After I Died, the Scumbag Went Mad
Chapter 297 - 296: I’m Just a Genius, Not a God
Chapter 297: Chapter 296: I’m Just a Genius, Not a God
The medical bay.
I was a bit surprised. We hadn’t seen a single person on the way here.
Most people don’t have a killer instinct; they prefer to hide in their rooms.
The few who do have that killer instinct have formed gangs, slaughtering people everywhere just to get their hands on more resources.
"It’s been unnaturally quiet this whole way," Zeke Shaw said, frowning.
Everyone had noticed. The quiet was so complete it was unsettling.
I was about to keep walking, but Asher pulled me back with one hand and stopped Lucas Grant and Zeke Shaw as well.
Obviously, he’d noticed something was wrong.
But Felix Foster was still walking ahead cockily, lost in his own world. Asher didn’t stop him, and he didn’t notice that his "good teammates" behind him had all stopped.
"The calm before the storm." Felix Foster shrugged, still swaggering along. "Our history books say that when things are out of the ordinary, something wicked is afoot. We should be careful. There could be an ambush somewhere..."
"Fuck!" Felix Foster was at the front. Before he could even finish his sentence, someone with a knife rushed out and slashed at him.
’What a jinx.’
Felix Foster kicked the person away, then looked back, stunned. "Holy shit, are you guys in on this? So not cool."
Lucas Grant couldn’t help but laugh. "Serves you right for strutting around like you own the place."
Felix beat up the ambusher, then looked up and saw seven or eight people sitting leisurely around the corner, eating snacks.
Obviously, they were lying in wait, and this unlucky bastard who rushed out was just cannon fodder.
"Where you headed, little bro?" From the corner, a stocky man with his foot propped up on the wall asked coldly.
Felix Foster clearly looked like a high schooler, just one who acted more mature for his age. These guys didn’t take him seriously at all.
"To the medical bay. Could you big bros please let me pass? My older sister has a high fever, and I need to get some medicine," Felix Foster said, playing the part of a good kid.
"Little bro, this is the only way to the medical bay. It’s not that you can’t pass, but you gotta know the rules. What have you got that’s valuable for us?" the leader asked.
Felix Foster looked down at the watch on his wrist. "This watch is probably the only thing I have that’s worth anything. See..."
"Hahaha..." The men laughed. "We’re on a ship, and who knows where those bastards are even taking us. It’s nice that your watch is valuable..."
The man reached out and took Felix’s watch. "But food is more important on this ship. How about you give us your room card?"
"You guys look like reasonable people. How about this: we’ll give you a room card and all the valuables we have on us, and you let us pass. What do you say?" Seeing that Felix Foster wasn’t getting anywhere, Lucas Grant walked over to try and negotiate.
The man looked at Lucas Grant and smiled. "Alright. Let’s see what valuables you’ve got."
Lucas Grant took off his watch as well. "A Rolex. Worth about a hundred thousand."
The man nodded. "Okay. Give me the room card, and the two of you can pass."
Lucas Grant handed over Mason Carter’s white room card and his watch.
It stung, but there was no other choice. A small price to pay to avoid trouble.
I glanced at Asher, then looked myself over. I... didn’t have anything valuable on me.
"What about you two?" The leader stood up, looking at me.
I shook my head. "I don’t wear jewelry. I don’t have anything valuable. My family’s poor."
"You’re not bad-looking. You stay. Let them go get the medicine." The man pinched my cheek, his intentions clearly malicious.
’I sucked in a sharp breath and offered a three-second moment of silence for the man’s hand.’
Sure enough, before his hand could even drop, Asher caught it.
His face was devoid of expression as he seemed to give it a gentle twist, followed by a CRACK.
The man, despite his thick muscles, had a face twisted in pain and shock.
He hadn’t expected the tall, skinny Asher to be so strong.
"If you don’t want it anymore, we can get rid of it." Asher’s voice was low. In a reverse grip, he seized the man’s neck and applied sudden pressure. In less than three seconds, the man passed out.
He didn’t even have time to cry out in pain.
Seeing Asher make a move, the other men couldn’t sit still any longer. They all shot to their feet and charged forward to attack.
Felix Foster and Lucas Grant cursed. "You should’ve said you were gonna fight from the start! My watch was a total waste!"
Lucas Grant and Felix Foster kicked down two of them from behind, and a chaotic brawl erupted.
There were seven or eight of them, and I didn’t even have to lift a finger... When Asher went berserk, he could take them all down by himself.
"See? You can piss off anyone, but you don’t piss off a madman." Lucas Grant grimaced as he watched Asher knock the last guy out against a wall, instinctively ducking behind Felix Foster. "Is he even human...? With that grip strength, I feel like he could crush someone’s skull."
Felix Foster flexed his own fingers. "I can do that too. Want me to try it on you?"
Lucas Grant gave Felix Foster a disgusted look. "Give you an inch and you take a mile. Let’s go."
After tying up the unconscious men and tossing them into a service corridor, we hurried toward the medical bay.
But as it turned out, it wasn’t that simple.
These guys were nothing.
The real danger... was the rich men’s bodyguards who had guns.
Not much farther, we saw two bodyguards in black suits at the entrance to the medical bay. They were clearly guarding it.
A number of wealthy people were hiding in the medical bay, and their bodyguards were jointly guarding the place to prevent members of The Resistance from getting close and killing them.
"I don’t want any trouble. We just want to get some medicine." I walked forward with my hands up.
’It’s the only way right now.’
’They’re the ones with the guns.’
"No one is allowed in or out of the medical bay," one of them said coldly, aiming his gun at us.
"Medicine is a shared resource for everyone. A crisis has occurred. If we don’t stick together, the enemy will eventually fight their way here. How long can you hold out then? Why don’t you let us in to get some medicine? We’ll find a way to contact the police and get us all rescued and brought back to Meridia as soon as possible." Zeke Shaw stepped forward, revealing his identity as a police officer.
The guards exchanged a look, then used their earpieces to notify the people inside.
Soon, someone opened the door. It was the young master of the Sutherland Family, the one named Isaac Sullivan.
"What medicine do you need?" he asked.
"Antibiotics," I said quickly.
"Wait here a moment. I’ll go find a doctor and get them," he said before turning and leaving.
’I actually trusted this guy. He had stood up for Stella Abbott, which meant he wasn’t a bad person.’
’But I underestimated human nature...’
Soon, Isaac Sullivan came back out. He wasn’t carrying any medicine, though. He’d been thrown out by the people inside.
Isaac Sullivan looked helpless. "They refuse to share the medicine. They say medical supplies are limited and they need to save them for emergencies."
"Then what are you doing out here?" Felix Foster snapped.
Isaac Sullivan looked down, a bit aggrieved. "They said I was being a bleeding heart and told me to get lost... so they kicked me out too."
I rubbed the bridge of my nose. ’I knew I shouldn’t have counted on him.’
"How many people are inside?" I asked in a low voice.
"Thirty-one bodyguards. Plus these two outside, that’s thirty-three total. There are a dozen or so employers, all of them on good terms with Walter Carter." Isaac Sullivan was implying that our chances of forcing our way in were slim.
Walter Carter was the one who severely injured Madeline Quinn. He even tried to take her heart for a transplant. After we exposed him, he wanted us dead. There was no way he would give us the medicine.
I frowned. I really couldn’t think of a solution, so I could only look at Asher.
’Right now, Asher is our only hope.’
Sure enough, everyone’s eyes landed on Asher.
Asher’s expression seemed to say: ’I’m just a genius, not a god...’
