Chapter 539: Magic Puppet

CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG!

The crisp sound of something striking steel echoed from all directions within the dark corridor. The dense hail of bullets from the heavy firepower was forcibly blocked by the colossal silhouette of a monster. Radiating a thick malice, the creature charged straight out of the passageway.

BOOM!

A muffled explosion erupted, deafening to the ears.

Yue Zhenhong reacted instantly, erupting with Qi Flame as he blocked the path in front of Lu Chao. The raging shockwaves swirled like a hurricane, tearing up the ground.

CRACK CRACK CRACK.

The sound of fracturing metal spread across the floor as Yue Zhenhong unleashed a full-powered punch to block the monster. But soon, as they looked up and clearly saw the creature that had emerged, everyone’s pupils constricted.

“This…”

It was fully four to five meters tall, its entire body covered in grayish-black scales. It resembled a humanoid lizard, with glowing black patterns crisscrossing its form. Those murky yellow, slit-like pupils exuded a thick malice that enveloped the crowd. Every bullet fired at it was repelled by its scales, sparking in a shower of light.

“What is this thing?” Yue Zhenhong’s expression shifted slightly. The creature’s appearance completely defied his expectations. It looked half-human, half-beast, and possessed Superpower Level strength.

ROAR!

Before he could recover his wits, the giant lizard creature unleashed a sudden, explosive roar. The piercing sonic wave acted like steel nails driving into everyone’s brains, scrambling their nerves. The Superpower Members grimaced in pain, dropping their firearms.

Bearing the brunt of the attack, Yue Zhenhong’s expression also changed. Veins bulged on his forehead as his mind suffered a severe shock.

In the next split second…

BOOM!

The humanoid lizard swung its claws, sending him flying.

THUD THUD THUD.

A series of muffled impacts echoed behind Lu Chao and the others as Yue Zhenhong crashed through layers of rock and metal, shattering them in his wake.

The atmosphere fell briefly silent before a new commotion erupted from the back of the corridor.

ROAR!

A fresh, thunderous bellow shook the subterranean pit. Another giant lizard creature of similar appearance charged out, blocking the entrance of the passageway. Dark patterns covered its entire body, pulsing as if gathering some kind of energy. Its scales were of an even darker hue, giving off a cold, ferocious vibe. Its massive silhouette loomed over the group like a small mountain, causing the Superpower Members to widen their eyes and freeze in place, their bodies stiff with fear.

What kind of monsters were these? Beast Kings? Or some new type of mutated abomination?

“Watch out!” Raccoon Cat and Penelope finally snapped back to reality, hastily shouting a warning. “These things possess boundless strength and are invulnerable to blades and bullets! They are on par with Superpower Level experts!”

“Moreover, they also have some kind of…”

HUM!

Before they could speak again, a beam of grayish-white breath shot out from the corridor like a pillar of light, instantly striking Lu Chao.

A bizarre scene unfolded. His and Ghost Element’s bodies rapidly turned grayish-white, as if they had been petrified and pinned in place. They transformed into motionless statues, completely unable to move.

“Inspector!”

Yue Zhenhong, who had just climbed out from the rubble, underwent a drastic change in expression. Raccoon Cat and Penelope’s eyes widened in shock and anger. They desperately wanted to help stop the petrification, but were powerless to do so.

Looking inward, they noticed yet another movement within the dark corridor. A giant lizard creature covered in grayish-white scales strode out. It looked like a giant, standing on two feet, holding a thick scepter in its left hand. Grayish-white light swirled at the top of the scepter, intertwined with flashing energy patterns.

It turned out to have been hiding in the shadows from the very beginning. In the blink of an eye, it had assessed everyone’s strength and petrified Lu Chao, pinning down the greatest threat.

“Damn it!” Raccoon Cat gritted his teeth, looking grim.

But before they could think of a countermeasure…

THUMP!

The initial humanoid lizard with the black scales stomped the ground and flashed over, appearing right in front of him. Its swinging scaled claw crashed down like a massive hammer, whipping up a fierce gale that seemed to vacuum away the surrounding air. It forced Raccoon Cat to erupt with his Qi Flame and throw a punch in defense.

BOOM!

A thunderous bang echoed out as a shallow crater was blasted into the ground beneath Raccoon Cat’s feet. As an Exploration Level expert, he was actually suppressed by the giant lizard creature. His knees bent slightly, crushing the floor beneath him, and he found himself momentarily pinned in place.

Off to the side, Penelope’s expression flickered, and she moved to assist him. However…

HUM!

The other humanoid lizard with the darker scales looked toward her. The energy patterns on its body flashed silently as it abruptly bent forward, plunging its scaled claws into the ground.

In the next instant, Penelope’s face stiffened as she looked down at her feet. The massive shadow on the ground seemed to come alive, instantly pinning her in place and rendering her unable to move. Moreover, it wasn’t just her. In the distance, Yue Zhenhong, who had erupted with his Qi Flame and charged back into the fray, also froze, bound by the shadows on the ground. The rest of the Superpower Members were imprisoned at the exact same moment.

THUD.

The humanoid lizard with the grayish-white scales seized the opportunity to step forward, the scepter in its hand flashing with light. Penelope, Raccoon Cat, and Yue Zhenhong all felt a chill run down their spines, convinced they were going to die here today.

CRACK!

Suddenly, a sound rang out, striking deep into everyone’s hearts. Yue Zhenhong, Raccoon Cat, and the others subconsciously turned their heads to look at the source of the noise.

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

A series of continuous shattering sounds echoed out. The petrified, grayish-white statues of Lu Chao and Ghost Element were starting to form cracks across their bodies. Stone fragments scattered as their figures became clearer and clearer, as if they were breaking free from their petrified state.

“Inspector!” Yue Zhenhong was overjoyed, and Raccoon Cat and the rest finally saw a glimmer of hope.

Sensing the shift, the three humanoid lizards all cast their gazes toward Lu Chao simultaneously. The black-scaled giant lizard that was suppressing Raccoon Cat suddenly leaped into the air. Raising its arms high like hammers, it smashed straight down toward Lu Chao.

The expressions on Raccoon Cat and the others changed once again as they watched the scaled claws plummet and strike the ground.

RUMBLE!

The subterranean pit trembled violently as a thunderous boom reverberated through the air. A massive, shallow crater was smashed out by the black-scaled lizard, and thick, billowing smoke and dust surged upward. Flying stone debris grazed everyone’s faces, leaving streaks of blood in their wake. Raccoon Cat and the others’ expressions shifted as they stared fixedly at the center of the dust cloud.
