Chapter 472: Chapter 472: Seraphina is Being Discussed for Marriage (4)
"What are you two waiting for? Hurry up and throw her out! The sight of her infuriates me! So desperate to climb the social ladder, yet she won’t even look at her own background! How dare she show up here! Girls these days are so shameless. They’ll do anything for a life of luxury! She’s come here to gold-dig, has she? Absolutely clueless! Does she really think that just because she’s a little pretty, she can seduce any man she wants?"
Jacinta Hale was absolutely livid. She’d thrown all pretense of elegance and sophistication to the wind. If she didn’t do something, right now, she felt she would go insane!
"So she’s here to hook a man?" a mocking voice piped up. The woman’s own husband kept several mistresses; she hated homewreckers more than anything.
"That can’t be right... The girl is very pretty, and her eyes look so clear. She doesn’t seem like that kind of person, does she?"
"What do you know? You can’t judge a book by its cover. These little vixens are masters of deception! Don’t be fooled by that innocent look; get her in bed, and she’s probably wilder than anyone. Some men are just into that—a lady with her clothes on, a slut with them off!"
...
"People like her are shameless. They’d do anything for money! Pay her enough, and she’d probably sleep with anyone!"
Under Jacinta Hale’s misdirection, the gossip from the wealthy socialites grew increasingly vicious. Jacinta had expertly preyed on these women’s own experiences and insecurities. After all, what man among their circle didn’t cheat? Their husbands all had a wife at home and a mistress on the side. Seeing Seraphina Sterling as just another one of those "other women," the wives redirected all their pent-up frustration onto her.
It had to be said, Jacinta Hale was a master at manipulating people. With just a few sentences, she had turned Seraphina Sterling into public enemy number one. Yet, even as the crowd’s accusations rained down on her, Seraphina showed not a shred of panic. In fact, her smile only grew more brilliant, the faint dimples that appeared on her cheeks making her look all the more charming.
To maintain such composure in the face of public condemnation—that grace under pressure alone was enough to show that this girl was no ordinary person. Those with a discerning eye said nothing, content to just watch quietly. The truly clever people simply stood on the sidelines to enjoy the show, unwilling to become foolish pawns in Jacinta Hale’s game.
"Do you not want your jobs anymore? Didn’t you hear what I said? Throw this person out! Now! Immediately! Do you want to be fired?"
Jacinta Hale harangued them until her throat was dry, but the two guards remained motionless. Seraphina Sterling simply watched her with a smile, a look that seemed to say, ’You’re an absolute joke.’ This time, Jacinta Hale was truly enraged. As one of The Hales, her position was already a sensitive one. Now, at her own father’s birthday banquet, her commands were being completely ignored. How could she possibly maintain any dignity!
"Miss Hale, I’d advise you to get a glass of water and rest for a bit. Seeing as you’re my elder, I won’t stoop to your level. Today is Mr. Hale’s birthday banquet, hosted by The Hales for their patriarch. It’s simply impossible for an outsider like yourself to command these guards. You should stop humiliating yourself. What kind of person picks on the security staff?"
Seraphina Sterling’s patronizing air, like a junior graciously indulging a petulant elder, was the final straw. Jacinta Hale completely lost her composure. She shrieked at the two guards, "Are you deaf? Did you not hear my order? Do as I say!"
The two guards looked extremely uncomfortable. The taller one was wavering, ready to step in, but a sharp glance from his shorter colleague stopped him cold. The shorter guard didn’t have many interests, but he was an avid stone gambler and knew a lot about jadeite. ’This young lady is clearly no ordinary person,’ he thought. ’Just the bracelet on her wrist has to be worth several million! How could someone wearing such expensive jewelry be a nobody? And that poise she has... not everyone can be that composed. Her calm and collected grace is far more impressive than Jacinta Hale’s hysterics.’
