Chapter 1512: Chapter 43: Drugging

During the father-son conversation, the fires of conflict in Europe, particularly Eastern Europe, continued to rage fiercely. Under Russia’s incitement, the underground organizations in Eastern Europe were fully leveraging the power of the masses, making the foreign intervention forces suffer greatly.

A small village named Liu Ban in Poland.

Liu Ban actually belonged to the western territory of former Belarus, but it is now nominally Polish land. However, the people here clearly lean more towards Russia, sharing the same East Slavic ethnicity.

At night, darkness fell upon this rather desolate village, and in a house at the southeast corner, guerrilla members were conspiring under the oil lamp.

"Rovtashenko Village Chief, I’ve heard a Polish White Bandits’ grain requisition team will soon be resting in your village. Is this information true?" A young man with a buzz cut asked Rovtashenko.

The Rovtashenko Village Chief was about forty years old, slightly balding. He puffed smoke from his pipe and said, "Yes, Popov Secretary, those beasts arrived in our village yesterday. They’re coming from the city of Belaros."

"It’s almost time for the potato harvest, yet these beasts are here to requisition again. This is the third forced requisition this year."

The main crop for the Belarusian people is potatoes. Previously, Belarus was the country with the highest per capita potato consumption in the world. One could say potatoes are the favorite staple food of Belarusians. Since potatoes were introduced to Russia, they have become the basic food crop for survival for Belarusians.

In other words, this barren land is only suitable for cultivating potatoes as a food crop. For the vast majority of Belarusians, there’s no better crop than potatoes.

Rovtashenko extended his thin, emaciated arm and said to Popov Secretary, "Since the Polish White Bandits and German bastards occupied Belarus, our lives have not improved but have become more miserable than during the Tsar’s era."

"The Polish White Bandits impose the heaviest taxes on Belarus, and there are numerous extortions. Last year, due to drought, our village had a poor harvest, yet the White Bandits not only did not show restraint but took away most of our food, causing one-third of the village to starve to death. Their killing, plundering, and raping are rampant—what happens to the good women..."

After a while, Rovtashenko suddenly contorted his face and said, "...My eldest son was merely arguing with them, but two White Bandits beasts smashed him to death with gunstocks."

Continuing with red eyes, a trembling Rovtashenko said, "Popov Secretary, you must fight for us! No matter the cost, we must avenge our dead kin."

After listening to Rovtashenko’s words, Popov and the members of the Russian Labor Party and guerrilla became silent. Some couldn’t help but curse angrily: "These beasts, they don’t even see us as humans."

Popov’s expression also turned somber, only feeling a stifled rage in his chest, difficult to let go. No matter how many times he faced such a hell on earth, he thought his heart had grown numb, but when faced with reality, he felt the anguish anew.

He said to the suffering Rovtashenko Village Chief, "Rovtashenko Village Chief, don’t say such things. We are all part of the suffering masses. My kin also have many who were killed by the White Bandits and bastards."

"Yet, this is not a reason for us to lament in impotence. It is because we must change this tragic state of affairs and the unfairness of fate that we, the Labor Party members, unite in efforts to overthrow the old world."

"A new life and beautiful future depend on us to win them. To achieve an era where everyone has enough to eat and fairness prevails, we must continually fight against reactionary forces..."

Having once more described the ideal world, Popov began to speak, "Rovtashenko Village Chief, do you wish for revenge?"

Rovtashenko said emotionally, "Of course, Popov Secretary, no matter what you want me to do, our village is willing to cooperate. We have no way to survive..."

Popov grasped Rovtashenko’s thin, rough hands and said, "Since this is the case, I hope your village can join and cooperate with our guerrilla operations. First, you need to tell us the detailed information about this nest of White Bandits, and then we will formulate a plan to destroy them."

Rovtashenko nodded fiercely and continued, "This White Bandits grain requisition team totals 128 people, with no heavy weapons, only rifles. The leader is Chelvrad, who used to be a notorious local hooligan. After the Tsarist Russian government collapsed, he infiltrated the military, acting as a stooge for the German bastards."

"He’s originally from our neighboring village but has been bad since childhood, always doing things like stealing chickens and dogs, and harassing the widows at the village head."

"Later, he grew up and joined a gang in Belaros, occasionally returning to the village to flaunt his power, extorting and blackmailing, and what happens to the neighbors—the smell of his reputation is unbearable. After the German bastards occupied Belaros, he somehow managed to become a puppet squad leader."

"Later, when the White Bandits government was established, his squad was conveniently recruited by the Polish White Bandits, becoming a real junior officer."

Popov asked, "Is his team composed of similar characters?"

Rovtashenko nodded and said, "Yes, they’re basically the local thugs and riffraffs, otherwise with their little ability, they couldn’t do the work of a grain requisition team."
