Chapter 547: Nothing More Than This

Aside from these two Strength Element Superpower Users, the other members were holding their superpowers at the ready, waiting for the right opportunity. Stone Shields hovered on either side of Nina Jacobs. The two Strength Element Superpower Users smashed their fists into them without hesitation. The Iron Fists of a Strength Element Superpower User could shatter any rock. However, the Stone Shields that should have crumbled instantly turned into soft, yielding gravel. The more force they applied, the harder it was to pull their hands out.

"What is... this?" One of the Strength Element Superpower Users tried to break the Stone Shield apart with his free hand, only to have both hands sucked in. In mere moments, both Strength Element Superpower Users lost their ability to attack.

"You can dish out power but can’t pull it back. So much for that." Nina Jacobs’s words gave them an immediate sense of dread. A second later, a dazzling Fire Dragon roared toward them. With a mere flick of its tail, the two tall, burly Strength Element Superpower Users were sent flying simultaneously!

Several vines crept along the ground, attacking Nina Jacobs from behind. The Wood Element Ability User, Finn Warner, thought this was the perfect opportunity. However, the moment before those vines touched her ankles, they suddenly burst into flames without warning! The fire rapidly spread back in the opposite direction. If an ice wall hadn’t blocked it in time, Finn Warner would have been engulfed by the flames.

"Careful! She really isn’t simple." Ianna Jacobs’s gaze grew more serious. They hadn’t even seen when Nina Jacobs activated her superpower.

"It’s getting late. Come at me together." Nina Jacobs checked the time. After the hassle of saving those people just now, it was about time to head back to the base.

"Alright, that was just an appetizer.

"Ianna, with me here, I won’t let you lose."

A man in a black trench coat slicked back his hair as blue lightning rapidly crawled around his feet. He kicked out a cluster of Thunder Balls. He expected Nina Jacobs to dodge. As long as she jumped away, the surrounding Gold Spikes and wood thorns would strike her all at once. However, the Thunder Balls were blocked by a sand shield. Immediately after, several other superpowers were also repelled by that very same sand shield.

"What exactly is the deal with her shield?" a Female Superpower User couldn’t help but ask.

"Who cares? Just break it to pieces!" The Thunder Element man’s superpower surged around him. Several streaks of Thunder Superpower blasted simultaneously toward Nina Jacobs inside the sand shield.

"Looks like he’s also an Intermediate." Nina Jacobs didn’t underestimate her opponents. In her past life, Ianna Jacobs had these same people by her side, and back then, they were indeed considered heavyweights in the City D Base. Right now, the outside of the sand shield was covered in dense lightning, completely obscuring Nina Jacobs from view.

"Leo Garcia, watch out!" Finn Warner shouted.

Leo Garcia had all his attention focused straight ahead, entirely unaware that the earlier Fire Dragon was already hovering in the air behind them! The Fire Dragon began shooting streaks of Fire Blades from its mouth at the group, sending everyone below into a panicked scramble to dodge. The Thunder Superpower outside the sand shield fully dissipated. By the time the group recovered their wits, they found that Nina Jacobs had vanished from her original spot.

"You’re quite something, but this ends here." Ianna Jacobs looked at Nina Jacobs, who had already retreated several meters away. She placed her hands on the ground, instantly freezing it. A thick layer of ice rapidly spread across the earth toward Nina Jacobs. Ice Spikes jutted out from the frost, and even the ground behind Nina Jacobs was now coated in a sheet of ice. Whether she moved forward or backward, she had nowhere to run.

Looking at the Ice Spikes thrusting toward her from the ground, Nina Jacobs said, "Your superpower can’t hold out much longer, can it?" Freezing the ground seemed to consume a lot of superpower energy, and the thickness of the ice layer was already noticeably uneven.

"What did you say?" Ianna Jacobs didn’t catch that at first.

Just then, the ice surface began to crack. With a loud CRACK, the entire layer of ice shattered! Before Ianna Jacobs could react, a wave of intense heat, accompanied by billows of steaming white vapor, washed over her face.

"Ahhh!"

Hearing the agonizing screams coming from different directions within the white fog, Ianna Jacobs immediately knew things had gone terribly wrong. She swiftly manipulated her Water Element Superpower to disperse the steam, only to see her entire team lying scattered on the ground. She hadn’t even seen clearly what had just happened!

BAM!

A flying kick landed squarely on her abdomen, sending Ianna Jacobs’s body crashing heavily into the vehicle.

"I said, it’s time for you to get lost."

When Ianna Jacobs opened her eyes, she saw Nina Jacobs standing tall atop a stone platform. The stone platform was peculiar—its surface was covered in spiderweb cracks, revealing glowing orange magma churning inside. The magma rapidly spilled onto the ground, flowing quickly toward them! The road was only so wide; if they didn’t leave now, they would be swallowed whole by the molten rock.

"Go, let’s go!" Clutching her abdomen, Ianna Jacobs scrambled into the car, not forgetting to shoot one last, deep look back at Nina Jacobs.

"Captain, are you alright?" Holden Shaw, who had been unable to contain himself in the background, instantly teleported to Nina Jacobs’s side. He had thought Nina Jacobs was going to go on a killing spree, but the two vehicles were already driving off in the distance. It seemed she had let them off the hook.

"I’m fine." Nina Jacobs retracted her superpower. Killing people was a way to solve problems. Sparing them was also a way to avoid trouble. She could tell that Ianna Jacobs and her crew hadn’t gone for the kill earlier, either. Besides, it had been like this in both of her lives, and she wanted to find out what Ianna’s ultimate goal was.

On the way back, Caleb Carter recounted what they had been through over the past few days. "We had originally made foolproof preparations, and we did indeed find supplies. However, on our way back, our Space Superpower User suddenly disappeared..." Caleb Carter said with a frown. Immediately after that, they were attacked by a horde of zombies. They barely managed to fight and flee their way out of that horde, only to run straight into that Water Element Zombie.

"Our vehicles were destroyed, and we were all already suffering from hypothermia. That Water Element Zombie killed quite a few of our people." It was only after sacrificing several teammates that Caleb Carter managed to use a ploy to seal the Water Element Zombie inside the tunnel. However, he hadn’t expected the end of the tunnel to be a dead end, where several zombie cows were waiting for them. It was an absolute stroke of luck that they managed to hide in a recessed dirt cave beneath the cliff. But with no supplies or water on them, and lacking even enough winter clothing, the already injured group could only hole up there temporarily. If Caleb Carter hadn’t used Gold Acupuncture to seal some of their acupoints, they never would have survived these three days.

Listening to Caleb Carter’s recount, everyone in the car fell silent.

"It would’ve been fine in the past, but in this damn weather, not having a backup vehicle is simply too dangerous!" Warren Ramsey broke the silence. Moreover, Caleb Carter’s group had been remarkably unlucky with their encounters.

"Did the Space Superpower User leave on his own?" Nina Jacobs asked. There were indeed some Space Superpower Users whose greed led them to run off with their team’s supplies, but she figured they absolutely wouldn’t do so outside the base in such extreme cold.

Caleb Carter shook his head and said, "Impossible. Setting aside the fact that he’s someone I trust, before leaving the base this time, he took out all the supplies from his spatial storage and left them at the base. He only kept a few backup vehicles and the necessities we needed." They hadn’t found that many supplies on this run either, so there was no way their Space Superpower User would abscond with the loot.

"Then before he disappeared, did you run into anyone else?" Nina Jacobs pressed.

Caleb Carter nodded in response. "We did. We bumped into a few people asking for directions. They weren’t from the base, and they wanted to know how to get there." And not long after those people left, right after their vehicles suddenly broke down, their accompanying Space Superpower User went missing.
