Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Sienna Everett’s True Identity?
The butler was startled and quickly tried to stop him. "Second Young Master, your leg..."
The butler looked at the man’s legs in the wheelchair, his eyes filled with sorrow. "Last month, the Eldest Young Master wanted to send you to manage the branch in Zavania, but you unfortunately broke your leg. You’ve been recuperating in this wheelchair for a month and still haven’t recovered."
"As the saying goes, bone and tendon injuries take a hundred days to heal. Your leg isn’t better yet. If you go to Celestria yourself, I’m afraid you’ll make it worse."
The man raised a hand, stopping the butler. "My leg isn’t important."
’His sister was what mattered most.’
His sister had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth, the only daughter in the family, the apple of everyone’s eye. But she had gotten lost when she was very young.
They had never given up searching for her over the years. The slightest clue or a sighting of a similar-looking girl would send them into an exhaustive investigation, but sadly, they always came up empty-handed.
The man gazed at the photo of Sienna Everett on his phone, his eyes exceptionally deep.
’This girl’s eyes and brows... there’s a slight resemblance to Mother’s when she was young...’
’This Sienna Everett... could she be my sister...?’
The butler was still worried. "Second Young Master," he urged, "it’s truly difficult for you to move. You can’t even get out of your wheelchair right now. To be safe, you really shouldn’t go yourself. I’ll send someone to investigate immediately."
The man refused again. "No need. I’m going myself."
The butler was genuinely concerned. "But your leg... you can’t even leave your wheelchair..."
Before the butler could finish, he abruptly fell silent, his eyes widening in astonishment.
The man who had been unable to walk just a moment ago suddenly stood up from the wheelchair...
He was standing...
...up.
The butler was so stunned he could have sworn. "Second Young Master, you... your leg is healed!"
The man kicked out his perfectly healthy legs, a sly, fox-like grin on his handsome face. "What do you mean, ’healed’? My leg was never injured in the first place. I just didn’t want to go to the Zavania branch, so I lied to my older brother and told him I broke it."
The butler: "..."
’Well, then...’
’Faking a limp for a month and sitting in a wheelchair for a month just to avoid managing the Zavania branch. Okay, that’s the Second Young Master for you!’
The man glanced at Sienna Everett’s photo on his phone again. "I’m going to Celestria myself. Right now."
The butler stopped trying to dissuade him and asked for instructions. "Should we inform the Madam about this?"
The man shook his head. "Don’t tell Mother yet."
For all these years, his mother had missed her lost daughter every single day. So many times, she’d thought they had found her, only to rush over full of hope and return steeped in disappointment.
He didn’t want to see his mother go through that disappointment and sorrow again.
’So, this time, I’ll wait until I’m certain before I tell her.’
The butler asked again, "Then should we inform the Eldest Young Master?"
The man shivered. "No."
’If my older brother finds out I was faking the limp, he really will break my leg.’
...
「In Celestria.」
Sienna Everett and Evan Shelby left the banquet hall. Just as they reached the hotel’s outdoor parking lot, two figures darted out from a corner. A closer look revealed they were Wyatt Everett and Dustin Everett.
The two brothers were flushed with excitement. "Sienna, we just watched the livestream! So you’re G.Y.’s chief designer, Kian!"
Sienna Everett frowned. ’Where did these two pop out from?’
Evan Shelby knew they were from the Everett family, and the wariness and hostility on his face were obvious.
Wyatt Everett kept his eyes on Sienna Everett and quickly explained, "Sienna, Dustin and I heard you were attending the design exchange banquet tonight, so we waited for you here in the parking lot. We finally caught you!"
Dustin Everett nodded emphatically. "My third brother and I have been waiting out here since the banquet started. We waited for over three hours, and we finally saw you come out!"
Their exposed skin was covered in large, red, swollen welts from mosquito bites.
There was nothing they could do; the mosquitoes in the corner were just too numerous to swat away.
In the three hours they spent waiting for Sienna Everett, the two of them had been a feast for the mosquitoes.
Wyatt Everett wanted to say more, but Sienna Everett turned to Evan Shelby. "Where’s your car parked? Let’s go."
Evan Shelby pointed nearby. "Just up ahead."
Sienna Everett: "Let’s go, then."
With that, she started walking toward the parking area.
Wyatt Everett was completely ignored. His heart felt as if it had been pierced by sharp shards of glass, and a bitter loneliness washed over him, dimming the light in his eyes.
Dustin Everett didn’t feel much better, his eyes stinging as he watched the backs of Sienna Everett and Evan Shelby walk away.
"Third Brother, should we... should we follow them...?"
Wyatt Everett lowered his gaze dejectedly, then suddenly remembered something. "Dustin, let’s go back to the Everett estate."
Dustin Everett: "Back to the Everett estate?"
Wyatt Everett: "Yes. Let’s go ask Mother what the real reason was for bringing Sienna back to the Everett family in the first place."
Dustin Everett’s eyes narrowed, and realization dawned on him. "Of course, Third Brother! If we find that out and tell Sienna, she’ll have to talk to us then!"
No sooner said than done, the two immediately headed back to the Everett estate, their spirits renewed.
Meanwhile, just as Sienna Everett and Evan Shelby reached the parking spot, a flashy pink sports car screeched to a halt beside them.
Seeing the eye-searingly flashy pink, Evan Shelby’s eyelid twitched violently.
Sure enough, the window rolled down to reveal Keith Sterling’s dashing, smiling face. "Sierra, hop in! My brother sent me to pick you up~~"
Evan Shelby clicked his tongue and looked at Sienna Everett. "Is that ’child husband’ of yours really that worried about you? Sending someone special just to take you home."
Sienna Everett: "...Can you please stop saying those two words, ’child husband’?"
Evan Shelby asked, "You don’t like the title?"
Sienna Everett: "Of course I don’t."
"But I think it’s got a nice ring to it." Evan Shelby’s lips curved into a slight smile, his blue eyes shifting to Keith Sterling in the driver’s seat. "Right, darling? What do you think?"
Hearing the term ’darling,’ Keith Sterling’s first reaction was that Evan Shelby was messing with Sienna Everett again.
A second later, he realized Evan was talking to him.
Keith Sterling: "..."
’Fuck!’
"My ass is what I think! Get the hell away from me!" Keith Sterling yelled at Evan Shelby, his voice fierce and his dislike for the man palpable.
The shout made Evan Shelby’s ears ring. He casually cleaned his ear with a finger. ’Tch, this guy gets triggered so easily.’
Sienna Everett looked on with an amused expression, a grin on her face. "Evan, you deserved that."
She then got into Keith Sterling’s car, and they headed back to Veridian Gardens together.
Evan Shelby: "..."
’Great. Now I’m the one getting shunned.’
...
「At the Everett estate, in the living room.」
Sheila Whitaker sat on the sofa with Shannon Everett nestled in her arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
Morgan Everett stood with his hands behind his back, his expression deeply displeased. He looked at Shannon Everett with frustration and disappointment. "Shannon, how could you steal Sienna Everett’s design draft? And now that your plagiarism has been exposed, you’ve done nothing but disgrace the Everett Family!"
This was the first time Shannon Everett had ever been scolded by Morgan Everett. She glanced timidly at her so-called father as more tears fell, her cries turning into hiccuping sobs.
Pained to see her this way, Sheila Whitaker quickly soothed Shannon’s back and looked at Morgan Everett in disapproval. "That’s enough, Morgan. Shannon is still a child, why are you being so hard on her? She made a mistake this time, she can just correct it next time, can’t she?"
Wyatt Everett and Dustin Everett had just returned to the Everett estate. Before they even stepped into the living room, they overheard Sheila Whitaker’s absurd words.
Wyatt Everett couldn’t take it anymore. He stormed over to Sheila Whitaker, his expression cold and severe. "Shannon Everett is a full-grown adult! What the hell do you mean, ’still a child’?! Correct it next time? Hah! The fact that Shannon Everett can pull off these devious, fraudulent stunts one after another just proves she’s rotten to the core!"
