Chapter 1527: Chapter 48: Russia’s Plan for a Ceasefire

The time quickly moved to the end of 1923. The governments of Germany and Austria-Hungary finally withstood the Russian offensive. Both sides achieved a temporary military balance in regions such as Poland and Ukraine. Despite heavy casualties, the Russians were unable to break through the new defensive lines established in Poland and Ukraine.

In fact, starting from August, due to the reasons of previous wars, the successive defeats of armies in Poland, Ukraine, and countries like Germany and Austria, gave the Russian Labor Party the illusion that "imperialism" was vulnerable.

Then, in the ensuing months, the Russian government more actively stationed troops at the borders, hoping to restore the lands originally belonging to the Tsarist Russia era.

However, reality hit Russia hard. With the support of the people in Poland and Western Ukraine, the intervention armies and the national armies of Poland and Ukraine turned the tide despite being vastly outnumbered by Russian forces.

This was a rather comical situation. In Western Ukraine and Poland, due to the extremely weak industrial strength, the farmers, having an absolute population advantage, were completely uninterested in the Russian Labor Party.

The Russian Labor Party’s "penetration" into these areas not only failed to gain support but also faced constant reporting and resistance from the local populace.

Therefore, the situation has reversed now. In Poland and Western Ukraine, the intervention armies and the governments of the two countries received the support of the people.

It must be noted that the combat effectiveness of the Russian army was originally very poor. Their weapons equipment and army discipline were far inferior to the intervention forces. At best, they were on the same level as the government armies of Poland and Western Ukraine.

Thus, in the absence of support from the vast majority of the populace, the performance of the Russian army was very inadequate, being defeated by the few forces led by intervention armies from countries like Germany and Austria, which was a very normal situation.

From a historical perspective, the Russian ethnicity has never been good at warfare. They should be categorized as a belligerent people.

Moscow.

Entering winter, Moscow, this political center of red Russia, is once again covered by heavy snow. Under the gloomy sky, the atmosphere is particularly oppressive in this ancient Eastern European city.

Just as the world knows, Russians’ emotions are as dull as Russia’s weather, which can easily make people feel depressed.

Yet the Russian Labor Party has clearly brought something different to this ancient empire.

On the streets, party members lead crowds in actively clearing the snow on the roads. The bustling atmosphere contrasts with the gloomy Moscow weather, as if a conflict between man and nature, injecting a bit of vitality into this oppressive country.

For a city like Moscow, snow clearing is not a simple task. But under the example set by the Labor Party, most Moscow citizens participate in this activity without complaint.

And influenced by the atmosphere, even those who were initially reluctant to join in the activities have changed their minds, thinking it’s not so bad after all.

After all, the bureaucrats of the old era of Russia would not lead by example in such civil and municipal works, not to mention like the Labor Party, sweating and shoveling on the streets and roads through physical labor.

Of course, there are also many hardliners who clearly resent such collective labor.

Hayevich listlessly held a shovel at the back of the line, quietly complaining with a few companions pretending as well.

"These revolutionaries are just putting on a show, winning people’s hearts. Those ignorant fools still gratefully support them, it’s simply crazy, mad, stupid..."

Hayevich cursed the Labor Party and the people diligently working on the streets with all sorts of malicious words, spewing out like they cost nothing.

"Hey hey, Hayevich, what’s the point of cursing secretly? Why not directly run to the front and tell those people your thoughts." A companion said with ill intent.

Hayevich glared with venomous eyes at his tactless companion, saying, "Heh, Mikhail, do you think I’m an idiot? Just because you think you’re a fool doesn’t mean everyone else is brainless."

"I just can’t stand the Labor Party’s falsehoods. I’m not really looking to die, and if I really confront the Labor Party, do you think you can get away?"

"We are all ’remnants’ in the eyes of the Labor Party, not rooted, not red enough. If something happens to me, no one will escape. I know you usually don’t like me, but you shouldn’t expect the Labor Party to favor you for any other reason. We’re doing well just being alive right now."

Mikhail said helplessly, "I was just teasing a bit, and you get angry so easily. That’s not good. Remember that trouble comes from the mouth. You complain daily, but only we hear it, so it doesn’t matter. If others hear it, it’ll be trouble!"

Hearing the argument between the two, Stanislavsky said, "Alright, everyone say less, creating internal strife at this time, no wonder the Labor Party can seize state power."

"Previously, various anti-Labor Party organizations were broken by the Russian Labor Party due to this reason. At that time, the Russian Labor Party wasn’t strong, their influence was just limited to Saint Petersburg and Moscow and a few cities."

"Due to internal disunity, they ended up fighting separately, not only failing to drive the Russian Labor Party down, but got beaten instead."

Hayevich yawned and said, "Hum, should never have believed those democratic forces could take form. To overthrow the Russian Labor Party, it still relies on the nobles."
