Chapter 782: Fire Brigade - 2
Grrrrrr!
Agnivar groaned in pain as his claws dug into the ground, bone-crunching sounds echoing through his body.
"Leo, should we use healing magic on him?" Lily asked, unsure whether casting a healing spell would be a good idea.
"No, let him go through it without interference," Leo replied, watching every change inside Agnivar’s body.
The hand Lily had placed on Agni’s body was already seared, and her skin sizzled against his increasingly hot scales.
However, Lily refused to let go and continued sensing every change. Apparently, after Azrakar’s Divine Astra flames burned her, her body had adapted and developed a tiny bit of heat and burn resistance, slightly dulling the pain she felt right now.
The transformation lasted nearly half an hour, and by now, many people had gathered around to watch.
Thalvyr and Cindriss were also present, watching intently. After all, if Leo was generous enough, they would be the next ones to undergo this arduous process.
Ashira squirmed with worry as she watched Agni suffer. To distract her, Leo gave her a few Peak 3-star blood essences and had her consume them alongside Agni.

Leo immediately thought that if he had possessed these stats during the bounty hunt, that Aric fellow wouldn’t have been able to hurt him.
But then another thought occurred to him. Who knew how many more beasts he had?
Since a single beast was enough, Aric never needed to bring out a second one, even if he had.
After Agnivar sat down to rest, Leo called the other fire-affinity individuals to the location.
There were five of them in total.
Agnivar, Ashira, Thalvyr, Cindriss, and Naelith.
Another fire-affinity individual, Thalvyr’s son, was Arkvyr. However, he was simply too young.
"Today, I am forming the official Flame Department of the territory, which will go by the name—Fire Brigade."
All five of them nodded in understanding.
Leo pointed at the Infernoheart Mango Tree beside them.
"This treasure will serve as your department’s mark. In the future, if the territory is renovated, your new homes will be built around this treasure."
"You five are the core members of the Fire Department. From now on, anybody who joins will automatically be placed below you."
Leo walked up to Thalvyr.
"For now, I am appointing Thalvyr as the department head. He will hold the title of Brigadier and will be addressed as such as a sign of respect."
"The position is not permanent though. If someone stronger challenges Thalvyr and wins, they can become the next Brigadier—but only if they meet the other requirements as well, which include literacy and management capabilities."
Agnivar wanted to speak immediately, but Leo spoke first.
"Agnivar and Ashira are not allowed to challenge for this position. However, if new intelligent beasts join the department, they can."
Having Agni and Ashira compete for the position would be somewhat unfair when Leo could make them stronger simply by sitting in one place.
To make things fairer, Agnivar was appointed as the Fire Department’s Guardian Beast. Ashira or any new fire-based tamed beast Leo might acquire could challenge his position, though that was highly unlikely unless the dragon egg eventually hatched.
Another reason was that Agnivar would be leaving the territory to attend to his own personal tasks, as specified in the taming contract. The department couldn’t be left without a head while he was away.
"My Lord, what is the purpose of this department?" Thalvyr asked.
"This is one of the many elemental departments that will be formed in the future. As for its purpose, it will be responsible for defending the territory, managing relevant tasks, and conducting mercenary missions under the territory’s banner."
Leo drastically changed the meaning of the ’Fire Brigade’ from what he knew in the previous world, but since no one knew or cared here, there shouldn’t be problems.
The good thing was, it sounded cool.
"But, Lord... I don’t know how to read or write," Thalvyr admitted, feeling a little embarrassed as he recalled that Leo had mentioned literacy as one of the requirements for becoming a Brigadier.
If that were the case, Naelith would be much better suited for the position.
"Then learn," Leo replied simply.
"We don’t have many people yet, so for now, having department heads appointed based on strength is sufficient. But if you don’t learn soon, you might have to step down."
Thalvyr struck his bare chest with his right hand, making a loud thump.
"I will surely become literate as soon as possible!"
"Good. The sooner, the better."
After that, Leo distributed some Dragon Blood Essence to Thalvyr, Cindriss, and Naelith.
However, Leo soon noticed a problem.
He hadn’t named his territory yet. It would be better to do so soon so that a proper name could be established and spread.
After all, spreading something as lame as ’Leo’s Territory’s Fire Brigade’ didn’t feel right.
However, to have the territory’s name updated in Aurelius Academy’s records, Leo would need to pay 1 million AC.
Leo also considered forming an Ice Department, but only Miho and Zelut were there.
"Wait, now that I think about it..."
"Lily, shouldn’t Miho be able to contract that Royal Bloodline Thunderveil Skyreaver’s beast core now?"
Lily’s eyes widened slightly as she recalled it. Leo had formed a Royal Bloodline Skyreaver’s beast core during the King Tier spirit beast migration and given it to Miho.
However, because her strength was low and the core was a Mid 4-star, they decided to wait until she was strong enough to handle it.
"You’re right! Let’s do it now!"
Now was the right time, since she was a Peak 3-star individual and had taken her first steps toward Pseudo 4-star.
