Chapter 635 - 634: The Chase
Chapter 635: Chapter 634: The Chase
There was no time to ponder the fact that he wasn’t a warrior nor did he seem to have any talent for becoming one.
Now, he needed to escape. His revenge would turn into a massacre of an entire family if he was caught and recognized.
Cisa gritted his teeth as his legs seemed like springs, bouncing him off the ground as his speed increased severalfold. Within moments, he had crossed several hundred meters as he headed straight for the exit of the city.
"Sorry..."
"Excuse me..."
"Look to your right..."
Cisa dodged as he spoke, trying his best not to hit other humans while more than fifty men were on his trail, closing in quickly. Unlike Cisa, who needed to dodge, they simply bulldozed their way through everyone in their path.
After about five minutes, they reached the exits of the city. The tall walls, each more than twenty meters in height, could be seen from a distance, along with the heavily armed soldiers and various aircraft capable of shattering the sound barrier flying around.
Cisa ignored them as he targeted one of the open passages in the gate.
The soldiers present were no small force, easily numbering in the hundreds. In addition, their guns could fire massive rounds capable of injuring a warrior if they were hit.
Yet Cisa approached them without fear, anxious only to leave the city quickly. He knew why the place was so heavily secured. It was because of what had happened a few years back.
A monster, a plant-based one resembling a mushroom, was a Peak Rank 0 being. Although its physical strength wasn’t commendable, its defense made up for it. But the worst thing about it was its ability.
Its ability was deadly not only to humans but even among monsters. It could control a weaker being and transmit that control from one infected host to another. This meant that, in less than a day, it could create an army capable of wreaking havoc.
And that was exactly what happened. Human cities fell under its might, and since then, all human cities had undergone strict checks like these. So, when the soldiers saw Cisa approaching, they raised their guns.
"Hey, you! Why are you running?" one of them asked, but Cisa couldn’t waste his breath anymore. His pursuers were only a few meters behind him. Even though he could be killed outright, he still gritted his teeth and pressed forward.
One... Two... Shoot?
But alas, no sound was heard as Cisa passed cleanly through the gate.
"Damn it! Stop him!"
Just as Cisa left the gate, the men arrived and shouted before also leaving.
The soldiers all lowered their guns and resumed checking those about to enter the city as if nothing had happened.
Actually, the machines around them hadn’t sounded any alarms, which meant there was nothing wrong with Cisa. So, if he wanted to leave the city as a resident, there was no problem.
But just as the soldiers thought they could relax, return to work, and that everything was over, steady footsteps were heard.
PA.
PA.
PA.
In the distance, a man in a suit with smoke rising from his mouth could be seen.
In just a few blinks, he had crossed a kilometer and was standing directly in front of them.
"Continue your job."
He left only those words before disappearing.
The soldiers swallowed hard. How terrifying! Even though they had guns that could technically kill warriors, warriors were terrifyingly fast. They could easily dodge the bullets. The guns were more like a deterrent against new warriors.
No human weapon could bring warriors under control. Only other warriors could control warriors.
Now, they felt pity for the young man who had passed through the gate earlier. He was definitely being toyed with. Anyone could see it from how leisurely the warrior was chasing him. Moreover, he wasn’t a new warrior but a well-known figure among the government and military of their city.
---
Meanwhile...
Having escaped the city, Cisa seemed to have become a free bird, leaving the city behind as his speed seemed to almost double. He used the trees as leverage to boost his speed even further, but he didn’t seem to be losing his pursuers.
None of them were normal humans. Working for this shady organization, they had long since become something more.
They had been injected with a body-enhancing drug and turned into half-warriors. They were multiple times stronger than normal humans, including in terms of speed, yet they were having trouble catching up with Cisa, a mere talentless individual.
Bang!
Cisa moved to his left, dodging the attack as a small crater formed. He couldn’t relax as cold sweat gathered across his back.
They had finally caught up with him, and worse, he felt weak as his speed began to drop and his strength waned.
Boom!
Bang!
Two punches struck Cisa, nearly making him lose his footing. He felt as though a large truck had collided with him, rupturing his internal organs and almost killing him. He stumbled but grabbed the dirt and used it to push himself up and run.
He couldn’t help but think of his family. He felt sorry for them, but he had had enough of all this bullshit. He knew those people would never stop, and at the rate things were going, his father would be dead soon. They might even decide to do something else to his family. They had already threatened once to sell his and his younger brother’s internal organs to pay off the loan. Thinking about it now, Cisa felt that it was no joke. They were really considering it.
Within moments, Cisa was covered in injuries, his wounds still bleeding as he pushed his body to its limit to escape.
Suddenly, he felt the sun had dimed as he rapidly increased the gap between himself and his pursuers while entering a new patch of the forest. His legs came to a sudden stop, his energy reserves at zero. Cisa felt he couldn’t move at all and that he would be caught. Well, he hoped his pursuers would arrive quickly because...
Roarrrrt!
A beast more than ten meters tall appeared before him. It was a mixture of a rhino and a bear. It stood on its hind legs, with massive claws almost a meter long. Its height seemed to double, no, triple, as a large shadow was cast over Cisa and the surrounding area.
The terrifying aura from the beast pressed down on Cisa, leaving him unable to breathe, as though his lungs had collapsed. Only one question remained in his mind.
Was this the end?
"Hey, you sneaky bastard! You ran off."
