Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Coming to the Door to Get Slapped
Evan Shelby glanced at the phone screen and immediately saw an email from that scumbag Mason Everett.
It roughly said:
[Dear Kian, I apologize for contacting you in such an abrupt and forward manner. I had hoped to arrange a meeting through Mr. Evan Shelby, but regrettably, the opportunity did not present itself.
The Everett Group’s fashion brand was once a member of the Valenti Fashion Association, an admission you personally approved as president. I’m not sure if you recall, but just a few days ago, The Everett Group was suddenly expelled from the association for reasons unknown...
I recently heard of your retirement from G.Y. I was wondering if you might be interested in the position of Chief Designer for the Everett Group? I am prepared to offer you the most generous compensation.
I understand that given the Everett Family’s current dire circumstances, inviting a legendary figure of your renown is quite audacious, but I would still like to humbly request the opportunity to meet with you in person.]
After reading the email, Evan Shelby’s expression couldn’t quite convey the "what the fuck" he was feeling inside. All he could think was how ridiculous it was.
"Has this Mason Everett lost his mind? You quit being the chief designer at G.Y., so why would you ever agree to be the chief designer for some piddling little Everett Group? What is he smoking?"
Sienna Everett settled into a nearby armchair and leaned back, a cool, stunning smile playing on her red lips. "Mason Everett values profit above all else. The Everett Family’s reputation is in the gutter, business is bleak, and he’s desperate for someone to save the day."
Evan Shelby reread the email, finding it even more laughable the second time.
"This Mason Everett... he sounds so pathetic, begging you to resurrect the Everett Family’s fashion brand. Tsk. He was so high and mighty when he was bullying you, wasn’t he?"
"Are you going to agree to meet with this loser?"
Sienna Everett raised an eyebrow. "I was just thinking about how to take him down, and he delivered himself right to my doorstep. Heh. Let me think... how should I surprise him?"
Hearing this, Evan Shelby’s azure eyes narrowed slightly, a look of marvel on his face. "Darling, have you really seen the light? No more defending the Everett Family? You’re even proactively going after them now?"
Sienna immediately shot him a glare. "Don’t call me that."
Evan Shelby was of mixed heritage and had grown up abroad, so he had a more open personality, casually throwing around terms like "darling" and "I miss you."
At Sienna’s words, Evan Shelby’s lips curved into a smile. His features were already deep-set and captivating, but when he smiled now, his ocean-blue eyes crinkled, making him look devastatingly handsome and charming.
While they were talking, Evan Shelby’s assistant finished putting away the luggage.
Sienna glanced at the time. Just as she was about to get up, her phone rang. It was a call from Julian Forrester. She answered it casually, exchanged a few words, and hung up.
Evan Shelby glimpsed her caller ID and raised an eyebrow. "That name... Isn’t he that... what’s-his-face?"
Sienna twisted open a bottle of water and took a swig. "Julian Forrester."
Evan: "Right, him! Your child husband!"
Sienna: "???"
Sienna nearly spat out her water. She quickly grabbed a tissue to dab at her lips, her eyes wide with surprise. "Where did you learn that term?"
Evan shrugged, his tone nonchalant. "I learned it in a book."
Sienna put down the tissue and tossed a comment his way, "You really need to brush up on your Chinese."
Hearing this, the corner of Evan’s mouth lifted in a barely-there smile. "Darling, is my Chinese not good enough? Are we having communication problems?"
Sienna: "There are no problems, but please don’t just throw terms like that around."
’Child husband?’
’It sounds so weird, okay?’
Evan shrugged again. "How am I using it wrong? That Julian Forrester... didn’t he grow up with you? Wasn’t there some kind of childhood engagement arranged? Doesn’t that fit the definition of a ’child husband’?"
Sienna was exasperated. "I’ve only mentioned all that to you, like, twice. You have a good memory."
Evan scoffed. "What’s the big deal? Is there anything my dear Kian tells me that I don’t remember?"
Sienna: "..."
Evan thought for a moment, his azure eyes narrowing. "Things like childhood engagements... they don’t always have to be taken seriously."
"Okay, enough about that." Sienna stood up, not wanting to bicker with him any further. With the casual wave of a boss treating their crew, she said, "Come on, I’ll take you to get something to eat!"
Sienna took Evan and his assistant to a restaurant for lunch.
After lunch, Evan sent his assistant back to the villa and asked Sienna to walk with him and show him around the city.
The road was lined with lush plane trees. A breeze rustled through them, sending a few leaves spinning through the air to land gently on their shoulders.
Evan spotted a men’s boutique on the side of the street and, intrigued, headed inside.
Sienna shook her head in resignation. ’The guy has a thing for quirky little trinkets.’ She pulled on her hat and mask and followed him into the shop.
Evan’s eyes swept over the shop, completely uninterested in the expensive clothing.
Suddenly, his blue eyes lit up as his long, fair fingers picked up a uniquely shaped brooch.
The brooch wasn’t ornate or elegant like most; instead, it was shaped like a piece of medieval armor, which was quite unusual.
It was a men’s boutique, and since there was nothing for her to buy, Sienna leaned lazily against a display counter to wait for him.
Seeing Evan eyeing a brooch and hesitating, Sienna, who was getting bored, called out, "Still haven’t decided? If you like it, just buy it. It’s not like you’re short on cash. Or I can get it for you, as a welcome-to-town gift."
Evan turned to look at her.
Under the shop’s bright lights, she stood out in her red dress. Her skin was fair, her long, wavy hair was draped down her back, and her slender fingers were tapping an impatient rhythm on the glass countertop.
She was already pulling out her card with a flourish, ready to pay for him.
The corner of Evan’s mouth lifted as he walked over to her. "Darling, are you always this impatient when you go shopping with people?"
Sienna’s eyes narrowed. "Try calling me that again."
Evan suddenly felt a threatening aura and raised his hands in surrender. "Okay, okay! I’ve made my choice."
Only then was Sienna satisfied. Her gaze fell upon a pair of men’s cufflinks nearby. They were made of obsidian and had a handsome design. With a slight flicker in her eyes, she decisively bought them.
’These cufflinks would be perfect for her child husband... Ah, screw that. Perfect for Julian.’
Once they were outside the shop, Evan, having seen her buy the cufflinks, narrowed his eyes and asked, "Those obviously aren’t for me. Who are they for?"
Sienna couldn’t be bothered to answer.
Evan clutched his chest dramatically, a wounded look in his vulnerable blue eyes. "You’re thinking about another man while you’re shopping with me? Am I not your favorite partner anymore?"
Sienna: "..."
...
「Veridian Gardens.」
Keith Sterling pulled up in a flashy pink sports car. He jumped out, slammed the door with a BANG, and sprinted toward the living room, yelling, "Julian! Julian!!"
Keith burst into the living room. Seeing Julian coming down the stairs, he rushed over. "Julian, have you seen the news today?"
