Chapter 3086: Chapter 3087: Mourning Announcement—For Whom Does It Sound
The group traveled day and night, reaching Gaochang City in less than two days.
"Master, the delegation has already entered the Palace. The Western Regions Country is hosting a banquet tonight, and you have arrived just in time," Jianqi said, bowing.
Bai Ruozhu had no mood to attend the banquet and hurriedly asked, "Are my parents and children all right?"
"Everything is well, please don’t worry, Master," Jianqi answered.
Bai Ruozhu sighed in relief, knowing that the Zhong Family was targeting Ao Song, and focused on her and Achun, leaving others alone for now.
"Let’s enter the Palace first to reunite with my parents and then have an audience with the King of the Western Regions Country," Jiang Yichun held her hand, seeming to calm her chaotic emotions. The warmth of his palm slowly brought her peace.
She nodded and said, "Alright."
Jianqi helped to support the astrologer. Upon touching him, Jianqi couldn’t help but frown.
"Why is he so cold?" He seldom spoke or asked too much, but he couldn’t help but inquire this time.
"That’s why we need to enter the Palace to find a way to save the astrologer," Bai Ruozhu thought it was difficult to explain and casually replied.
Jianqi asked no further questions, but his frown deepened. Bai Ruozhu, worried, did not notice Jianqi’s unusual behavior.
The group smoothly entered the Imperial Palace of the Western Regions and soon reunited with Gao Zhou and the others, who had been settled in.
"Dad, mom, I missed you so much!" Little Dengdeng rushed over and jumped into his father’s arms.
After all, he was closer to his father, so Jiang Yichun picked up Little Dengdeng and raised him above his head.
Little Dengdeng giggled, his laughter crisp like the sound of the clearest bell, easing Bai Ruozhu’s melancholic mood and dissipating some of the clouds from her brow.
"Is it okay?" Chushuang glanced at the unconscious astrologer, asking worriedly.
Bai Ruozhu shook her head slightly, "Not very good, let’s talk inside."
Little Dengdeng and the others noticed the adults had matters to discuss, obediently going to play with Nanny. After settling Zhong Kui and the astrologer, everyone gathered to discuss the situation.
"Will the King of the Western Regions Country be willing to lend it?" Gao Zhou was somewhat worried. Being someone from the Chengshui Royal Family, he understood the intricacies within royal circles, and such treasures were rarely lent out.
Some royal families were even superstitious, believing that certain supreme treasures carried dragon energy, and if lent, their dragon energy would dissipate.
"Let’s give it a try," Bai Ruozhu wasn’t entirely confident, but she had some trust in the character of this Western Regions Country.
Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun changed into official robes, preparing for their audience with the King of the Western Regions Country; they couldn’t be too casual as they were on a diplomatic mission.
Just as the two were about to leave, they heard the sound of horns echoing from the northern part of the Palace.
The sound of the horns was solemn and sorrowful, causing Bai Ruozhu’s heart to tighten with an ominous feeling.
She pulled Jiang Yichun to quicken their pace, soon meeting a patrolling guard in the Palace.
"I am Bai Ruozhu, envoy from Danliang. What is the meaning of these horn sounds?" she asked courteously.
The guard seemed surprised by the envoy’s politeness, his face slightly reddening, but as the next horn sounded, he became somber again.
"It’s the custom of the royal family. Whenever someone from the royal family passes away, we blow the horn of mourning. The more esteemed the individual, the longer the horns are blown."
"Who has passed away?" Jiang Yichun asked coldly.
The guard shook his head, "I don’t know, but it should be someone important."
Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun exchanged a quick glance—how odd, someone passed away right after they arrived?
