Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Dustin Everett Cries and Begs Sienna Everett Not to Take Someone Else as a Disciple
Dustin Everett’s gaze suddenly turned piercing.
SLAP.
He slapped Shannon Everett across the face!
Shannon Everett was stunned by the blow, lifting a hand to her cheek.
"Dustin, you... how could you hit me?!"
He’d hit her so hard, her face was sure to swell.
Shannon Everett was already fuming. She had come on the show with Dustin Everett today hoping to bask in some reflected glory after he and SG officially met, wanting to latch onto the renowned SG herself.
Fate, however, had dealt her a cruel blow.
She never would have imagined that Sienna Everett was SG!
Watching everyone praise and admire Sienna Everett, the jealousy in Shannon Everett’s heart festered and grew uncontrollably, until she was burning with rage.
’That bitch Sienna Everett, how is she better than me at everything!’
’In the two years since Sienna Everett returned to the Everett family, she was nothing but an unloved wretch—unwanted by her father, mother, and brothers. I, Shannon Everett, should be the one soaking up all the praise and attention.’
But now, everything had changed.
Shannon couldn’t accept it, and she couldn’t stand it!
Clutching her swollen cheek, her mind growing more warped and vicious, Shannon offered some advice laced with insinuation.
"Dustin, I know the fact that our sister is SG must be a huge blow to you..."
"Sigh. Our sister, really... Why didn’t she tell you sooner that she was SG?"
Shannon’s words were, without a doubt, meant to fan the flames.
Of course, Dustin heard the subtext. He stared at her with a cold sneer.
His stare made her skin crawl. "D-Dustin, why are you looking at me like that?"
Dustin composed himself, his smile softening a little.
"Shannon, back when I was in that dark place, you wrote the lyrics to a song called ’Brightest Star’ to encourage me. Besides the lyrics, there were also a couple of encouraging words. Do you remember what they were?"
Hearing this, Shannon’s fingers clenched. She forced an unnatural smile and stammered, "Dustin, it’s been so long... I’ve forgotten."
"Forgotten, have you." Dustin gently raised a hand and tucked a strand of Shannon’s hair behind her ear.
But in the next instant, Dustin’s expression turned frigid, and he yanked her hair.
Shannon cried out in pain, her face contorting in panic. "Dustin! I... I just forgot, that’s all!"
Gripping her hair tightly, an all-consuming rage burned in his eyes.
"You’re lying! There were no encouraging words besides the lyrics! I was just testing you, and you fell right into the trap!"
"Because you never wrote ’Brightest Star’ at all, did you!"
"That’s why you got the name wrong on the show earlier! You called it ’The Brightest Flower’!"
’He should have realized it sooner. How could Shannon have possibly gotten the name of such important, encouraging lyrics wrong?’
"’Brightest Star’... Sienna wrote it for me, didn’t she!"
Dustin’s grip on Shannon’s hair tightened, the towering rage in his voice threatening to incinerate her.
The pain made her eyes sting and tears well up. "Dustin, please don’t... I’m scared..."
"Scared?" Rage and regret warred within his chest, desperate for an outlet. "Why weren’t you scared when you were stealing credit from Sienna Everett? Huh?!"
He yanked her hair, slamming her hard onto the floor!
He hated Shannon for stealing Sienna’s credit.
But he hated himself even more!
Back then, he had never treated Sienna with a shred of kindness, even taking his own suffering out on her.
And yet Sienna, seeing her brother trapped in darkness, had still felt for him and had written those lyrics to try and help him.
Unfortunately, Dustin had been so scornful of anything from Sienna that he wouldn’t even deign to look at it, as if a single glance would dirty his eyes.
That was how Shannon had found her opening. She’d claimed she would help pass the lyrics to Dustin on Sienna’s behalf, but instead, she took all the credit.
Sienna had been forced to find another way, using her identity as SG to secretly guide and help Dustin.
As Dustin connected the dots, his heart seized with a sharp pain, and a bitter, salty tear traced a path from the corner of his mouth.
’Sienna, in the Everett family... just how much had she been wronged and bullied...’
’And he himself... shamelessly accepting SG’s help while being a heartless monster who insulted and bullied Sienna...’
’Just how much... did he owe Sienna...’
’He could probably never make it up to her in this lifetime...’
Clutching his chest, which ached so badly he could barely breathe, Dustin gasped for air like a dying fish.
He gave the fallen Shannon a vicious kick, then stumbled off in the direction Sienna had gone.
He chased her all the way to the parking lot outside.
There, Dustin saw Sienna Everett and Orion Hawthorne walking toward the exit.
Dustin was suddenly overcome with a hesitant fear, like someone returning home after a long absence. He wanted to run to Sienna, but he didn’t dare.
On some strange impulse, he began to tail them like a thief, keeping his distance.
Dustin stared at Sienna’s side profile, not daring to blink.
Sunlight bathed the young woman in a sacred glow. Her skin was as fair as the first winter snow—translucent and so delicate it looked like it would break at a touch.
Her eyelashes were long and thick, and her eyes sparkled with tiny flecks of light, as if the Milky Way had tipped over and poured all its stars into her gaze.
Dustin stared until his eyes began to sting, but he refused to blink even once.
’His sister was so beautiful.’
’A young woman so bright and lovely, so full of life with every glance, was born to be cherished and adored.’
’But they, her family...’
’All the suffering she had endured came from her own family.’
’What a bitter irony!’
’Dustin had never hated himself so much. He hated himself enough to want to die!’
Suddenly, he overheard Sienna and Orion’s conversation.
Orion Hawthorne walked beside Sienna, turning to look at her with a roguish smile playing on his lips.
"Sienna Everett, since you’ve severed your master-student relationship with Dustin Everett, have you considered taking on a new student?"
Sienna gave him a slow, unhurried glance.
Orion immediately pointed to himself, volunteering enthusiastically. "Take me! I’m a top celebrity with over eighty million fans. I won’t embarrass you in the slightest!"
"Besides, I love art! For the sake of art, I don’t even care about money! I spent tens of millions to have you write a song for me last time, and I didn’t even bat an eye! So please, take me as your student, huh?"
Sienna: "No."
Orion wheedled, "Don’t refuse so quickly! I may not know how to compose, but I’m willing to learn! My music theory is excellent, and I really, really want to write a song myself—lyrics and all!"
"Sienna Everett, Dustin Everett never paid you a mentoring fee, did he? Well, I can! No matter how much it is, I can afford it!"
If there was one thing he had, it was money.
Sienna’s expression darkened at his words. His solution to everything was to throw money at it.
’Do I really look that obsessed with money?’
However, when she heard Orion say he wanted to write a song all by himself, her interest was piqued. She felt a little inclined to help him.
Sienna said thoughtfully, "I’ll think about it."
Hearing this, the color drained from Dustin’s face. Unable to restrain himself any longer, he rushed forward to stop them. "No!"
Orion jumped, startled, and clutched his chest. "Dustin Everett, what the hell is wrong with you! Staging a sneak attack!"
Dustin hadn’t meant to ambush them, but he couldn’t be bothered to explain. His eyes were fixed on Sienna. "Master, don’t take anyone else as your student..."
Sienna had noticed Dustin following them for a while now but had simply chosen to ignore him.
An icy chill, devoid of any warmth, surfaced in Sienna’s eyes.
"Dustin Everett, who I take as a student has nothing to do with you."
"Do you actually presume to interfere with my decisions?"
