Chapter 783: Miho’s New Contract
Chapter 783: Miho’s New Contract
Miho had been expanding and repairing the territory’s Cold Storage when Lily contacted her.
’Miho, descend from the territory and come to our location. Bring the Thunderveil Skyreaver’s beastcore with you.’
Miho immediately did as she was told and came down.
Kaelion also accompanied her to provide support in case anything went wrong.
Lately, he hadn’t been talking very much, choosing instead to focus on training and absorbing all the treasures he had obtained from the competition.
By the time they arrived, Leo had already cleared a patch of land inside the forest in case the contracting process became violent or failed.
"Miho, bring out the core and focus on contracting it. If you feel that the spirit beast is ranked way higher than what you can handle, immediately cancel the contract process, lest you risk damaging your soul," Lily reminded her.
"Yes!" Miho responded, determination flashing in her eyes.
She brought out the large beastcore and placed it on the ground. Then she touched it and closed her eyes, focusing on the contract.
At once, a wave of energy shot out from the beastcore, immediately darkening the sky as dense clouds swirled into a vortex.
Miho’s expression hardened as crackling electricity engulfed her and the beastcore. The electricity seemed to seep into her body, making her muscles twitch.
At that moment, lightning energy gathered at the vortex’s centre, making the clouds glow bright blue.
"Miho!" Kaelion’s pupils contracted when he sensed the energy gathering behind the clouds.
A Low 4-Star lightning attack was being prepared!
Even Lily grew concerned.
At that moment, the lightning descended.
Crackle—!
"Get away!" Kaelion shouted as he rushed forward to pull Miho away, but Leo blocked his path.
"Wait!"
BOOOM!!
The thick bolt of lightning crashed down on Miho, immediately burning her skin and nearly blasting her away as debris and dirt flew in all directions.
"Ah!" Miho screamed in pain, making Kaelion’s chest tighten.
The pillar of lightning was like a continuous stream of bluish-white light that tortured Miho with its relentless strikes.
As the initial debris settled, Miho lay collapsed on the ground. However, one hand still weakly held onto the beastcore, which was slowly dissolving into thin air.
Somehow, she endured the pain and held on.
Srrrreeeeeaaahhhhhh!!!
At that moment, a loud screech from above the clouds drew everyone’s attention as a large spirit bird slowly descended toward Miho.
"Eerrggg..." Miho groaned in pain as her right hand, which was holding the beastcore, began to hurt even more.
Everyone watched and a new insignia took shape beside the Bison’s insignia.
It glowed bright white like electricity and strongly resembled the Thunderveil Skyreaver’s figure.
Kaelion immediately rushed to Miho’s side and picked her up. He quickly fed her a high-ranking healing potion, which healed her body rapidly.
He frowned when he noticed that her eyes were glowing even though her eyelids were closed.
When he used his fingers to open her eyes, he found them filled with dense lightning energy.
"Kaelion, back up!" Leo shouted from the side when he noticed a sharp jump in Miho’s strength, which had directly reached the middle ranges of Pseudo 4-Star.
However, Kaelion was a little too late. Miho’s body released a burst of energy that threw him back, and a pair of enormous wings—each nearly 5 meters long—made entirely of lightning energy burst from her back.
A total wingspan of 10 meters!
Flap!
Crackle—boom-boom-boom!
A single flap sent lightning attacks rolling across the ground, creating powerful explosions.
Miho forcibly grabbed her right arm, where the mark had appeared, and tried to control her new powers.
Before long, the powerful lightning energy surrounding her body began to settle, and even the outrageously huge wings shrank.
The glow in her eyes dimmed, and the first thing she saw when she turned around was Kaelion getting back to his feet, slight bruises covering his body along with residual lightning energy that caused a paralyzing effect.
However, he quickly recovered, as the attack hadn’t been strong enough to seriously injure him.
"Brother K!" Miho immediately rushed towards him.
"I’m sorry! Did I hurt you?" she apologised, checking him for any injuries, worry written all over her face.
Kaelion simply flicked her forehead, making her wince.
"I should be the one asking that. Are you hurt anywhere?" he asked, resting his hand on her head.
Her face immediately turned red as the shrunken lightning wings disappeared completely.
"I-I’m fine."
She then looked at her fingers and arms.
"I feel stronger..." she muttered.
"Of course you feel stronger. You’re radiating the strength of a Pseudo 4-Star now," Kaelion said, ruffling her hair.
"Kuhmm!"
Kaelion froze at Lily’s interruption and immediately pulled his hand away.
"Leo... are you sure it’s a 20% stat share?" Lily asked, ignoring Kaelion as she approached Miho and examined her increased strength.
Unlike last time, when Miho contracted the Bison and seemed to receive a 20% stat share, this increase felt much greater.
"30..." Leo muttered.
"It increased?"
"Did you have her soul examined? I’m pretty sure her talent must have ranked up after her soul was strengthened by all those Elasian Bloom petals."
Kaelion nodded.
"That’s right. I do feel that her soul has strengthened. And after contracting this core, I think it strengthened even further, allowing her latent talent to rank up and boosting the feedback."
Lily turned sharply toward Kaelion with a frown.
"How are you sensing that?" she asked. Even she, as Miho’s soul master, couldn’t pinpoint exactly what she was sensing.
Miho’s face turned tomato red, while Kaelion flinched.
"You two..." Lily started to speak, but Miho interrupted her.
"Big Sister! Brother K is injured! He needs to rest!" she exclaimed in a panic, immediately grabbing Kaelion and pulling him away.
"..."
Lily wanted to point out that Miho needed to rest, but the two had already run off.
Suddenly, an arm wrapped around her shoulder.
"Are you really telling me you didn’t know?" Leo asked with a crooked smile.
Lily chuckled.
"It’s fun teasing her."
They looked deeply into each other’s eyes as something ignited between them. But...
"Damn it! I have a lot of work to complete."
Leo suddenly remembered his responsibilities and reluctantly let go of Lily. Lily pressed a small kiss to his cheek before elegantly flying off; she also had plenty of work to do before nightfall.
The renovation work was still incomplete, and both of them, along with Niri, needed to fill Howl’s back with plants so that he could recover his expended energy at a faster rate.
Not to mention, Leo also needed to get the sleeping beast moving.
