just win his favor, my status at home would soar. I could even help my family secure a powerful connection!’
Martin Quinn didn’t even deign to look at Aiden Faulkner, simply spitting out three cold words, "Are you worthy?"
Instantly, the smile on Aiden Faulkner’s face froze. She was so mortified she didn’t know what to say. In truth, nothing she could say would salvage her reputation now.
The crowd’s envy and jealousy vanished, replaced by sheer gloating. ’This is what happens when you don’t know your own limits! If Mr. Quinn were really that easy to approach, would it ever be your turn, Aiden Faulkner?!’
The moment Peter Quinn saw Martin Quinn arrive, he felt as if his savior had appeared. Clutching the wrist Seraphina had dislocated, he walked up to Martin and said respectfully, "Mr. Quinn, I’m Peter Quinn from the branch family. I heard your new car got scraped and that the culprit fled the scene. I immediately mobilized all my resources and finally tracked down the audacious person responsible!"
Peter Quinn shot Seraphina a vicious glare. "It’s this woman who doesn’t know what’s good for her! Not only did she refuse to apologize, she even spouted arrogant nonsense, disrespected the Quinn family, and went so far as to injure me! For someone courting death like this, you must punish her severely, Mr. Quinn. Make her understand that here in Aethelgard, the Quinn family is not to be trifled with!"
Peter Quinn felt a deep sense of satisfaction as he laid out his complaint, so smug he could barely suppress a laugh. ’Seraphina Sterling, let’s see you get out of this one! Mr. Quinn himself is here now—let’s see you act so high and mighty! I’d like to see if you can still crack a smile now!’
"Oh? Is that so?" Martin Quinn’s expression grew even colder. Though it was the height of summer, the crowd couldn’t help but feel a biting chill. It was a cold that seeped out from within, radiating from the heart until it seemed to turn their very blood to ice.
"It’s absolutely true! So many people here saw it; they can all be witnesses! If you don’t believe me, you can ask the Second Madam of the Sterling family and Miss Sterling. They’re Seraphina Sterling’s family—they would never frame her!" Peter Quinn explained eagerly.
"Mr. Quinn, I am so terribly sorry. Seraphina just returned from the countryside and doesn’t understand the rules of high society. She certainly has no idea who you are. It’s our failure; we didn’t educate her properly, and that’s why she offended you. Any dissatisfaction you have, please direct it at her! This was her fault and has nothing to do with the Sterling family. You are more than welcome to teach her some manners. We, the Sterling family, will not have a single objection!"
Jasmine Faulkner didn’t offer a single word in Seraphina’s defense. Instead, she threw her out as a scapegoat, making a decision for the entire family and treating Seraphina as a disposable piece to preserve the rest of the Sterlings.
"That’s right, Mr. Quinn! As long as it appeases your anger, you can punish Seraphina however you see fit. We won’t have any complaints. This was her fault from the start! When people make mistakes, they must pay the price, regardless of their identity or status! Whatever happens to Seraphina from now on, she’ll have brought it all on herself! She’ll have to reap the bitter fruit she has sown!"
Faye Sterling chimed in, her speech passionate and brimming with righteous indignation. It was like she’d transformed into a goddess of justice in the blink of an eye. Seraphina couldn’t help but muse to herself, ’If I weren’t the one at the center of this, I’d almost be tempted to applaud Faye for such a brilliant performance!’
