After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 296 - 295: We Go to Get the Medicine, Nine Deaths and One Life
Chapter 296: Chapter 295: We Go to Get the Medicine, Nine Deaths and One Life
The man stared at me in terror, as if he had seen something horrifying.
"Considering I just became a mom today, I’ve already been merciful enough."
I kicked the man out, then walked to the door and opened it.
The ones in the hallway had all been dealt with by Asher and his team.
Zeke Shaw was outside, too. He must have heard the commotion. "Get back to your room, now!"
I glanced back at the woman, who had been tortured to within an inch of her life. "Do you want to come with us?"
In an environment like this, it would be difficult for a woman to survive on her own.
We’d already taken in Mason Carter; one more person wouldn’t make a difference.
Besides, she had just risked her life to help me.
The woman burst out crying. As she straightened her hair, I finally got a clear look at her face. She was that celebrity—the one the young master of the Sutherland family had saved in the VIP ballroom.
She frantically put on her coat and limped out, clutching her room key as she followed us.
"Thank you," she said, her voice choked with sobs. "My name is Stella Abbott."
I froze for a moment. "You share a name with my daughter."
Stella Caldwell adorably reached a hand out to Stella Abbott. "Pretty lady, my name is Stella, too."
Stella Abbott quickly wiped her hands on her clothes, afraid she was too dirty. "Thank you all."
She had thought she would die at their hands.
"Everyone to my room for a meeting," Zeke Shaw announced.
I brought Stella Abbott into our room and told her to take a shower. I found some topical ointment in our first-aid kit and left it for her on the bathroom counter. "We’re going next door. You’ll be safe in here, so don’t leave the room for any reason. We’ll be back in a bit."
I took the room key, leaving Stella Abbott inside.
Her eyes red and her body trembling, Stella Abbott thanked me.
"Don’t be afraid. I’ll have Adrian and Stella watch over you." I ruffled the two kids’ hair. "Mommy has a mission for you. The pretty lady is taking a shower. You two can play in the living room and protect her, okay?"
Adrian Lancaster and Stella nodded, sitting quietly on the sofa.
I stepped outside, closed the door, and after making sure everything was secure, I followed Asher into Zeke Shaw’s room.
"Did I hear a scream from the hallway earlier?" I whispered to Asher.
Asher put on an innocent face. "The guy who attacked you? I don’t know how it happened, but he fell and broke his hand. Just screaming up a storm. What bad luck."
I was speechless. Asher really never lets anything go.
"We’re in international waters now, a deep-sea area, and our satellite phones can no longer reach our contacts. Command’s orders are to protect ourselves. They’ve already notified the peacekeeping police in the Sarosian Region, who will coordinate with us on this mission. Once the ship’s supplies are depleted, it will have to make port. As soon as it docks, we can coordinate an attack from both inside and out."
Zeke Shaw briefed us on the situation.
I picked up the binoculars from his bed, walked out to the living room, and looked out from the balcony. "This ship won’t make port, even when its supplies run out. We’re getting closer and closer to uncharted waters..."
’Through the binoculars, I could see several other vessels following us. Those must be ships from the Genetics Organization.’ "The Genetics Organization is closing in, but they’re in no hurry to board and ’rescue’ anyone. They’ve probably decided to just cut their losses. As long as this ship disappears beneath the waves, they’ll be safe."
This ship holds too many of the Genetics Organization’s secrets.
There are over a thousand people on this ship from countries all over the world. If they all make it to shore, those secrets will be exposed.
Therefore, everyone on this ship is trapped in a no-win situation.
The Genetics Organization won’t let us reach the shore, and they won’t let the members of the Resistance on this ship reach the shore either.
And the Resistance, in their quest to kill all of the Genetics Organization’s wealthy benefactors, will also do whatever it takes to keep this ship from docking.
From a certain perspective, in the eyes of both sides, everyone on this ship is already dead.
On the bed, Madeline Quinn coughed weakly, her eyes turning red. "Cece... are we... are we never going to make it back?"
"Don’t worry. I won’t let you die," I promised, turning back to Madeline Quinn.
The room fell silent.
Lucas Grant said nothing, his mood palpably dark.
Felix Foster didn’t speak either, apparently lost in thought.
Mason Carter, a tourist who had lost his family and survived the massacre, was huddled in a corner, crying silently.
Madeline Quinn’s face was ghastly pale, and she coughed from time to time.
Noticing Madeline Quinn’s condition, Mason Carter rushed over to check on her. "She’s running a fever. There’s a risk of infection. She needs antibiotics."
Mason Carter was a doctor; he could see that Madeline Quinn’s condition was very serious.
Zeke Shaw’s heart clenched. He rushed forward to feel Madeline Quinn’s forehead. "Why didn’t you say you were feeling sick?"
Madeline Quinn shook her head, her eyes red. "I didn’t want to make you worry..."
I clenched my fists and stepped forward. "The ship’s medical bay should have a full supply of medicine. Tell me what you need, and I’ll go get it."
"It’s too dangerous out there," Mason Carter said nervously.
’Going out now is basically a suicide mission.’
It must be chaos outside by now. Since supplies are distributed using room keys, they’ve surely taken control of all the medicine. Anyone who needs medication for so much as a headache will have to go to the medical bay.
The medical bay is guaranteed to be extremely dangerous right now.
"We don’t know when this ship will reach shore, or if it ever will. She can’t just wait it out," I said, my voice heavy.
’Even if it’s a lion’s den, I have to brave it. Madeline Quinn... she can’t die.’
’All I know is that she’s my best friend.’
Madeline Quinn looked at me and closed her eyes, tears rolling down her cheeks. She seemed to want to say something but lacked the strength.
"I’ll go with you," Zeke Shaw said. He knew that if I was going, Asher would definitely come with me.
"No way. It’s too dangerous for just a few of you to go. We should all go together." Lucas Grant stretched lazily, then glanced at Felix Foster.
Felix Foster snapped back to reality and nodded. "Yeah, let’s all go."
Lucas Grant was clever enough to know they couldn’t leave Mason Carter behind alone. After all, he was still an outsider and couldn’t be fully trusted. "You’re a doctor, so you’re coming with us. Otherwise, we won’t know which drugs to grab."
"I... I can’t. It’s too dangerous. I’ll just hold you all back," Mason Carter stammered nervously.
He was clearly terrified. "Besides, if I stay, I can look after her. Don’t worry. I swear I won’t leave this room until you get back."
I glanced at Zeke Shaw, then checked the time. "I’ll bring Adrian and Stella over. Stella Abbott should be done with her shower by now. I’ll have all of them come here and stay with Madeline."
’I don’t trust Mason Carter, but I do trust the kids.’
’From what I can tell, Mason Carter doesn’t have any malicious intent; he’s just a coward who’s afraid of dying. We can let him stay.’
Asher nodded and went to bring Stella Abbott and the two children over. "This room has food and water. Remember, don’t leave for any reason until we get back, and don’t open the door for anyone, understand?"
Stella Abbott nodded.
Asher crouched down and looked at Adrian Lancaster. "You’re the big brother, and you’re a man. You have to protect your sister, protect yourself, and protect Auntie Madeline. She’s your mom’s best friend, understand?"
Madeline Quinn’s eyes lit up. As if struck by a sudden burst of energy, she propped herself up on her arms and sat up, staring at the two children in shock. "How long was I unconscious? What did I miss?"
She rubbed her eyes. "These two kids look so much like you two..."
I chuckled and made the introductions. "This is my son, and this is my daughter. They were just born today. I had a pain-free delivery, and they came out walking."
Madeline Quinn gasped. "You’re kidding..."
Adrian Lancaster politely greeted Madeline Quinn. "Hello, Auntie Madeline. My name is Adrian Lancaster, and my sister’s name is Stella Caldwell."
Madeline Quinn was thrilled for a long moment before looking at me. "I’ll take good care of them. You all be careful and come back as soon as you can."
I nodded and glanced at Asher and the others. "Everyone comes back safe."
"The pharmacy is located below the medical bay. To get there, we’ll have to go through the bay. This is going to be a tough fight," Felix Foster said quietly.
I understood. This trip to the medical bay was a life-or-death mission.
But Madeline Quinn’s high fever wasn’t breaking, and we couldn’t just stand by and watch her die from an infection.
