But the System had been with Lilia for so long—it was a seasoned schemer. Threats, temptations, deception, manipulation—it wielded them all with ease.
Although Lilia couldn’t hear exactly what they were communicating, she could see the light of that ball dimming visibly.
From its initial “I’d rather die than submit,” to “bargaining,” and finally to “barely hanging on.”
About a quarter of an hour later.
That chaotic energy fluctuation finally calmed down.
The System’s triumphant voice rang out in Lilia’s mind:
【Done!】
【Work finished!】
Lilia brushed the melon seed shells off her hands and stood up. “Negotiation successful?”
【Naturally.】 The System’s tone carried the satisfaction of someone who had just come back from a luxurious spa. 【Don’t you know who I am? Under my patient guidance and reasonable persuasion, this little broken ball has deeply realized its mistakes and voluntarily… ahem, been forced to become this System’s subordinate plugin.】
Lilia looked at the ball of light.
The once lively and even middle-finger-flipping ball was now drooping in midair like a frost-bitten eggplant.
That gray, mysterious glow was still there, but its former arrogance had completely vanished, replaced by a sense of weathered submission after being beaten down by reality.
Sensing Lilia’s gaze, the ball of light floated over in an extremely fawning manner, even rubbing itself against the hem of her pants ingratiatingly.
Its thoughts transmitted again—this time incomparably respectful, even a little sycophantic:
‘Greetings, Boss.’
‘I failed to recognize greatness before. Please forgive my ignorance. From now on, I’ll be your brick—move me wherever you need me.’
‘If you say go east, I won’t go west. If you tell me to catch dogs, I won’t chase chickens.’
Lilia’s mouth twitched.
This style…
Why was it exactly the same as the System’s shameless attitude?
“What exactly did you say to it?” Lilia couldn’t help asking the System in her mind. “How did you brainwash it like this?”
The System chuckled, hiding its merits and fame.
【Nothing much, just showed it how thick my firewall is.】
【Something that’s never seen the world like it—once it saw that, it knelt on the spot.】
Lilia was speechless.
Sure enough, it took a villain to deal with another villain.
“Alright, stop bragging.” Lilia extended her hand. “Since it’s settled, come in.”
This time, the ball of light didn’t dare pull any tricks.
It obediently turned into a streak of light and drilled into Lilia’s palm.
Boom!
A cold and obscure energy surged up her arm and rushed straight into her brain.
At that moment—
Lilia felt everything around her slow down.
Dora chewing gemstone fragments, the purple flames flickering in Bulara’s eye sockets, even the dust floating in the air—all seemed as if a slow-motion button had been pressed.
【Ding!】
【Congratulations to the Host for successfully integrating Mythical-Grade Item: Hourglass of Time (Incomplete Version)!】
【Skill “Time Stop” has been greatly enhanced!】
【Current maximum duration of Time Stop increased to: 5 minutes!】
【Cooldown reduced to: 12 hours!】
Lilia suddenly opened her eyes.
Five minutes!
And the cooldown was cut in half!
This wasn’t just upgrading from a bicycle to a motorcycle—this was going from a cheap van to a Ferrari!
With these five minutes, if she ever encountered Hera’s insane “punishments” again, she could at least run a couple of miles away!
“I’m rich…”
Lilia couldn’t help grinning, revealing a greedier smile than even Dora’s.
“This trip was damn worth it!”
At that moment, Bulara suddenly moved.
The purple flames in her eyes extinguished, returning to her usual rigid mechanical tone:
“Since the mission is complete, Lady Lilia, please return immediately. Her Majesty… has already begun urging.”
Lilia’s smile froze.
She had almost forgotten there was still a big demon king waiting at home.
She looked at the treasury, now stripped down to its bare ground, then at Dora, who was still stuffing gold coins into her mouth, and waved her hand:
“Dora! Stop eating! Pack it up and take it with us!”
“We’re going home!”
Home… to give Hera that old woman a huge “surprise”!
“Burp—”
Dora let out a thunderous belch. She licked her lips with lingering satisfaction, looking at the thoroughly looted treasury with regret in her eyes.
If only that winged braised fish could be eaten too.
Lilia wasn’t much better. Looking at her bulging System Backpack, she felt like she was walking on air. This wasn’t a mission—it was wholesale shopping.
“Let’s go, let’s go!”
Lilia waved grandly like a bandit leader returning to the village with loot. “Bulara, remember—don’t tell Her Majesty how much we took. Just say… just say we took a little for travel expenses.”
Just as Lilia was about to give this artificial idiot a lesson in political awareness, a faint “click” suddenly came from a corner of the treasury.
The sound wasn’t loud.
But everyone froze instantly.
The half-chewed ruby in Dora’s mouth dropped to the ground with a “plop.”
In the darkest corner of the treasury—where even the glow of luminous pearls couldn’t reach—a stone door that had originally blended seamlessly with the wall was slowly opening inward.
The door wasn’t big—just enough for one person to squeeze through. From the crack came not light, but a cold wind carrying a fishy, salty scent, sending chills down the spine.
Lilia subconsciously stepped back and pushed Dora, her meat shield, forward.
“What’s going on?” Lilia lowered her voice. “Sera, does your family treasury have this kind of hidden back door?”
The pink-haired loli Sera was hugging her knees on the ground. Hearing this, she shook her head like a rattle drum, her two pink ahoge strands flailing wildly: “I don’t know! I don’t know! Mom never told me there was a door here!”
“Really don’t know?” Lilia narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “You’re the gatekeeper.”
“I’m just a worker!” Sera looked like she was about to cry. “I just sit over there watching the crystal ball and eating snacks—who would go poking into this dark place for no reason!”
Under normal circumstances, Lilia would have already slipped away.
But having just obtained the Hourglass of Time, combined with the confidence brought by the mountain of gold in her backpack, that reckless part of her heart began to stir again.
This was the Merfolk’s thousand-year treasury.
The things out in the open were already this valuable—so what level of treasure would be hidden behind something like this secret door?
What if there was some Divine Artifact inside that could hang Hera up and beat her…
Lilia swallowed.
“I’ll go take a look.”
In the end, she couldn’t resist the temptation and let go of Dora’s tail.
“You guys wait here. I’ll just peek from the doorway—if anything’s wrong, I’m running.”
As she hyped herself up, Lilia carefully moved toward the stone door.
Holding her breath, she edged along the wall until she reached it.
